Whoever dares criticise them should have to post what kind of things they DO find funny. :D

Dylan Moran, Stewart Lee, Monty Python, Black Books, Spaced, that kind of thing.
They're very low brow. Trying to lampoon Irish character is grand but the only Irish character in these is a bit of a Cork accent mixed with a really poor skit. That's the whole thing.
Each to their own but I don't think they're funny.

Read about these sminky cartoons and I had to go and google and check out youtube. Are they supposed to be funny? They are not. I watched one and didn't find it funny so then watched another to see if I find the humour in another but I didn't. Then I watched another and another and more and they are not funny. I fail to see where the comedy is in them. They're dry.

There is one of these cartoons on the telly advertising a film week in Cork and the ad got something right - there's two men on a bench and it protrayed the elder as a pretentious, snobby cock but far from funny it is. It's a number one up on youtube. How?

I've been making Flash long before Sminky made it big. The whole "accent" thing isn't enough to make an animation good. A ****ing mouse saying that's right isn't funny. The Cock a doodle doo one is just a bunch of heavy chav talk and is downright unwatchable.
I also want to point out Sminky's attempted censorship of my video(s) criticizing him. Not so much of a good guy, now is he? One I got back up, the other is still down because some jackass flagged it as "bullying, threatening, or harrasment". None of which it was. Because he couldn't handle some guy on the internet criticizing him.
For he record, I DO live in Cork. I get the concept. It just so happens that IT'S NOT FUNNY. So I also have to endure knackers quoting Sminky constantly, but that's a different story.

Its a simple minded humour, for simple people imo, not in the least bit funny. Slapstick at its worst. Aimed at country people with very sheltered lives

Slapstick is physical comedy. Sminky shorts is verbal comedy. What was that about being simple?

Turtle falls into a water. Goat hits tree. Very basic ****. Doesn't make it any better.

You're just jealous that he's being signed and you've done f*ck all.
Though you could make funny some clips with your hysterical voice

Have to agree with posters above, there's not a lot going on there.
Mario Rosenstock/Gift Grub has done the Cork accent schtick before but in a cleverer way. It's all in the writing, damn hard to make stuff funny consistently.

There are better, more successful animators to be jealous of. Like Lauren Faust, Egoraptor, Adam Phillips.
Why would I be jealous of Sminky being owned and controlled by someone else, while I can make whatever I please.
With that logic, you should be jealous of ME. For the little I DO make off animation is more than you do (for animation).

I think we found the source here. You've probably been at this a while with little or no success wheras people have identified and through social media popularised the Sminky Shorts. Its not to everyone taste but its popular, look at Mrs. Browns Boys or Kilinascully, I don't like them but someone does. You need to just accept this.

Best of luck with in your video making hobby, maybe one day you'll make it big like Sminky but begruding him his success and scouffing at his animation and content won't do you much good.

I don't like them myself, I think the Cork accent and bogger slang jokes are done to death. It's the running theme throughout his shorts but people are lapping it up and he seems to have landed on his feet with that agency and job offers.

Not too shabby from just uploading very short clips, me thinks. Well done to him.

I've probably made more money off my limited film career then you have off animation but no need to go measuring dicks

I have more fans than Sminky has on Newgrounds, over 100,000 views on NG and YouTube combined. €50 worth of ad revenue in one year. That's good enough for me. I don't animate for fame. I would have made that video whether or not I animate. It can't change the fact that it's not well made.

I have criticized much less successful Flash before.

No one dares touch the censorship Sminky has pulled. I give constructive criticism, this guy takes diwn the video. Someone else screencaps and actually infringes copyright of the shorts, they get to stay.

Mikey I can't find your video. Could you link? What is your constructive criticism? Your posts here don't read as constructive at all.

