I flick the switch to 60hz and everything goes black and white.
I tried every av input but no joy.
Could it be my av cable?
    It's not fair!
Also, colours in SMB3 are all off, famicom edition, same as the Pal version on the same console. I wonder if anyone might know why?

It was working grand before this yeah? Plus the Famicom is acting up too? Common denominator is the tv, have you changed any settings on it lately?

Not sure, I am in the process of rejigging the AV cabling and perhaps that will improve matters.

A change in TV may be warranted but that will entail the hiring of a crane to get the thing into the attic!

Or maybe I'll abandon the CRT completely.... don't know!!

It's not easy being a retrogame collector, if only people could understand our pain!

It's all very vague, isn't it? I find it hard to imagine that Braben can't get the money to make an new a Elite game.

Oh and the Lighthouse cinema showed a print of the Iron Giant earlier this year. Was amazing to see it on the big screen as I missed out first time around as the films marketing led me to believe it would be terrible.

I hate this lark of games companies crowd sourcing funds to make a game onto to then charge people to actually buy the game. This is a deplorable practice.

Until Sega do it for Shenmue 3... then I'm all for it. Prove me wrong Sega... prove... me... wrong...

    .

    How is it deplorable ?

If you're a backer of the project then I'd assume the minimum you get is a copy of the game at a non-extortionate price. Sure, you can pay much more to get your name into the credits etc if that's your thing.

Now, I'd be pretty pissed if I contributed €50 for a game with a RRP of €5 for instance.

Bit odd that he's resorted to kickstarter though for funding, I guess if you're not making a Call of Duty/Halo clone these days its hard to get a publisher to back you.

Anyone else get one of these emails? I cant figure out if it's an ebay phishing scam or legit. The main site it links to seems to be legit and they have an ebayapp.

Unless it's a really fancy phishing scam?

Sounds dodgy to me. I'm guessing they'll ask you for your eBay or PayPal password somewhere along the way.

It's deplorable because the likes of Activision are doing it for MW4 or whatever they're on to now... they were able to raise their own funding for it before so why crowd source? Because they're exploiting systems for maximum profit that's why.

Your kidding me? Now that is wrong, some of those CoD games break records every year for sales figures

Yeah Black Ops 2 had a kickstarter going at some point too but now I can't find it.

Probably all the bad press they were getting.

If people are stupid enough to buy in to a kickstarter fund for a mainstream established franchise they're more stupid than I thought.

It's a bit sick alright - Kickstarter is an amazing way for people with great ideas but not too much financial backing to get something out.

Having mainstream franchises all over it makes a mockery of the system. Sure they might as well start sticking Mc Donalds ads on the front page.

I'd throw my money behind a kickstarter to bring back the McRib!

I'm not sure if this is a problem, but it's certainly a restriction: when it comes to software Kickstarters, familiarity and the 'nostalgia dollar' are overwhelmingly effective tools. The vast majority of the successful gaming Kickstarters have been focused on brands, genres or people that are well established - from Tim Schafer and Obsidian to Wasteland and Broken Sword. This is inevitable - it's easier to sell something recognisable than something new. While genres like RTS, old-school RPGs or point and click adventures may not be as commercially viable as they once were, there's still a sizable yet niche fanbase ready to sustain productions on a smaller scale. That's where Kickstarter has proven most useful - a direct financial relationship between fans and the creators of these niche games. However, this has a side effect of making newer, more unusual Kickstarter projects much harder to get off the ground. Although interestingly in other mediums and even gaming hardware innovative, ambitious projects have enjoyed Kickstarter success - Oculus Rift and Ouya particularly..

For the moment, Kickstarter campaigns seem to be most effective for supporting classic style games (surely with a few exceptions, although certainly few high-profile ones). It's for that reason Kickstarter is probably restricted to a very specific type of project at the moment (and also potentially open to exploitation), but hopefully along the way it will evolve into something where users are more willing to support riskier and original titles. Although it'll take something very special to assure gamers that an untested formula is worth the risk. Until then, 'safe' projects will continue to rule.

I've been introduced to the concept of 'group projects' through this new course I'm doing. I can see why they do it, to help you understand and work together as a team so you are ready for it when you inevitably have to work as a team in industry.

However what I've taken from it after 2 weeks is that 3/4 people are mongs and would be fired if they were in my company. After two weeks after multiple emails I've not gotten a single one back or any input from any of them...

Some experience last year with my group project.
One never turned up for the presentation and never gave in his part. 2500 word Essay was concluded with a 50 word paragraph. Oh and none of them cited their work, which is just basic.
    Totally shambolic.

Yeah, Molyneaux seems too busy to make actual games any more, just over rated crap like Fable, unreleased Pedo simulators for the Kinect and whatever the frak the Cube game is meant to be.
Remember when he made good games, like Magic Carpet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭CosmicSmash

I did like the first Fable on the xbox but it went downhill after that :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

There might be a new Magic Carpet game inside the cube.

He said it was a video link inside.

    I'm guessing either this:

Or the worlds biggest rick roll.

    I liked Fable 2.

I also tend to like mystery boxes (preferably adorned with a question mark) with weird **** inside, although Richard Kelly did his best to sour that timeless concept with the sheer awfulness of The Box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭CosmicSmash

    I liked Fable 2.

I think the third was the biggest disappointment for me, it promised so much and delivered so little. The npc interactions felt soulless and empty the whole game had a certain clunky feeling, lacking a bit of polish. I bought the dlc for Fable 2 so I must have liked it all the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

I enjoyed Fable 2 but it was a huge step backwards in a lot of ways. Fable 1 was much too small with huge loading times in between tiny areas.

3 was pretty damn horrible over all though.

Went to see green day the musical on ice on broadway this evening. Was really good, highly recommend it to anyone who's a fan of the band.

Battlefield 1942 is free at the moment for those interested.
    http://store.origin.com/store/eaemea/en_IE/html/pbPage.demos-en_IE

I think you'll need to have an Origin account to get it.
