Guys can I ask any of ye that might know. Is Lost Kingdoms II for the Gamecube any good and what would it normally go for on eBay? Is it rare at all? Can't find a whole lot of info on eBay myself.

I don't think it's meant to be up to much, you should be able to pick it up for around a tenner.

The original Burnout was a real pleasure, a rough diamond to be sure but a real revelation compared to the rest of the field, felt like we got to be in all our favourite chase scenes.
Burnout 2 was awesome as well, I wasn't taken with the direction the series took with number 3.
The last one on the PS2 was incredible though, looked next gen before the 360 was even out!

I thought Burnout 3: Takedown was really good. It was brilliant fun online, when XBL was just in it's infancy on the original Xbox. I really liked the arcade feel to it, and the crash mode was a great laugh and very addictive. Great graphics for that time too.

I'd never heard of the series before i played B3 on a "backup" (ahem) copy on my PS2 and I liked it so much i bought it for Xbox so i could play online. Who says piracy hurts game developers? ;)

Well, I got Revenge for 360, so if anyone wants to take me on online, I'd be willing to do that.

Oh, and since this is a retro discussion, what kinds of things did those turtles put on their pizzas?

Get a friend over and turn on Split / Second split screen. The game transcends into something completely different in multiplayer.

Can't recommend S/S enough, loved it when it 1st came out, recently reinstalled it and still had a blast with it.

Wasn't too gone on Blur but, then again, I had awful trouble getting it to playable standard since it despised AMD GPUs.

Handling was rough but not enough to distract from the great gameplay it offered. Real pity a sequel didn't come along as I would've loved to have seen where they could've went with it.

What do people think of the Western version of Super Mario brothers 2?

(That's as opposed to the Original Japanese Super Mario Brothers 2, or what we would call the "lost levels" off of Super Mario All Stars).

I know it's based on another Japanese game called Doki Doki Panic, that Nintendo USA basically changed a bit and threw a few Mario characters into and released as SMB2 over here, because they didn't like the difficulty of the real SMB2 and were worried about bad sales.

To me, it's not a bad platformer, but it never felt like part of the mario universe at all. Enemies, mechanics, story, everything was wrong. I'm playing through my old snes back catalogue at the moment, and i came across that one, and was like "will i bother??" whereas all the rest of the 2D series (including the lost levels) are instantly playable.

I actually love Mario 2 to be honest, i think its a great game. I know its different than the others but i find it really enjoyable to play through.

Yeah, i think that's the way i feel about it too. It's a very good platformer, i love the way some stuff like the warp zones are hidden, and some of the exits, and i like a lot of the vertical scrolling aspects, and the different choice of characters are great, but it just doesn't feel like a mario game. It doesn't feel like it belongs in the canon at all.

Also, why anyone would want to play any level as anyone but princess is beyond me. That little 2 seconds worth of floating ability is just TOO handy to bother using anyone else....

It's the game that gave us Birdo! Of course it's great!

I didn't like Mario 2 originally because I had played the all stars and GBA version of the game. It feels different to the NES one. I played the NES version and loved it though.

It feels more like a Mario game now than it used to since a lot of the elements of Mario that didn't appear in the earlier games are now making their way into the series.

It's a far, far better game than Lost Levels which feels like a crappy fan hack.

Apparently they changed some of the collision detection in 2. The jumps in the allstars version of mario 3 are supposed to be different to the original one too...??..Must give them both a whirl and compare.

On another somewhat related note, does anybody know what's different about the red map in super mario world when you complete the 96 levels?

(...apart from that it's red of course...)

Is there any effect on gameplay?

Remember the dating sim I got for the PSP where you played a girl dating male samurai? The sequel is coming to 3DS as a downloadable:

Oooh... Disney just bought Lucasfilm... wonder if Lucas Arts is part of that deal... could we get a Grim Fandango or Monkey Island movie now?

They announced Episode VII too - Revenge of the S**t

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

They'll probably just give it to Michael Bay to direct it... and it will still be a better option than George Lucas.

Why so pessimistic? The series could potentially do very well with fresh creativity behind it, & Lucas only being a creative consultant gives more control to people who might actually make a better job of it?

Do I really need to explain why :P

But yeah George Lucas swearing off directing is at least something. Fingers crossed he won't have his wicked way with it even at a less practical level.

Would be great if they could get Whedon on board. But Avengers 2 is slated for 2015 as well.

Bay has Transformers 4 due out in 2014 so hopefully that will keep him away.

Well if Lucas had announced the film, I'd be in complete agreement with you, but the notion that this is going to be automatically bad goes out the window with new people in control of it. In fact, I'm cautiously optimistic the more I read about it...

John Carter was better Star Wars movie than any of the prequels.

I thought 3 was the worst.

It would be a great move for Disney to turn around now and release the original trilogy as they were originally released but properly cleaned up on BluRay.