The videos are funny because they poke fun at Irish culture. Sure they are exaggerated but that's called artistic licence. The accents are really well done and the scenarios are funny because they are fairly true to life e.g. two auld wans lamenting the loss of a good soul is fairly similar to the scenario where the two mice lament the loss of their friend. Two auld wans shaking their heads and imploring their son to slow down in the car lest he do damage is like the Tommy video. Except the scenarios Sminky created are funnier because they play on these everyday Irish situations by wildly exaggerating them and casting cute animated animals in the roles of the Irish people.

I find them hilarious to be honest. A nice amusing look at Irish society in the same vein as Father Ted.

Considering your awful, poor and abusive review, where in the first 5 seconds a message pops up calling Sminkys creator a pussy, I don't blame him for reporting you. God knows what the other video was like.
You sound like a petulant 12 year old God love you.

Do you live in Ireland? Surely you've interacted with enough people to get some grip on 'bogger' accents. It seems like it'd take an artificial degree of social isolation to be that genuinely inexperienced.

    Dafuk is this crap?
I can't make out most of what is being said either.
I just haven't a good ear for accents.
I remember being in a taxi in Cork once and was completely baffled as to what the taxi driver said the entire trip.
    Same in Kerry.
Strong accents like that just sound like gibberish to me.

Lowering yourself to petty insults? How was my review poor? It wasn't abusive, in fact in the actual video itself (not the annotation) I never say anything bad to Sminky on a personal level. And after towing with my right to Freedom of Speech on YouTube, I should tell him to eat me. The other video was me taking the piss out of the idiots who made the stupidest comments on the review. Never personally insulting anyone.
    I am 16.

That's a matter of opinion though. I find accents hilarious at times.

I like Sminky shorts in small doses, they're not all brilliant but some bring a smile to my face, it's not just a play on the accents but the characters that do talk like that.

Give us the titles of some of your vids on Newgrounds or YouTube, I'm feeling all Roger Ebert this evening and I'm armed with a webcam

If I critique your review then i'm lowering myself to pretty insults. Right.
Nothing personal, but straight up called him a pussy before you even got rolling. Right.
I don't think there is freedom of speech on YouTube. Some licencing agreement or something. Terms and conditions and all that.
16 kind of makes sense, no offence. It seems a bit like overkill to make 2 videos if you don't mind me saying.

That was an annotation added later AFTER the video was reinstated by Google.

Licensing? You need a LICENCE TO ALLOW FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Excuse me while I facepalm. Also, research: http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines clearly says they ENCOURAGE FREE SPEECH and allow defense of unpopular opinion.
16 kind of makes sense, no offence. It seems a bit like overkill to make 2 videos if you don't mind me saying.
The second video wasn't about Sminky. It was about stupid comments.

But why make the review video at all? It took you a whole hour to make a video just because of one internet stranger's youtube videos. Why even react to it when it's easier to ignore? And then you made another video responding to people criticizing your video. I honestly can't comprehend why you'd go to the effort. I really, really, really fcuking hate X-Factor et al, but instead of acting butthurt reviewing it on Youtube, I ignore it. That way everyone, especially me, is happy.

It's not effort. It's as simple as recording my voice, downloading clips and images, and putting them together by dragging and dropping.

Anyhoo, I've made reviews of bad things for years. I'm not even the first! Bad games, mostly but I sometimes review good stuff too. I wanted to take my reviews in a new direction with movies and animations too, so why not start big? If I wasn't gonna go for Sminky, I would have gone for another animator.

    Exactly.
Completely agree with you. My young fellas had me laughing all the way to Dublin last week with taking off the cartoons - I'm still laughing thinking about it. Sminky shorts is one of the few things they agree on. Got home and had to watch them and most of them were lovely - very simple yet intelligent take on Irish society. Even the main fella liked them and he never laughs. Good on the creator of them for doing something creative at all and congrats at the over 1,000,000 views :D

It's hard enough to do anything creative in Ireland without people knocking you down straight away. It's not just RTE policy that has the best of our comedians going to the UK - we have a culture of not giving people a chance to prove themselves over time.
