The fact he undertook no rehabilitation treatment when he was locked up should set a lot of alarm bells ringing and should have been enough to make sure he served the full fifteen years.

The fact is we go mental when other countries use the tactics required to extract information form the likes of Larry Murphy, so 10 years in jail is all that's available. If that was 10 years of waterboarding we would know all his crimes.

Well if you tortured him enough he'd probably confess to killing Mick Collins. I wouldn't trust most gardai with a Segway let alone the power of "enhanced interrogation". After all "everyone knows" who the bad guys are.

Jesus Christ, TV3 are the MacGyver of the media world. Just like he could make a bomb from a plastic spoon and a lump of chewing gum, TV3 can make programming from nothing whatsoever. There is going to be no interview according to the Indo article, merely some knacker from TV3 running around the streets of the 'Dam looking for Larry

It's important to remember he was only ever convicted of one crime.

He served his time for it, should he not be allowed to get on with his life?

Im going to assume your a man then! And not in fear of being raped and tortured?

The very mention of Alan Murphy make me check thet all my doors are locked even in the middle of the day.

It does not work that way, sure if he engaged in treatment we would have people saying he still should not have been released early.

The reality is remission is available for all prisoners, sex offenders or not.

We cannot force rehab on anyone, and it is counter-productive too do so.

Larry Murphy is someone people are fascinated by. Why should TV3 be the ones to do an interview with him. I'm sure it will be watched by an awful lot.

He's mostly likely a serial killer, and a good one at that. Not something we have too many of in this country. If I was writing the law I'd have attempted murder treated exactly as murder to be honest. That combined with rape and I'd never let him be a free man again. However we have a light justice system here so I don't know why people are surprised he only served 10years. That's long in comparison to other cases considering he pleaded guilty and immediately admitted to the crime.

When he's an old man crippled and barely able to walk down to draw his pension will people still be shouting abuse at him? When if ever is it time to forgive?

Hopefully he will never get to that age.

I have no idea what Alan Murphy did or who he is (I assume he is related to Larry Murphy) but you should not live your life in such fear. We live in a very safe country. But if you are that worried perhaps start carrying pepper spray or something.

I wanna hear his views on the bank bailout . Itd be funny asking him what hed do If he got Brian Cowen alone in a room .
I wanna hear his views on religion . Id love to know what hed do if he got god alone in a room .
Hes stuck for cash . So hes getting paid . He left jail with 10000 that couldnt have lasted this long .
I wanna hear his views on dole scroungers . And what hed do if he got one of them alone in a room .

Most of all I wana know what he thinks about them scientologists and if he wants to take a personality test .
Knowing the way TV3 operate, they probably have a text service set up so people can text in their questions for Larry.

Yes. If he had shown one tiny shred of guilt or remorse about what he did, I might feel kinder towards him. Maybe.

I don't know if you know the details but what he did to that woman is the stuff of nightmares. If it is true that he was involved in the disappearance of the other girls, he has uncaringly put their families through hell.
When he was told of how the injured woman was suffering, he replied: "Well, she's alive isn't she?"

No one should watch this and everyone should complain to TV3 about it.

There is tabloid and then there is absolute gutter trash, and this is the latter.

He's had thousands upon thousands of tabloid pages dedicated to him since his release. Newspapers feeding on the fear of women all over the country. What TV3 are doing is no worse than that crap.

Paul Williams talking about the documentary now on NT.

He said that Larry Murphy is not on the sex offenders register because the legislation predated the crime... I mean you really would have to wonder... The civil rights crowd have made it impossible for people to call a spade a spade these days..

I still find it unbelievable that this man is free after 15 years. I know it's an extreme example, but our "justice" system sees it fair to have a man banged up right now for importing garlic, yet this man who raped and attempted to murder that poor Carlow woman is free to roam around Europe.. I wonder will any questions be asked when he inevitably murders somebody else..

it's all about viewing numbers at the end of the day, TV3 don't give a fu(k what they air as long as they get the viewers, and this programme will get the viewers even if people know it's bullsh1t

I don't think it's fair to blame this on the 'civil rights crowd', our justice system has been a joke for decades.

I wonder why TV 3 are giving this prik a voice; fuppin scumbag of a tv station so I guess they are well suited to eachother.

When a criminal scars their victim for life, the criminal deserves a similar scar on the rest of their own life.

At least tv3 don't beam their station into every house without asking and then send men around threatening you to pay them.

The man wasn't interviewed at all:
    Indo wrote:
When our documentary crew asked him for an interview he ran off. He later returned to his apartment and ignored repeated efforts to be interviewed.

No need for any more outrage people, it's ok.

Larry Murphy is the Keyser Söze of our times

Verbal: "...Nobody has ever seen him since. He becomes a myth, a spook story that criminals tell their kids at night. "Rat on your pop, and Keyser Soze Larry Murphy will get you." And no-one ever really believes."

Verbal: "Who is Keyser Soze Larry Murphy? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi Williams tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze Murphy. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone."
