Hi. Just to clarify, all applicants that have been awarded will receive an awarded letter, outlining their award and instructions on how to submit bank account details online, if maintenance payments are applicable.

The bank must be one of the following: Bank of Ireland, AIB, Permanet TSB, Ulster Bank, EBS or National Irish Bank. Note the bank branch must be in the Republic of Ireland.

"...Tip to people who have been awarded and are still awaiting payment, check with your college that they have sent off your attendence to SUSI for september..."

Is it my job to request an attendence update for SUSI?
I have been awarded full maintainance, entered my bank details weeks back, and still no payment!?!?!

No harm in takin a couple minutes to check sorted mine and I should be paid next friday at the latest if not before, there aint no point in ringing SUSI coz they wont tell you anything and they didnt contact my college to check what the hold up was either.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I went up to records in my university in Edinburgh, they said usually its done by an online system but it could be just an email confirming attendance, as their is not many Irish students as opposed to uk students.

I rang SUSI at 3pm this afternoon and was kept on hold for ten minutes then a voice over asked me to leave my number and a rep would call me back as soon as one became available, its now 5.30pm and no callback. It's desperate situation.

As far as I can see, this isn't becoming an biggerissue in the press natinaly because us students are an easy target. The general population think we are freeloaders, on the piss everyday on taxpayers money. If you speak out, they will say we have it easy and to shut up.

This has allowed SUSI to take the absolute piss in terms of losing documents, the farcical slowness of them to process applications and their inability to give information to those of us in desperate need it so we can try sort our finances (loans etc)

    SuSi

Can you please explain why no body is returning calls?

Also why am I been asked to submit documentation I have already submitted back in early August, eg, I was an adult dependent on my partner's sick benefit last year, I send away for the requested Social Welfare Statement to Illness Benefit section in Dublin and it clearly states my husband's and the adult dependant rate. However, two weeks ago you requested another statement from me outlining the adult dependent rate, I duely contacted Illness Benefit section again and the lady I spoke to was surprised as this information was already given previously so they send me out yet another statement outling the adult dependent rate. I send this into you a couple of weeks ago and still not a word back.

Please reply, my child is now into the third month in College and its it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep him there.

I wouldn't wait for a call back, I'd just call them again. I, and another person got through to the grant people around 5.50pm today and pretty much got an instant reply which was unusual to say the least but we were thankful as we've wasted so much credit calling them in the past.

Anyone who has the grant know how long their grant was in the "awaiting review" stage?

Got the letter today saying my fees are paid. I was fairly late sending in documents, sent the FCA form in the third week of September.

Im genuinely delighted for you but perhaps Robbie from Susi would care to explain the utterly bizarre system of prioritising later applicants over those who have all their documents in since July?

Of course needless to say his untouchable bosses, like all the other well paid civil servants in Ireland, wont have to answer to anyone for this mess they have overseen, because in this country, incompetence and mess is rewarded with big massive pay cheques whereas in a private company out there in the logical world, they'd all be sacked and never left in charge of anything again.

Of course in true Irish fashion they tried to blame the applicants for delaying the process for not copying their documents, but in the documentation they sent out they asked for applicants to submit originals at one point, and required copies only photocopies in another

So untouchable are SUSI, that despite being a public body, the ombudsman cant even touch them. This despite a blatant shambles of a system.

the government wrongly uses 1.1 million euro on promoting the yes vote on the referendom while we are bare gething by while waiting for the grant if even that lucky, if you take it as the average student get 3000 euro from the grant including fees that is 366 student worth it is ridiculous

I sent them a couple of emails before and got replies all the times. Phoned them a couple of times also and always got an answer. I would think ringing would be better. You might be on hold for a few minutes.

Rang them up today for an update. Good news! I was accepted today and my letter was sent today. I should receive it next Monday or Tuesday. I'll enter in the bank details on the website as soon as I get the letter and the lady told me my payment should be there the Friday of the following week. HAPPY DAYS!

I propose that the head of SUSI be brought up before the public accounts committee to explain why the state is handing over money to run such an inefficient disastrous setup. Id love to see Shane Ross grill him/her for one.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

i found this on the ombudsman website today....

    "What's on this week
The Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection will meet on 13 November with SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) to discuss delays in student grant applications and on 14 November with Comhairle na nÓg to discuss issues related to Relationships and Sexuality, Education and Social, Personal and Health Education and with Minister for Education and Skills, Mr Ruarí Quinn who will be briefed for next EU Council of Ministers"

Here is the contact details of Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection

    http://www.oireachtas.ie/parliament/oireachtasbusiness/committees_list/educationandsocialprotection/contact/

One of the committee's goals as listed on their website is "Ensuring Ireland’s education system benefits all of society and is recognised internationally as a top class system"

SUSI is a long way from that.

I got the later saying the amount I'm getting and entered the bank details.

When will the grant come in, and do I have to tell the college for them to pay my fees or will they automatically know?

I have to send back the form of acceptance. So how does it get into my account I don't remember giving them my bank details or is there another form they send after?

My son got a letter yesterday saying
Award - 100% Tuition fees and 100% Student contribution (subject to a maximum of €6,270)
    Maintenance - €0.00
This despite our combined income for the year 2011 was 25,000!
What do ye think are the chances that we'll be successful on appeal? Our combined income for this year will be similar. His college is 50 miles away from home and is the nearest one to us that is doing this course. We've managed to pay the rent so far, but are really concerned now.

Hi, I would definitely appeal that, I've seen on this website and others that people have been sent letters with the wrong amount on them. Call them up to double check it was the amount that they consider that he was entitled to, then appeal if they didn't think they made a mistake. Get on to your local TD and maybe your son's college has a student union that is dealing with the problems to do with the granting system.
