summary after 2 months of using lycamobile:

    bargain prices
    costumer service sux
data connection not useful for voip calls/skype etc or watchin youtube/stream music etc because of poor speed (few times tested with speedtest and max i received was 0.4Mb, Dublin area)..enough for web browsing, navigation etc tho..
calls voice quality is ok, not havin any of those problems posted above..
international SMS are shorter than regular ones: i think its about 60 characters only.. so if u typing 'normal' length SMS u pay twice...

buyin phone with dual sim so i can use lycamobile for landlines abroad and for streamin gna stay with 3...

overall u get cheap stuff but the quality is better than expected..

Just off the phone with customer services too regarding picture messages. I was also told that they do not support picture messaging . Maybe we got the same dumbass.

Anyone know of a way around this through an app or whatever?

plenty of chat apps support pic sending (even stupid skype does it).. or share it on google plus for example (email last option)..

I use it to stream spotify radio all the time and it's fine even when driving through rural areas. There might be a little pause between some songs and a few times its played the same song twice in a row but it works well most of the time.

Yeah I think dual sim makes a lot of sense with Lyca. Handy to be able to call Irish landlines for 3c a min. and get free texts.

Are the double top ups still in effect for January? Quite obviously I'd like to pay €5 and get the €9 bundle! I checked the website but unsurprisingly it hasn't been updated today.

Well in December, it was'nt updated till the 5th of the month, so I'd expect similar this month.

Still no point in me switching until they make this a long term offer.

They do not do long-term offers. Thats their business model. They have recently updated their Irish website and it is now almost identical to to the UK one, except their UK offers are better than here.

.... dead right... I'm not switching to Lycamobile until they give me a new Samsung Galaxy S3, an expenses paid holiday in the Bahamas every year for life and the winning Lotto numbers. :D

Is it the general opinion that Lyca offer overall the best deal?

I'd be after the €20 and double up to get the €29 package with the €11 left over.

I am looking at the prospect of calling landlines and calling the UK etc.

3c a minute is a good deal but is there a better option from o2 or similar.

As for dual sim phones - is there much of a choice?

My issue would be living on the border and being in the UK as in Newry so roaming but am unsure as to whether I would be charged for this.

I understand some co's like vodafone do not charge roaming on one of their packages.

Lyca offer 1c/min to UK landlines. Not sure where the 3c/min is coming from?

Also some or all NI (UK) landline numbers can be called via the 048 prefix and thus classed as national calls and presumably included in the landline mins bundle?

    Thanks TM.

The 3c was the Irish landline price. :)

Ah - OK. But if you buy the €29 bundle then you have "unlimited" landline calls included anyway as part of your any mobile/landline network calls 10000 mins allowance). And NI landlines called through 048 may (should?) also be included.

    Hope this helps.

About the roaming, you might get charged to receive calls if your mobile connects to a UK network. Although I think O2 Ireland don't charge to receive calls in the North while on O2 UK (Lycamobile is on O2 network). I don't think I was charged to receive calls, or charged extra to make calls, while roaming in Newry on Tesco Mobile UK using a Tesco Mobile Ireland SIM (also on O2). That might have changed though, or be different for Lycamobile.

Thanks lads that is a great help.

I kinda knew it was unlimited but I saw a price for Irish landline of 3c which threw me.

I think I might give this a whirl - seems well worth it to be honest.

Easy enough to port ones numbers and if one is unhappy you can always port back etc?

    Thanks again! :)

If you do port over, it'd be handy to know if Lycamobile Ireland charge for roaming in the North on Lycamobile UK. If you had the time to post back it would be great.

I am using a windows phone and unable to select the bundle after entering *139*35000#. I tried customer service who I thought would just put me onto the €29 bundle but they just said they would pass the issue on to their technical team and wait 24 hours.

Have you got a spare phone that you could stick the sim into just to activate the bundle and then switch back?

have an old Sony ericson w800 and it would not send to confirm bundle selection.

Considering making the switch but the stories of all kinds of borked service in this thread have me leaning against it and eating the extra cost elsewhere for peace-of-mind.

Just ported to Lyca today from Tesco.

Port took 4 days so not very fast at all. CS is in India again not great.

Gone for the 9 euro bundle so I can see how good it is.

These special offers are like the ones the AA have limited time offers that never actually end.

I moved as well few months ago from tesco to lyca but thinking to go back to tesco.

    Lycamobile:
    -bad coverage
-not all texts are delivered (rang CS, they fixed few numbers but have enough to call them again with same problem but different numbers)
-unable to call premium numbers (1800....free phone, 1850....i.e. M50 recovery, 1890....doctor and other )
-never got answer to my two emails to CS

But as well few good things:
-9GB of internet quite fast, enough for youtube, online radio, even connected mobile to netbook
    -unlimited texts
-9€ for 150min what is enough
-cheeeeeep international calls (half price then tesco to call mobiles abroad)

I've been with Vodafone / eircell since I first got a phone. Just as a payg. Their data charges and that flaming captcha is the final straw so am switching.

Can't decide between Tesco or Lyca. Lyca is better value but if it can't be relied on, it's a deal breaker. Anyone use Lyca and not found any issues? I

I've been with Lyca for the last few months with little or no problems.

However, recently a couple of people have had trouble calling me from a landline. I tried to call my mobile from my house phone last night, and sure enough, I got an engaged tone.

Anyone else having this problem ?

I switched on 17th of December and got the €9 bundle.
On the 17th Jan I got a text saying I had insufficient balance in my account to apply the bundle (i.e. €1), however I'm still able to ring/text and browse the net :p

For some reason though texts don't seem go through properly to some people who don't have smart phones, this has been happening before the 17th too.

Streaming is impossible even if left buffering it seems to stop after maybe 10-15 seconds but it downloads alright without stopping, albeit at only about 150-200kb/s max.

The 150mins aren't really mins there more 150 calls of <1min. E.g. If you have say 120mins left, make a call, get voicemail or even just stay on it for 5 secs, when you get off the call you get a pop up saying 119mins remaining.

The thing I like most apart from the price is that the reception and internet work in parts of West Cork which Meteor used never do.

Has anyone else gone past their first month and still able to use the mins/text/data, if so how long did it last or has it been since the month was up?
