hi all i was turned down for respite grant because i was refused the carers grant i was told you only get them both if you are approved for carers grant, i did the two forms at different times i think a few months apart, and then got a letter stating i could not get respite grant, i was amazed thought we would get that at least, i think they are working on may and june medical reviews has anyone heard that it would be great if that is right.

Hi Smurphysutton, thanks a mill for your post.... I think we will go ahead and apply for the respite and hope for the best. Don't relish bringing another bunch of forms to the GP for completion again.... I hate all this, hard not to feel like a nuisance. I wonder if I sent in a copy of the carers form (which gives all the medical information) and complete the respite forms would that be acceptable - any ideas.
know how you feel angie about the GP and the forms but they get paid for filling in the forms.you will need to complete the respite forms fully as you dont want them looking for more information and slowing things down.you should send in any letters that you have to support your claim aswell.make sure you photocopy all documents and send it registered post also.i sent away for the companion travel pass aswell and the medical report is the same as the carers and respite so you may as well get the doctor to do the respite and the travel pass together.

yes they are working on june medical reviews now for carers
was talking to a woman that works on the respite grants and told her my story and told me what to do.you dont have to be getting the carers to get the respite and even though i am waiting on the carers i was to fill in the forms and send them in and i might qualify for 2011 aswell.she said there was a 7-8 week backlog for the respite, not near as bad as in the carers
just have to hang in there for now

Hi all new to this forum but have been following this thread, I'm now waiting 30 weeks which isn't as bad as some here but the frustrating thing for me is that my husband was claiming carer's for our daughter up until march of this year & because he was offered more hours we decided that it would be best if I claimed carers instead (I was made redundant from my job over a year ago). So we were told that we would have to reapply and just wait to see IF it would be awarded!! I was just on to the carers allowance section there & they are now on December so I def have a few more months wait ahead of me. It's just so frustrating this waiting game & not to even know whether or not it will be awarded even though if my husband said no to the increase in hours we would still have it.

Welcome to the forum Jewelsl, I applied in February I'm nearly at week 42 now and when I rang them a couple of weeks ago they told me that it would more than likely be the either just before Christmas or early in the new year. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed, that it will be just before Christmas but not holding my breath, its so hard, and now are car is on the blink which we need to bring my mam to and from hosptial appointments. Its just not fare, but what can we do....

Hi have been following this thread for last 5 months, i applied 20 december, still waiting to hear anything, but today i received a social services card in the post ive never needed one because my childrens allowances is paid into my bank account and me and my kids are under his jobseekers claim, so just wondering did anyone receive a card before receiving carers payment.

Philomena I don't know, someone on this thread a long while back got one sent out, and thought she'd got the carers, but was still refused :(

If you get the free bus pass, it means you've got it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 tipplady

hi all i heard that if the pass bus comes you have been accepted, that is what i am hoping for, mine is 18 months now going on, what with being refused and now the appeal, hope to hear something maybe this week or the week after,i could still be refused, dont know what to do then does anyone know,

i applied in june 2011,after a long wait and not hearing anything i rang in sept 2011 to be told they lost my application,re-applied,more long waits, back and forth with bank statements, transfered some money from my joint account into a private acc i have for direct debits etc, they wanted bank statements for that acc all to be told last april my wife who can barely walk and needs help to get out of bed wasnt incapacitated enough for me to qualify.
Appealed with more evidence,c.t scan results, docs letters etc, appeall ofice approved on the 29th of last month,i rang longford to be told im right back at the start of the pile and im in for another long wait,i asked could i be skipped forward considering its been 18 months and politely told no and guess what, theyll want more bank statements.
My honest opinion is they(s.w c.a`s section) hope that you get fed up waiting or you wont bother appealing or get fed up waiting for your appeal and youll just give up.
Im also a little concerned as ive read somewhere on this site that backdating now is another issue people are having problems with, also no one seems to know whether ill get full rate or half.As my wife is claiming for me on her d.a will i get full or half.
Its gas she gets approved for d.a no probs and i get refused to care for her originally.(altough my appeal was succesfull)
Has anyone had a similar experience,id love to hear

Yes, if you're awarded carers allowance you automatically get the bus pass. A lot of the time the pass is sent out before the person has recieved the letter of approval.
