If this 30Mill bid is true, then what position would we be strengthening?.

Id say it's either a Winger or Striker.

Edit: Also what good is a 30Mill bid, if we won't pay high wages. Because any player valued at that will be over a 100k

I'd hope its a striker for that money. We have loads of options for attacking mid, the wings are passable, defensive mid wouldnt be a bad shout either. Goalkeeper is fine and defence is mostly ok, cover is really whats needed there.

    In order:
    Striker
    Defensive minded midfielder
    Winger (ideally both sides)
    Left back

Following on what sounded and looked like a well deserved victory( I have only seen the highlights thus far) and speaking as a admirer ( I have only begun supporting Arsenal this year properly, before that I hadn't followed football since the days of Man Utd around 1999 -2002, I always followed the player more than the team, and I figure I was not a true fan in doing so.) it feels like your team may be coming to some turning point. In the team, you have a talented keeper, a testy defence no doubht, but potential to strengthen, as well as an exciting and varying midfield. You have a concise balance, of youth and experience, as well as some that are willing to fight for your team to the last breath, and then following on from that you have a prospective forward line, who with just that extra oomph and time to pair up and mould together with the rest of the midfield, could fly high.

The football you produce can be exhilirating and free flowing and besides missed opportunities such as tonight it seems that its just a case of everything falling into their right place. Has Wenger found a more succesful formation that can challenge to the very top? Podolski and Giroud are exciting prospects and the only worrying thing is the playing players out of position.

Does Wenger feel the insatiable need to cater to Walcott's needs as he waits for him to sign a contract. Will he continue to be bound by Walcott as his desires fail to match his pre-supposed capabilities as a striker, or is he simply pleasing him for now, as he seeks committal. If Walcott continues to be a flash in the pan when in front of goal as a forward, and lacks the neccesary consistency, then will Wenger do what is right, not for him, but tfor the team, and for that success of that team? I hope he gets the balance right, because if Walcott continues to fall below expectations at the behest of other options, i.e Podolski, then that's a problem. I hope it works itself out in the end, either way, hope it's onwards and upwards from here. Anyway the banter is great in the superthread, keep it up, entertaining as always. Btw apologies if any of the above is bollocks, just imo.

    That's €36m

    Surely that would tempt Napoli.

His buyout clause is €63 mil. Which recently some guy from the club more or less said they'd take as the clubs who'd offer it would be big & Cavani would want to go to them

Also consider Arshavin could be used as a make-weight for a big deal and we could literally be bidding for any of the available top top super quality players.

Arshavin wouldn't add a lot of value, he's only got 6 months on his contract + been poor most of the time he's been at arsenal, a lot of club's probably wouldn't take him & story is he want's to stay in London

one that might, somewhere you'd think he'd go to as well is Zenit, which would mean Hulk

It might be Hulk, he was supposed to be unhappy in Russia

    ..............................................................................................................................
Who it could be apart from those already mentioned

    Higuain
    Mario Gomez
    Schweinsteiger
    Andre Schurrle
    Alexis Sanchez

Just home now, went out at 85 minutes, absolutely no surprise when I got to my mates and they said Wilshere had scored. Incredible player and I've no doubt after tonight that he should be our number 10, Cazorla on the winger and Jack at CAM suits us so much better and allows us to play a big lad in CM, like Diaby or Coquelin (who was great tonight).
Was shocked a few weeks ago when posters were questioning Jack's consistency, hes been very good in pretty much all the games hes played in, our best player in all but 1 or 2, the only difference tonight was that he scored a goal.

We need to rest him. cant burn him out! i want to give Ashavin some play time at CAM and see what its like

I wouldn't bother, he is going in 6 months, he won't be staying if jack needs a rest then we need to look at other options maybe Gnarby.

    30M isn't enough for Cavani.
Goetze would be mad to leave Dortmund for us.

If a 30M bid is true it's an interesting show of intent. Unless of course it's Arsenes old trick of bidding for a player we'll never get at that price so he can say we tried.

    I want Isqo.

    Or Llorente.

    That is all.

In actual football related news, I thiught Gibbs was excellent last night, ansd was also excellent in the drawn game. He might be turning into the player we hoped he would.

Walcott was abysmal last night, as was Giroud.

By the way, I can feel a win at the Bridge at the weekend.

There's a reason Chelsea are so bad there. Hopefully we can exploit. We would then be 5 points off Chelsea in third, with a game in hand.

If we lose, third place is gone. Its a real 6 pointer.

When you factor in Spuds most likely dropping points at Old Trafford too its a pretty big game all round.

Rosicky and Arteta not fit according to sky, wouldn't mind seeing us lining up the same as last night again.

Whats the deal with Rosicky? Guess that explains why we barely saw him when he was "fit"

Podolski will surely play seeing as he was rested yesterday. Was gonna suggest dropping Walcott but just remembered his record is quite good against Chelsea.

Just seeing the news from the Press Conference now. Bit more positive from Wenger with regards to Walcott's contract and potential signings.

I want the same team as last night but with Podolski up front.

Hows young Frimpong doing these days?

I like him, I hope he suceeds.

The Spuds game is at the Lane, so its an away banker. Safest bets in the Premier League are always United away to Villa and Spurs. Our game is massive. Chelsea have been dropping points against the smaller teams at home, so we've a great chance :pac:

Just back from a six week loan spell at Charlton. Made six appearances. Back training with Arsenal. Wenger might send him out on loan again or maybe keep him.

Ramsey strikes me as a man who could do with a loan to the likes of QPR.

Apparently, Afobe is not doing so well with Bolton.

And has anoyone see Myachi and Joel Campbell play recently?

Apparently the interest in Cavani is solid.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/17/arsene-wenger-arsenal-edinson-cavani
Arsène Wenger has confirmed his interest in the Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, but has denied submitting a bid to Crystal Palace for their in-demand winger Wilfried Zaha.

Wenger, asked about speculation linking Arsenal with Napoli's Cavani, who has scored 16 Serie A goals this season, said: "Cavani is a player that I like. What is for sure is that he costs a lot of money."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,579 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

Cavani is a player every manager in the world would like in their team I'm sure. Nothing in that Wenger quote expresses any intent to sign him.

What's happened there is a journo at the press conference has just tried to come up with players who they think might cost around 30M, landed on Cavani, and asked Wenger about it.

I'm just hoping he's playing his cards close to his chest.

If we did get Cavani, would it be on a par with Bergkamp signing for us?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,579 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

If we sign Cavani I'll change my avatar to Gareth Bale for a month.

Bookies have us as favourites at 5/2 to sign him before Feb 1st.

I know it's baloney, but it would be bloody nice!

    :D
