Picked up some alloys from done deal. 16's, off a passat. Tyres like new. Didn't fit sellers car. Paid just over 300, and the tyres are over 80 each. So free alloys!

Those UniRoyal RainExperts are great tyres for the money. I put a set on the mother's car recently and it can't spin the wheels in the wet in 3rd anymore.. There was triangles on it...

Through brute force, ignorance, muck, rain and a biting wind, I finally got them along with new stabiliser links :D

Discs and callipers are a bonus :D

Now, need a set of handbrake cables... I doubt the drum ones are the same :P

After a week of a flashing handbrake light a long time with spongy pedal and a full inpection Found this and a busted cylinder.

Just the simple things that make all the difference :)

My ashtray was a bloody disaster. Opening at will, wouldn't close... Decided on another one.

Ok, Can someone tell me if that cylinder and shoes look bad? Or is it worse because of the leak?

I sat in traffic in mine on my 8th day working in a row dreaming of a day off to wash it

    (sigh)

I can't see the linings too well but the fluid leak would have made it look worse.

Once you cleaned up the drum itself well with the new shoes there shouldn't be a problem :)

Got my rear heated seats finished this evening, went extremely well and very happy with the results. Bargain for €60.

    Here's the kit:

The pads for the seat base:

Removing the edge of the hide:

    Installed in position:

    Installed in the seat backs:

Finally got the holes cut perfectly for the switches:

Wires passed from the back seats along the trunking below the carpet which traverses the transmission tunnel, popped up in the rear centre console, a horrible job:

    Job done!

Kind of glad I got this kit now with the cold weather...must check if its arrived at the folks place

What did you use to drill the switches? Holesaw or something ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Got a drill press as Marlow recommended, €24.99. It's a pretty crap one though.

Used a 19mm spade bit, couldn't find a holesaw by itself in that size, could of used a 20mm one though as the hole was too small, widened it with a dremel. It scored the cheap metal on the opposite side enough for me to just pop it out.

Lovely smell came from the wood on cutting, its been trapped between the varnish and metal backing for 13 years. :)

Collected the car with the KWs, was preparing myself for the worst (ride wise) but **** me pink, it's more comfortable than the standard stuff! I'm delighted!

The ride height was set far too high on the front so I brought it down an inch and still have an inch and a half of thread left. The top of the tyre is currently sitting just inside the arch so it's spot on. Going to leave it for a week before lowering the rear a little and getting it aligned. Only took around 30 minutes to lower the front, most of that time was spent trying to get the bastarding lock nuts off. Horrible, horrible things.

I'm curious to see how the dash replacements work out for you. Have already changed all the ceiling & door lights in ours, along with parking & reverse lights.

they work quite well actually, one of the lads on the MR2 forums used the exact same ones with great results..it looked abit too bright for me but his is a jap and doesn't have the dash dimmer switch that the euro spec 2s have :D

if it stays dry Ill try and get them in today:cool:

Too bright would be my concern too - though I have the dimmer too so may not be too bad.

Looking forward to photos anyway :)

it wasn't too bright but i'd like the option of dimming it...it was prob just the quality of pics but it was a big difference in brightness...I'll take a pic with various stages in the dimmer.

sure if all goes to all, you could put in 9 SMDs instead

heres a pic of the other guys dash anyway:

I took a few befores of mine last night

Yesterday I replaced the indicator on the driver's side wing mirror on the Passat and and got it NCT'd. Next one due in January 2015. Next up is replacing the front tyres, and possibly the rears too money depending. That'll be next month's pay.

Dash LEDs fitted...I'll wait for dark to appear before I take the pics but put it this way I couldn't see the halogens when they were on in the light...I can now see the LEDs perfectly..:D no dull spots by the looks of things anyway..

A bit of pricking about with the bulb holders to make a good connection but worth the half an hour it took.

still waiting on regplate lights, red smds for the door cards and something special up my sleeve for the boot.
