257 flood warnings in the UK now. As wet as it's been here, we're lucky we escaped the worst of it.

has been raining very heavily all day here (arklow) but really lashing now and blowing a stink too. there was a lot of surface water around the town earlier so i would imagine there is some flooding now

Shambles? ORK is right on the edge of the precip band. MAybe a PROB40 RA should have been issued, but what other TAFs are wrong "around the country"?

    long-TAF: EIDW 251750Z 2518/2618 04012KT 9999 BKN015 BECMG 2518/2521 02015G25KT BECMG 2602/2605 34015KT TEMPO 2609/2618 33020G33KT

Now anyone could have looked at the radar today and seen that dub was going to get RA for most of day/evening:/night just by looking at its movement. That does not take a scientific brain. Maybe the regionals are the same. Havnt looked at there tafs ( not that interested in them ) would you like to be sitting in your A320 in a nice MUC and have a nice surprise on approach to DUB with a break u/s, so yeah a shambles and dangerous lack of interest from snn met.

Yes, Dublin's was out on the precipitation alright, although only light to moderate rain, vis always > 10km, so it wouldn't be a significant problem. Ceilings turned out near or slightly better than forecast though.

The regionals have all been fairly spot on. Waterford has been behaving as forecast

Wexford town experiencing widespread flooding. My facebook is 'flooded' with pictures and post about it. A sample of statements from local media:
Severe Flooding in Wexford town. Distillery Road closed, King Street closed, Davitt Road closed. Severe Flooding in Bing, Rosslare also. Wall after collapsing at bottom of Summerhill due to huge pressure of water, ESB enroute to kill the power in a transformer there also- so it looks like there will be powercuts shortly too.
Emergency services stretched to their limit.
The latest from AA Roadwatch.... WEXFORD... A number of roads in Wexford Town are impassable due to flooding; Kings St, Davitt Rd, South Main St, Upper John St, Old Ferrycarraig Rd and also the local roads between Wilkinstown Cross/Glynn, Murntown/Kildavin, Ardcolm/Castlebridge and Taghmon/Adamstown.

Just back from work, there's flooding around Dublin too in spots. The autumn leaves blocking the drains no doubt playing a large part. Must be some pretty large rainfall totals in the Wicklow mountains with these NE winds.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Its been raining here almost constantly in Waterford all day/night. Rain still lashing against the windows here. Absolutely miserable!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,700 ✭✭✭Mountainsandh

Yeah we're back to lashing rain up a bit higher here (co Waterford) too. All the snow has turned to mushy sleet, hoping it'll all be well thawed and not frozen in the morning.

You could be right Maq but did they get it wrong for Dublin,it hasn't stopped since early afternoon here, miserable day.
What were the rainfall predictions for the big smoke?

Looks like the models were spot on yesterday with the high amount of rainfall for Wexford.

The rainfall radars have not agreed though, I've been watching it all day and Wexford was mostly zero to light rain all day according to that. The surrounding counties have seen heavy rainfall all day so maybe it's all spilling out through Wexford hence the flooding?

Edit: for example, the UKMO radar goes back to 1800 and you can see the pattern which has been the same since the rain arrived.... ie. Wexford in the clear.
