I'm just hoping he's playing his cards close to his chest.

If we did get Cavani, would it be on a par with Bergkamp signing for us?

He's interested in Cavani in the same way he's interested in Falcao.

If Napoli or Athletic rang up Arsene and said 'Arsene, would you be interested in Cavani/Falcao for £5m?' Arsene would say 'I am very interested. Subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms, I will sign him'.

Thats how interested Arsene is, and how likely we are to get Cavani.

Having an interest in a player doesnt cost anything.

Nor does pessimism. Still very boring to read though.

If we were truly in for Cavani then AW would have denied any interest in him. Not a hope we are going to sign him.

Hopefully though this may be a smokescreen for another massive deal going on behind closed doors?

I watched all of last nights game V Swansea.. at first I was getting frustrated by the usual looking for the perfect goal etc .. and then I just lowered my standards and thought these arent great players, its not a great team , Wenger isnt a great manager and I watched it like as if it was a mid-table team trying to beat another mid-table team.

After that I enjoyed it and thought the team payed great and showed loads of spirit .

Except Wenger is a great manager, albeit one who has lost his way somewhat in the last four years

Apologies to everybody but Cavani has a release clause of 69 million euro so well over this 30 million sterling being bandied about. We are financially sound, still have not even made a dent on the Lavezzi money, realistic challengers for Lo Scudetto and Edi has another 3 years left on this current contract. This really is just paper fluff

Anyone thinking that Arsenal will buy a player like Cavani should look out the window and see if there are people wearing white coats approaching.

19 goals from Podolski and Oli so far as RVP's replacements. Not bad gents. Keep up the good work

    What strengths are these?

He only scored one headed goal in France last season.

If he was a better convertor of chances, we wouldn't be worrying about our style of play.

He had two good chances last night, the first was in the first ten minutes when he shot into the side netting and should have done much better.

The second was a lovely touch to him from Jack (I think) that instead of putting the laces through or bursting forward with it, he looked around, and delayed, and was intercepted.

Against City, he had a good header that he blazed over the bar.

He's a reasonable striker, no more, no less. He's probably about the level of Sturridge, TBH.

Nobody's calling him the greatest of all time.

Giroud has gotten a lot of stick from people, even though its his first season with a new club and in a new league.

Just look at some of his assist's this season. The pass to Podolski,Gibbs, wilshere they are great touches from a big fella.

Not to mention his ability in the air. Give it time and he will be great.

And all those shots he missed lat night where on his right foot... He's left footed :pac:

He's just tweeted that the assist last night makes it 9 so far for the season. 9 goals and 9 assists is a very decent return, half way through his first season.

I think he's a very good player, needs a run of games. His finishing will improve with a few games in a row. He's more useful up front than Wally.

As far as I know Cavani signed a new 5 year contract last summer and it has a €60million release clause.

In saying all that release clauses are often inserted and don't always have to be met if the selling club is looking to do business.

I don't think its gonna happen but the release clause would be the least of my worries. They're usually far higher than the price players go for in Italy/Spain.

Mascherano has a release clause of over 100 million :)
