I am not your bud in any shape or form
Cheer up mate, we're all friends here.

    What happened with Sandancer?

All I read was that it was from some Spanish interview, no idea where it came from and who translated it.

Weird though that he first says it's not an issue and then comes out with that ****e.

Or maybe Sandaza is in the huff because young boys are getting picked in front of him. I don't believe if it was said it was anyone officially connected with the club

Why should the reason he breaks his silence be more important than what he's actually saying? When is the last time a player expressed their religious beliefs publicly whilst on the job at Rangers or representing the club in an official capacity that wasnt protestant?

Well I presume he'll either retract the comments or the club will sue the paper in which the lies appeared?

Or maybe... just maybe... there'll be an admission that Sevco have the same ridiculous narrow minded festering sectarian bigotry that Rangers had.

Shota Arveladze I believe. Wasn't he booed at Windsor Park for blessing himself the Russian Orthodox way which is very similar to the Catholic way of blessing yourself.

Seeing as almost every club they have played has come back with complaints about their fans, the obvious yet sad conclusion is that they have not taken this opportunity for a fresh start. Maybe in the mind of some fans, behaving differently would have come too close to recognising said fresh start.

You mean Arveladze, who was booed when playing for Georgia in Dublin ?
Behaviour which was described by the FAI's own president as “racist but also bigoted and sectarian” ?

The reason why players at Rangers don't tend to bless themselves is because nobody cares.
Maybe some of them don't do it because they feel it might bring more problems than it's worth, but that is their own choice.
People like Novo, Bougherra, Amuroso,... made no secret of their religion and guess what: Nobody cared if they were Christian, Muslim, Jew or Jedi.

I remember when we played ManU and on their message boards people were claiming that the likes of Hernandez would be abused because he blesses himself before the game.
Of course nothing like that happened.

But don't let that stop the usual suspects though (rather talk about that than your own fans kicking the living daylight out of each other in Dundee I'd guess).

Arveladze was booed because he was a Rangers player. Ireland games are basically poor man's Celtic games at the end of the day. To suggest it was racism is beyond laughable and the fact the FAI have come out with such tripe is hardly a surprise.

Instead Gibson and O'Shea were booed, despite never having played for Celtic.

    Why was that?

Using John "33rd team at the world cup is a reasonable request" Delaney as a defence to any argument should result in a public flogging.

The bolded doesnt make sense. Players bless themselves as part of a belief or a ritual pre/post/during games. No it shouldnt matter at all but it seems to be a sticking point at Rangers. Why are employees being reminded of this if its not a problem???

The ye have yer own problems so dont criticise us for ours seems to be the only defence ye have when it comes to discussing anything that could be deemed negative about yer club. Nothing new there. Drunk people fighting, shock horror! They'll get their comeuppance in due course.

Somehow I'm not surprised you decide to show up now in this thread Dempsey.

Good to see that some bad translating from a Spanish article is taken as gospel though.

    Why was that?

    Were they ****.

Probably his exact thoughts when/if he was told what he claims by whoever it was

@broxi, that maybe true, but his claims are strikingly similar to a pattern prevelent at ibrox throughout most of its existence

Irrespective of whether it was true or not, it was probably good advice given the hassle anyone blessing themselves at ibrox would be likely to endure

if its true its probably one of the more disgusting acts of intolerance i have seen in a while, and if it was my club i would be ashamed to have those attitudes ingrained in my club in the 21st century

I was banned for a while and I wasnt online much during christmas, i.e. better things to be doing. If you have a problem with me posting my opinion in this thread, take it up with the mods tbh. But until then, my opinion is as valid as anyone elses and you can clutch to the "bad translation" ****e with everyone else but it wont wash with me. You have a habit of desperately deflecting criticism away from your club and head burying so Im not expecting a reasonable response from you.

They certainly were, because I watched the game with a few United fans who had to ask me did either start off at our youth team or something to warrant it.

Or maybe, and bear with me here... ManU players in general were booed ?

It's been known to happen here and there, they're not exactly the most popular club around.

But hey, if you saw the game I totally believe that, must be my hearing which is bad since I can't recall any of it.

And for Dempsey: You don't do irony very well.

jelle maybe there IS an issue if you have to make lame excuses all the time

You say that but its racist for Irish (i.e. a significant number of Celtic fans live) to boo Rangers players on international duty?? Unreal!

Once again, you dont understand what irony means! Im not explaining it again for you!

It's not exactly a lame excuse when it's known to happen.

There is nothing to indicate that O'Shea and Gibson were booed for any other reason than playing for ManU, but don't let that get in the way of a good old fashioned Rangers bashing.

    And Dempsey:

Those were the words of your own FAI president.

No wonder you got banned, since you seem hell-bent on **** stirring every time you show your face in this thread.

They were, and Gibson/O'Shea were singled out in particularly, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered raising the point.

I suppose you could fabricate an excuse for the Gibson bit. Lets say that a lot of Rangers fans are Northern Ireland fans, and that Gibson chose ROI ahead of NI. Cool. What about O'Shea? Confrontational? Firey? Aggressive? Brings it on himself? Come on, one of these old excuses must work...!

The anti-Irish racism at Ibrox is usually swept under the rug as "anti Celtic" and football banter. Gets a bit awkward when the player has nothing to do with Celtic though :(

    You're talking ****, again.

Not a single ManU player was 'singled out', they were all booed at one point in the game.

    edit: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/9218239.stm

    Gibson didn't even play, idiot.

I wasnt banned for **** stirring nor infracted at anytime for trolling.

John Delaney is an idiot, go look up any thread on any irish football forum you can find.

According to you, its ok for irish people to boo ManU players because they are probably ABU's etc but racist etc to boo Rangers players because....what??

Piss off to the Celtic thread, or are you not wanted there either ?

Oh, so if it's an FAI president saying that he's an idiot, but some translated article from an unknown source is true.

Gotcha, good to see you still haven't changed.

Possibly, but when it's branded as bigoted then I'd assume it's more than that.

But that's low, using my own words against me...

    :P

When it is confirmed as a statement from Sandaza, that he was told not to bless himself, you'll be gone doing a head burying exercise. I wont see you until February! Its not like he's the 1st Rangers player to say this, is he?

Actually, I remember a RTE commentator saying similar about a misread substitution involving Peter Lovenkrands at Lansdowne. George Hamiltons comments were idiotic that night aswell.

Irish People Booing Rangers Players = Racists

Great rule of thumb considering what you just said about Man United players!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,666 ✭✭✭blahfckingblah

just showing you how feeble your excuse was.. back on point do you not think that its wrong that ibrox has a history tainted with institutionalised sectarianism and is still showing signs of anti catholic bigotry

Rangers are religious bigots according to a poorly translated Sandaza interview?
Jelle posts pictorial evidence of Sandaza blessing himself as he enters the field of play.
This of course it entirely ignored, because Rangers booed a couple of Man Utd players.
Jelle points out that one of these Man Utd players didn't even appear for Man Utd that day - despite supposedly anecdotal evidence of it happening.
    This is completely ignored.

    Anyone spot a theme here?
