It actually wasn't that bad. It's one extra step (the parcelmotel business) over the normal order process. Although there is a chance they will just cancel it on you. But if it works, it works.

Can anyone just quickly summarise what the steps are for ordering? Sorry but I just don't have the time to read through the thread.

Maybe the summary process can be added to the OP with a note in the thread title?

Thanks folks, really appreciate it. My HTC desire just decides to turn off randomly these days, how come these things break down so quickly  :pac:

Oh how I LOVE Parcel Motel...they never let me down :D

Phone arrived in Belfast at 11:00, in my Dublin Motel at 20:30.

    Happy days !

The Desire model is at least 3 years old... I wouldn't say it happens that quickly...

My HTC desire is being replaced by an incoming nexus 4 too :-)

I have my phone for about that long. The thing is I wouldn't be looking for a new phone if it didn't just switch off after 5 mins of use, browsing the internet is impossible! And when I use it for a sat nav in my car, I have to keep the cool air on (fixed to the air inflow) so it doesn't turn off

I don't know, it just seems acceptable that electronic goods like this can just get a "yellow light of death" and "ah well, shure I'll just buy a new one".

Functionally (apart from that one major issue), the desire does all I need of it. Anyway, I'm starting to sound old and it's a discussion for a whole other thread. Maybe I've been spoiled by Nokia :D

    Success!

Fair play to Parcel Motel. Will definitely be using them again.

Oh yes parcel ready for collection. ...well done parcelmotel

Ok, I think I have figured this out:

    1. Set up a google wallet account and add the parcel motel NI address (with your name and parcel motel ID)?

    2. Order the phone through the play store but using tunnel bear to appear you are in the UK. Ship to the parcelmotel address? Can this be done using a plug in or through an app on my android? Does parcel motel charge a fee? If so, how much?

    3. Sacrifice your first born son to the blood lord vladimir. Will a daughter also work here?

    4. Somehow collect your nexus 4 and marvel at how quickly the shinyness erodes your grief?

    5. Come back to this thread to gloat.

collected mine about an hour ago....worth the long wait :D now to get a micro sim...

I did a hack job on my sim with a knife and a scissors, but i had an unused micro-sim as a template. No problems so far even though it was a bit crooked.

Collected mine this morning and got my micro sim. I don't think today is going to be my most productive day :D

Side-note: Google got it bang-on with their estimated delivery date for me.

Can anyone confirm the above as the actual ordering process?

keith, the info is all over this thread.
you would have answered all those questions in the time it took to write steps 1-5 in your post :D

    1. go to the Parcel Motel website and open an a\c. all the details re charges are clearly explained there
    2. set up google play a\c with your real address (same as your Credit Card billing address etc) I changed my PO box to be the UK parcel motel one.
    3. Use tunnelbear or similar to login to google UK play store and order the device. Billing address is your home address (but with UK PO box) and delivery address is your full Parcel Motel UK address.

    Easy.

This worked for me, but others have had issues.

Yeah thats roughly it, use the tunnelbear VPN to access the uk play store. Thing is though chances are the first time you try to order something it will be cancelled and then you will have to confirm your account details by sending them a scan of your passport and statement from whatever card you used. I think this happens because the delivery address you use (Parcel Motel) is different to your debit/credit card address.

Although having said this I remember some people reporting that they got the bank to change their address on the card and still got their order cancelled and account frozen. Also some people ordered fine without getting cancelled. We spent ages on this thread trying to figure out what way the system worked but we couldn't establish a pattern at all.

Your best bet is to try and order something small from the Google UK Play store so you can get the account issues out of the way before the phone comes back on sale. Don't think Nexus 4 bumpers are in stock though so not sure what else you could order?

Thanks the thing though fiacha, the info is ALL over the place. I spent an hour pouring through the thread last night and even then, I wasn't sure of the process. :o

That's interesting. I could try ordering another phone that they actually have :D

Same here, looks like we all got on the same batch. Got the PM message last night that it was there. I haven't gone to get it yet, if I did I'd end up playing with it all day and not get anything done.
Some questions around the ordering process, firstly their estimated delivery was dead on for me (6-7 weeks from the start of December).
Changed address to parcelmotel and ordered using TunnelBear.
First order cancelled, account frozen. Scanned passport and bank statement. Everything unlocked. Second order went through, phone is waiting in Dolphins barn.

On a side note, my 3 year old Galaxy S1 running 4.2.1 has never been zippier and easier to use. It's making it difficult to justify this expensive toy!

Cheap by new smartphone standards though. You'd be hard pressed to get one of the 5" high end phones that it seems all the smartphone manufacturers are releasing this year for under €600

Yeah price is the main reason I'm going for this phone. It's got great specs and reviews and I did need a replacement, or so I thought. I would love if they'd go down the improvement rather than power up route. How about a phone with the power of the S1 but using cheaper components, lower powered chip and a much longer battery life?

I wonder is it possible to put a sticky on the start of this thread detailing the process for ordering the Nexus 4 & 10. It seems a lot a people have problems finding this info even though it has been answered about 100 times on the thread.

Good idea, the problem is specific parts of the process are discussed in fragmented parts of the thread. Even if you search the thread by most thanked, you still don't get a post containing the end to end process.

Other things that generate confusion is that terms like google play and google wallet are used interchangeably when they are not the same thing.

All that needs to be done is the OP edited with the two or three steps involved and thread title amended with ***See Post 1 for complete process***

if someone can point me in the direction of the specific instructions for ordering via parcelmotel i'll add it to the first page or perhaps a sticky

The above explains how I ordered successfully twice, other people have used slightly different methods.

You might want to remove that picture which shows your IMEI number.

Have to agree, parcel motel were very slick. Never mind the free forwarding from the UK, just being able to collect it and not have to be at home was very handy.

Going from an s1 to the n4 is interesting. It's gigantic but amazingly fast. I mean everything is instant. but I can't reach the top of the screen easily with my thumb, which is annoying for notifications.

It also got amazingly hot after I took two 360 pictures earlier. But it's a great phone for the price!

Yea, Parcel motel is great. First time using it this morning. great service. Finally got my hands on the n4 too. Coming from the SE Play so a Big difference. God that was a crap phone in comparison. This thing is so quick
