If you're interested in buying a car but it has no tax- what can you do? I presume you can't take it for a test drive?
Chance of being stopped would be slim enough, and the only risks to you are a possible €60 (or is it €80 now?) fine (no penalty points) and being stranded at the side of the road if the car is seized for tax being 2+ months out of date.

Much more serious penalty if driving a car with no NCT - it's not a fixed notice penalty, so if prosecuted and convicted you get 5 points and a fine up to €1500. There was talk of reducing the number of points for this offence, but I'm not sure if it was followed through.

I don't know what it is about Tipp, but we have an abundance of these around! Least comfortable car I've ever sat in. Feels like your sitting in a moving(barely) rock!

I was thinking the same - too nice a pic, even if tiny.

Now there's an outing for someone in Dublin, respond to the ad, go to the seller and give us a picture of the real car.

    This too shall pass.

It is insane how cheap they are going for these days. They'd still be a superior car than most other newer rivals.

If ye do requests, I'm after an estate that i'll need for 8 months. Auto would be nice but not a must...

This looks like fairly good value and I like to see a car for sale with some petrol in it instead of the fuel gauge below empty  (i'm weird like that:D)
Also with the promise of fairly good tyres the owner might be somewhat interested in cars so it might have been looked after.

Would you travel (from the Wesht :)) - and haggle?

How much are you prepared to spend?

How much are you prepared to lose after 8 months?

    Petrol or diesel, or either?

Max engine size? (motor tax considerations....)

How important (or not) is auto?

Why do you want an estate? (family size, or load carrying etc)

    Would you consider an MPV?

    . - I'm in Dublin regularly.

How much are you prepared to spend? - Less than 1500

How much are you prepared to lose after 8 months? - Very little, ideally bag a bargain I can sell around the same price

Petrol or diesel, or either? - Doesn't matter

Max engine size? (motor tax considerations....). - less than 2.4, but small engine would be grand.

How important (or not) is auto? - Not important at all but I like it.

Why do you want an estate? (family size, or load carrying etc). - Dog and need to keep rear seats clean for passengers

Would you consider an MPV? - Not really, too young!

Always liked the Laguna estate. And she has the Xenon lights, the 17" alloys, sunroof, 6 speed gearbox, the lot. Don't have bloody €1500 though!:(

Anyone want to buy my Astra?! :o

    €899 ONO - Renault Laguna 1.6 2003 - 04/13 NCT - 107kms

I'll be giving this lad a ring tomorrow and if it sounds right heading down on Friday to part with some cash. Anything to look out for on these?

Also, what's that website that you can check NCT's again?

Believe it or not, I worked in a Renault garage for a while as a service adviser and I think for the money asked and mileage it's a gamble worth taking.

Hopefully at worst I can get it a bit cheaper than the 899 and run it for a year or two without spending a fortune. Provided she doesn't need any window regs or modules it should keep me going a while. Even if I have to scrap it then it's still cheap motoring.
