I'd love to be joining ye for Waterford but have to mind the wee one that sat!
Would it be too soon to run 11miles? I was going to jog home (easy) from work on Wed.

Sure what else would I do on a cold Saturday morning in December... :D

Been reading through the thread after a very busy week...Thats some line up for Waterford guys, must say I'd love to go but its just too far...I've managed to convince the other half that a 4 hour drive to Limerick makes much more sense than a 20 min drive to do Belfast in May though :p

I'll be on the look out for a 10km or half further north in december, can't really find anything so if anyone knows of anything please let me know.

Many thanks to Meno for the training plan and PM for the spreadsheet. I'm really looking forward to running 5 days a week and really need this structure to make it happen :D I've started a part time job in the evenings which probably rules out a running club for now and means early morning mid-week runs for me, so the support from here will be invaluable in virtually kicking my butt out the door :D Bring on the pyramid strides, another one here running too fast :o

All the cool kids are in for Waterford ;) I'm on the list.

7 easy miles yesterday afternoon 10.41mpm - I had found the slow pace difficult to handle but has discovered that my dog's top speed is just about right! Poor mutt went to bed straight after and runs away any time he hears me close by!

I felt really really good afterwards it is amazing what going slow does, no niggles, no thinking about bumps & bruises no looking at watches or concentrating on breathing or cadence. Slow is definitely the new fast in my life.

    Finally a convert :D
That's exactly how 'easy' pace should feel. Believe me, you will reap benefits from these paces that you wouldn't believe (yet), it also makes clocking up the mileage much more bearable.

Good stuff, quite how it will get me from 10.40min pace to a hopeful 9min marathon pace I have no idea, but I'll trust you....

    ...for now. ;)

So so jealous of you all doing waterford. I spend a lot of time there as other half from there.have ran that road to and from tramore for many of my LSR this summer so would love to be doing it.unfortunately having minor surgery on twenty second of Nov so my running will be curtailed till mid Dec probably. Hope you all do brilliantly.

I wish I had the can't slow down problem, I'm the queen of easy running, it's the speeding up that I have the issue with :-)

You can already run 9 min/ mile can't you? The trick is to be able to keep the pace up for 26.2 of them. Strength and endurance as Mr Slow says ;-)

Edit to say, if you read through younganne's log, she did all her easy and long runs for DCM at 10+ min/mile and had no trouble breaking 4 hrs. I think our own career_move was the same ;-)

Slow and fast are relative terms and are different for everybody. Besides I never mentioned slow, I mentioned 'easy'. What is easy for you is not necessarily easy for someone else and vice versa.

Without doubt, The 3 key aspects of a successful marathon are strength, endurance and psychology ;)

Yes, other than DCM2012, all my races to date have been at sub 9 pace inc 2 half marathons.

I'm liking the cut of your jib menoscemo, you can stick around!

I'm sorely tempted to get out and try a run and see how the leg goes. I'm like a drug addict in rehab plotting an elaborate escape at the moment. I really think running is addictive.

I was wondering how you were getting on! Went back to physio tonight and he said to wait another 2 weeks before I run again. I'm getting so tetchy not being able to run but he says better wait 2 weeks than have 7 months of injured runnign after so I'll pass on that piece of advice to you!

Unfortunately in the same boat here myself. Where my left shin meets my ankle was sore after dcm (thinking back i think it was painful over last 5miles that day but there was pain everywhere so just kept going). Rested for week after dcm and iced it etc. felt ok and did couple of easy 2/3 miles last week was improving i thought. Did 7 easy miles sunday but after 4 miles the pain came back and got worse especially on downhills. its just where my shin bone joins my foot on the front. Not sore to touch anywhere and can walk fine but running downhill seems to be worst. physio booked for wednesday so hoping it not one of PM,s dreaded stress fracture stories.thinking about not being able to run for weeks is already playing on my mind especially as i see almost everyone on here bombing along to their next race. was going to start a log too as i,m a poor contributor but will wait till i get back on the roads. was going to do clonakilty half as local to me here but at 50 euro i,ll hardly enter by closing date as i may not be able to run it. Good to have new log to read here with familar names so I am looking forward to trying to knock 16 mins off my dcm time and get 3.59 in limerick or cork next year.

YAAAHHH another one for Paris :) Booked flights yesterday so def have to go now! I was just thinking yesterday how difficult its going to be doing the mid week runs in the dark  All part of the experience I guess. When are you starting your plan? I'm waiting on receiving my "Advanced Marthoning" book before I put a plan in place. Now let the search for accomodation begin :D

My friend wants to do the 18 week up to 70 mile P&D plan from Advanced Marathoning. You can download the bare bones plan here: (http://www.derekleewo.com/djapps/trainingPlans/viewPlan/8/)

This plan would see me starting something like next week or the week after.

I'm not so sure that I want to start in earnest so soon, nor peak at so many miles. Really though, I haven't thought this through at all I've just said I'd do it. The thoughts of all that running in the dark is not encouraging, but sure we'll be in great shape for the summer :)

When are you traveling, out on the Saturday back on Monday?

I've signed up for this too.

Did it about a year ago and it is pretty tough, plenty of hill training required to complete it quickly.. Lots of fun though!

God that looks intense!! Did the Runamuck thing last yr -similar idea only on a more 'fun' scale -www.runamuckchallenge.com
Lots of bales of hay, climbing walls and rivers to wade but not the shoulder high mud or electric fences.....Oh and you crawled under netting not barbed wire:eek:

Our group had the dubious honor of coming last (not my fault of course!!). Although did get a prize for that (pity prize but only prize I've ever been awarded so I'll take it... ;) )

First post marathon run done last night, 4 miles really really slow. Id been laid up with some nasty ITB and knee pains. I only really started walking ok, but still with pain late last week. I took the plunge and went out last night as I was cracking up, foam rolled myself well afterwards too. I feel pretty ok today, better than yesterday morning actually which is strange. Gonna keep taking it easy, do another slow 4 tomorrow night and at the weekend and see where I am. GF is doing the Waterford half, I was tempted but im really glad I held back now as I would have messed myself up!

So glad to be "back", in some fashion at least!

Cheers for the link. I'm aiming to follow the 18week 55mile program. Its a huge step up from the mileage I did for Dublin so hope I can follow it. I see it has me clocking 40 and 42miles during Xmas, could be interesting  Did you do much mileage for Dublin?

Luckily Paris coincides with my work holidays so we're making a proper break of it, going from Thurs until Mon. This is why I chose it over Rotterdam, Rotterdam was going to be hard to get the time off work. So plan now is, sightseeing Friday, rest Sat, run and hopefully celebrate Sun and home Mon :)
