Thanks for that. I have at the bottom of the bouquets listing a Satellite XML file, which I THINK is the list of satellites. I have tried that but still no fix I am afraid.

Using that dreamboxedit program, can I take a backup of that XML file or something and run it again.

Does that green screen on the Satfinder and it mentions a dump to a log file, mean that the system needs to be reset completely?

    Thanks v much

You might have corrupted the CrossEPG with all the messing with the bouquets, once you sort them it might sort it out. Personally, I just get a pre-made set of files (like SGTFlipFlops), he also has a great guide on how to use Dreambox Edit

Hi, tried dreamboxedit but the username and password doesn't let me past and can't get access onto the box I am afraid! :( The seller must have it locked down.

I have emailed and asked for the details, so hopefully will get that and I will sort this out.

    Thanks for your help.

can you telnet to the box? username would be root, and the password would be blank by default.

Dont hit me too hard...... but the wireless bridge wasn't picking up the wireless.... hence I wasn't connecting! :(

SOooooo forgetting the last line up there ;)
    I can get on there;

I have telnet, I have dreamboxedit, I have Vu+ control centre!

I checked the Satellite.xml and its blank, which doesn't sound correct?

I just backed up all the files which it allowed using the VU+ control center there also, so at least thats something! :)

Ok, so i am getting places now, I downloaded a new Satellites.xml and I uploaded it to the dreambox.
I now have the listing of the satellites and I have the astra 28 selected, so the tuner config is perfect.

Now, whats the next step with getting all the channels back? Do I need to do a full scan?

    Many thanks

Yup, just do a scan on the box and you should be able to pick everything up, if you edit the channels without a scan it often just has N/A for channel names, what I normally do is run a scan and then upload from Dreambox Edit, hasn't failed me yet

I let it scan last night and went to the cot, I have from what I can see the full listings back :D

Final question, I had a nice tidy channels listing setup under my favorites for any kids channels, music etc all grouped. Is there a channel listing to download or will i just group them myself?

Good few channels with number ya, is that normal?

    Thanks for all your help.

SgtFlipFlops updates are brilliant, they have the full Sky listing like Sky has it, you can even do the Sky numbering if you want. I was driven crazy with having 4 or 5 versions of the same channels and having to go through them to see which 1 worked, let someone else do all the work for you :)

I get his listings, sort them the way I want them (delete/move whatever channels I want) and add in the SaorView channels as well.

Unfortunately SgtFlipFlop retired last week so he wont be releasing any more updates.
Rats bouquets are fairy good though and you could always try the autobouquets plugin.

why dont VIX or other software manufacturer maintain their own?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,069 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

I would imagine that it'd just be way too much hassle, CrossEPG will download the details for you, you can setup the Bouquets however you want, it's all down to the personalization of it all I guess, which is usually why people get the Linux receivers.

    1. VIX is OpenSource so the lads who maintain it are basically doing it for free.
    2. There are many satellites that people in Europe use. Certainly 28.2 is the dominant one for UK and Ireland but even then everyone will want their own customisation on their lists....even to add Saorview channels.

    Never knew that:o
I dont have an epg on them either thats why I presumed they were moved and I needed to retune/scan.

BBC3 and 4 have changed frequencies, they are CBeebies in the morning, you might have to do a new scan.

I can't highlight enough how this isn't my work, this is done by someone on another board, he's ill now and had retired from the job now. The direct link to the thread on another forum with his updates is here.

To save you having to register or find the last working copy, here's a recent update that has most of the updates on it. It's a rar within zip b

Both channels still missing. What do I need to scan ? When I got the box it was all set up so haven't much idea what I should be doing.

I don't know what image you have, try system->setup and automatic scan, should pick up any changes. You could also install the autobouquet updater which will pick up changes as well.
