Well its fair to say we were a bit of mark in terms of it being released in the next couple of days :/

I didn't think it would be out before the Game Informer exclusive.

This whole situation reminds me of the South Park when the boys want to see the Terrence and Phillip trailer during the Russell Crowe show.

Months and months of build up for something we will watch once for 2 mins and then forget about. And then everyone will comment on how amazing it is because they are in denial :D

I still go back and watch the first trailer most days and I'm far from the only one

Makes more sense to release it after game informer i suppose. then it might put a slow down on the magazines sales if if were the other way around. so within the next 10 days we get a preview and a video. as soon as Christmas gets out of the way the first few months fly and gta v will be out. thank Christ

I'm fairly certain GameInformer would've seen the second trailer already, so I reckon they've been told to not say certain things (that will appear in trailer 2).

I'd say my theory will prove to be true if we see, perhaps, a lot of large-print pictures (if we see something as obvious as a double page spread of a screenshot then I reckon they had to strip some text out).

Of course! I'd predict sunglasses girl and lady cop will make it to the centre pages. :P

Anyone else kind of, in a weird way, not looking forward to the second trailer?

Despite being a bit hyped for it (well, not so much hyped, but genuinely curious) I think R* have managed to back themselves into a corner. A corner wherein everyone's expectations have been set to ludicrous levels and absolutely nothing they do can meet or exceed them?

I'm looking to next week's trailer with great interest, as I'm very, very interested in GTA V and, like everyone else, I'm awaiting the 'big reveal'.

We've all waited a year to be shown something that'll blow the bollocks off us*. However, I don't see it. I can't think of anything that they could add to the game, or show me a snippet of, that will have me sitting up in my chair with wide eyes.

Even if they have got dogs, cows, parachuting, articulated trucks, etc. it's all stuff that's either been seen and done before or is a novelty item that'll wear off after five or ten minutes.

I have to say, though; we all know GTA is an amazing videogame series, but from day one Rockstar have handled the promotion of this game absolutely terribly. If Rockstar were a PR company, based on the V experience, they'd go bust in a matter of weeks.

When they initially revealed the game they seemed to have forgotten that San Andreas was made up of three islands and they had to make that announcement (that it was only LA). Then they wouldn't say anything new about the game, but simultaneously tried to promote it a little (in an obvious attempt to try to sell some extra copies of Max Payne) and tell people to shut up talking about it (by removing posting privileges on the Newswire).

Then they send stuff to print and when the release time-frame get's put online by someone else (was bound to happen!), they throw a fit and start removing comments and giving warnings left, right and centre.

Even the way they word things on the Newswire. The guy that was asking about the trailer before got a reply saying "don't be expecting us to give regular updates on our New York office" (paraphrase) when they could as easily have written "unfortunately we are unable to provide regular updates".

It's all very strange, and very, very different, if I recall, to the IV release. It's almost as though they're begrudgingly making the game.

    *I love that line

They've got everyone that they wanted to get talking about it so it's hardly a failure on their part, it's mission accomplished.

The GTA series are games that sell themselves, they have such a good reputation they just don't need to make any effort to sell it. The less they say the more people want until it's built up to a frenzy by release date. It's a tried and tested method of advertising that rarely works but when it does the customer does all the work for the advertisers.

Back to plugs wish list for a sec...
I think a camera would be a great idea, that you could upload it to your social network site like Facebook etc.
San Andreas had a camera too and that was cool.

Used to love recruiting 7 gang members in Grove Street, and then getting a passer by to take a photo of us in front of the Johnson house. :P

The trailer will at the very least reveal new information about the layout of the city, possible missions, guns and characters involved. Its the dissection of the trailer thats more fun than the trailer itself.

Now the Russel Crowe show theme song is stuck in my head

I understand what you're saying, and I completely agree, that the game sells itself.

I just feel Rockstar have handled it very poorly. I used to quite like Rockstar and looked at them as a bit of an 'average joe soap' kinda company. You know, the kinda company that can relate to the everyday person, a 'games by the people for the people' kinda rapport.

And they've always seemed pretty decent on their Newswire and in their emails. But with GTA V it's like they just can't stand the game and are sick to the teeth of it, and hearing about it.

I just think it's all been very poorly managed. I'll still buy the game, there's no point in saying I won't, but my opinion of Rockstar has plummeted over the last 12 months.

Was the same way myself. A game company that gets it, that doesnt feel faceless and thats run by people like you and me. Not like say, EA, which feels like a faceless entity. I still vouch for R* as having more personality than most game companies though

As far as GTA V is concerned, you wouldnt know whats going on behind the scenes. The development team is probably sick and tired of working on it, there could be internal conflict in the company and they arent gelling as well as they used to. Of course thats just conjecture

GTA IV released end of April 2008 for PS3/Xbox with the PC version being released the following December.

If the same happens again it could be 13 months before release. :P

Seriously though that would suck, the idea of buying a ps3 this late in the game is depressing.

This seems like a massive over-reaction based on next to nothing, tbh.

You could as easily spin it the other way because we know pretty much nothing about it

Buy an xbox version of the game.
Become a hacker (youtube will help for this)
Port the game to PC yourself
    Sell on Steam for profit.

    What could possibly go wrong?

All will be revealed in a couple of days. I'm dying to see if its true. My bet, it is as these guys don't troll.

I dont know man. All these rumours about being able to play more than one character in a gta game is kind of of putting ( atleast for me anyway).

I would rather play as a single character rather than multiple ones. It makes it more personal. Though i liked what they did
at the end o Red dead redemption
That was a " WOW " moment for me. It was very realistic too.

Well I've been fairly closely following the game and it's updates (or lack thereof) since first mention of it.

Rockstar's attitude to people talking about it has been horrible at times (out-right telling people to 'shut up' talking about it).

They clearly released the first trailer to try and sell more copies of Max Payne, but it backfired when people still didn't care that much about MP3, and so a lot of GTA talk ensued on the Newswire, and multiple warnings and "comment privileges being revoked" (aka bans) going round the place.

Fans of the game getting tired of the wait and being treated poorly commented on the newswire and were told to pretty much 'deal with it' (this is all paraphrasing, by the way, but accurate enough).

Go back a little while and go through the Newswire comments from earlier in the year. I'm sure R* will have removed a massive portion of the conversations/comments, but I'm certain there must still be some there. Rockstar have come off as assholes.

As someone said above, Rockstar were never really viewed as the 'faceless' kind of company, but they're really soured over the last while (or at least my opinion of them has, anyway).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Beefy78

If that is Rockstar's response then they're bang on. And if their employees and developers are bored with anything then it's probably with how needy a chunk of their fanbase are.

You say that Rockstar doesn't look after the every day person anymore. But who is the every day person? I like to think that I am and personally I'm rather happy that they're not feeding the hype machine every week like another studio would have been doing.

The game was always going to be released only when it was ready. As we get closer to that point we'll hear more and more about the game. Until then they should have been left to get on with it.

Something interesting would be if there was 3 or 4 disks you get a character a disk and they all come together at the end. Though I'd prefer if there was an installation disk and a master disk that you could install everything and just play off the one. That probably wont happen though.
