    Do they offer good protection?

I find the WP7 keyboard to be excellent. It did take me a little time to adjust when I switched from iOS, but now I am much much quicker with it.

I do find that it's terrible for text speak though. It's actually much quicker and easier to use full words.

Also, I find it's great using it two-thumbed, but if I try just one-thumbed it's not as good. It is worse than iOS for one handed typing I think.

    You quoted an example????

You didn't give an example there where T9 is quicker than QWERTY?

As far as the Angry Birds question goes, definitely choose Star Wars. Its like a mixture of Space and Original, with added powers & the like.

I can see why someone coming from a T9 phone would say its faster than QWERTY, its all about what your used to.

For example, when I went from Android to WP7, it took me a long time to get used to the keyboard change. Now that I have gotten used to it, I can barely type properly on my Android Tablet.

Personally, I can never see myself going back to a T9 layout, mostly because I find skeuomorphism tacky.

The sides of the phone are still exposed, So unless it doesn't land on it's side or corners it will be protected quite well. Doesn't add much bulk to the phone also.

In my experience, it depends on the policy of the network. Some require 3 repairs before a refund and some will just keep trying to fix it till you kick up a huge fuss.

First one was under the 30 day term.. so is this one. I am going back Tuesday and asking for a refund,

    How about one handed operation?

Just to note, I've had a problem where I'd said something was faulty vs I'm just returning it, under the allotted period. The latter is usually accepted no questions. They go through a mad hatter process if they go via the repair route.

You mean just say I am not happy with it as it is my second one not working correctly and I do not want another?

Maybe wait till they've done the return to tell them its faulty ;)

Well I have been in to the guy in the store 3 times for him to get mms working and he has failed. Last thing he tried was a new sim card in case the other one was faulty. Must go back to him Tuesday. Might just say I am not happy with it and am returning it?

Well thats kinda different. I guess so.

It wouldn't make it any quicker. I can't think of any example where you can make less taps on a T9 keyboard to complete a sentance than on a qwerty keyboard.

I would have always thought that the windows phone 7 keyboard was Jud as good or better. Though then again its a matter of getting used to it. I still find android keyboards to be the worst though after around 3 months with the S3 I think I'm finally getting used to it and the screen is keeping up with the fingers. Screen size makes a huge difference as it changes the key placement.

Are you with O2 by any chance? I'm not really sure what's going on but it seems like a lot of O2 people have had MMS problems with these phones.

It's odd because it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. I look at a few other Lumia specific forums (I have a 710) and there doesn't seem to be any issues for most users. But for some reason, since the price drop, there has been a load of O2 users on boards who have had constant MMS issues.

It seems to be something particular to O2 Irelands network and the Lumia 800. I'd guess it could be some issue with the APN configuration, and could possibly be fixed if O2 talked to Nokia and did some jiggery-pokery through the network settings app.

I am with O2 and had the same MMS problems with the phone. Nobody could sort the issue. The guys in the shop downloaded the Network App, manually entered settings, it was with Fonemenders for three weeks and they tried loads of solutions from Nokia to no avail. Eventually changed the phone for HTC. It was my second Lumia 800 with O2, the first one had the same problem....

That's a bit harsh. Who mentioned a "quicker" method? Perhaps ryan... doesn't want a "quicker" method, just a more error-free method for text imput?

For QWERTY text input, I definitely think that it is certainly more difficult to type on the 800 than the iPhone 4S (for example). I don't know why, but I have a far higher error rate when using the 800. The 4S just seems to always get it right. I guess it's a combination of things, i.e. the screen (sensitivity, tolerance etc), the keyboard map sizes (keys are smaller on the 800 I think), the software programming (prediction at al.).

My fingers are the same regardless of the phone. It's quite frustrating to be honest. When I happen to be typing on a 4S I realise how cumbersome the 800 is. So that falls into the category of a "chore" for me...

And I don't necessarily agree that one is more likely to have more errors using ABC text input methods. Why do you think people will have more errors? And are you saying that that is the reason it's not used any more?

And as far as Angry Birds goes, it's Star Wars all the way. Fab array of weapons and cool things to do. Great novelty value!

    Ro

I agree with this, had an iPhone 3GS before this and even though the Lumia has same size screen or slightly bigger, typing was more accurate on the iPhone. It seems that even to hit small links on the Internet I have to overshoot my touching very slightly upwards and to the left of where I would have pressed on the iPhone. Had the Lumia 800 for 6 months at this stage so really should be used to the keyboard by now. As a side note, it's still not back from repair, been nearly 2 weeks now.

If you press the volume rocker button, then tap the icon on the top right of the screen it changes from ring and vibrate, to just vibrate.

I dunno I find even in portrait mode I need two thumbs for Query, and only one for T9. For Querty I'd be slower with one hand/thumb.

I think it was your problems that made it click in my head. I know you tried everything that should work, but it just didn't. There has been a few others with similar problems too. It's a pity, they're great phones other than this.

I think that's going to be the root of your problem so. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but there does seem to be an issue with 02 users not being able to use MMS with this phone. Unless O2/Nokia can figure out what's going on I'd guess that you will have the same problems with any replacement.

I'm purely going from the posts on this thread and the other general Windows Phone 7 one though, I wonder are there any Lumia 800 users on O2 with perfectly working MMS though?

Ok I had the mms issue. I had it on my first 800 and it was replaced and now I have it on the new one.

To get around it I have discovered that, using the network settings app, you have to create a new apn. Doesn't really matter what settings you put into it. Then select it. You may get an error or lose signal etc.

Then just go back to the network settings app and reselect the original network config. Then I can send/receive mms.

I don't know why it keeps losing the ability to handle mms but at least I know how to remedy it, albeit on a temp basis.

    I am on o2.

If you are talking about individual people then yes they could be faster with one hand or two hands using T9. There's some people I know who have never used a T9 keyboard :D

Could I not hand it back under the "Sale of goods and services act 1980" ?
Not fit for the purpose it was sold?

I am trying to get an IP camera that I can view from my Nokia Lumia 800 but tried a few online demos and no success yet. No problem with the IP cameras from my PC but from the phone I get various problems like black screen where video should be or lots of text with no video as if the phone is missing a plug in or something. The speed should not be an issue as I'm testing the phone off the same wireless network as the PC is on. I think the Lumia 800 uses Explorer ver 9 for browsing whereas the PC I'm using has version 8.

Does anyone have any experience in this area?

No there is no alternative. The only way to put the phone on silent is to switch off vibration in your settings and then choose ring or silent when you hit the volume rocker. Even if you leave vibration on and you turn the volume all the way down to zero with the rocker, it will still vibrate, it doesn't go to silent.

    Not cool!

Is Flash being used at any stage along the process? 800 doesn't like Flash...
