You don't want to do a Capcom on it, so you should skip straight to "5th Dimension Adventures in Neo Tokyo 2: Hyper Edition"

"5th Dimension Adventures in Neo Tokyo 2: Hyper Edition Black Label"?

Johnny Hicklentons stuff is so good and a bit before his time aswell. Unfortunately a lot of amazing comic artists done get the recognition they deserve.

I'd say he might start getting more and more interest what with the new Dredd film and the whole thing about artists work after they die, poor chap was only 42 :(

Have you seen his documentary? Can view it online here. It's really heartbreaking stuff, he seemed like a great guy. Definitely worth watching though

On the whole Windows 8 thing, I'm not a fan as of yet. Really not liking the work flow of it for some reason.
It might be nice for your average consumer but I think power users will stick with Win 7 until "Windows 8: Non Sh1t Edition" is released.
Sort of related, I'm heading out to "a meeting" in the morning to have a go on the new Microsoft Surface tablet.

O1s1n, you must have had a few around where you work?
If you work where I think you work from scraps of info people have dropped here in the past.

I have been a Nemesis fan since day one, and was a particular fan of Kevin O'Neills, but the two Torquemadas stuff was out of this world.
I have had Nemesis and Torquey tee's as well as learning my drawing trade sketching the Blitzspear.
My dreams came true with Bisleys ABC Warrior series, amazing art and I was made up when Forbidden Planet sold signed prints and I got my Joey Pineapples poster, signed by Bisley himself.
I really must clean it up and get it framed some day.

But it's great we all appreciate the wonderful art of 2000ad, pity the Americans with the relatively mundane Marvel art...

And if I could mention my favourite 2000ad strips they'd be Armoured Gideon and Ballad of Halo Jones.

I don't think he's asking us to guess what it is. The game is about guessing a number.

Retr0, you need to get to grips with Adventure Game Studio so we can make a point and click game about a school girl who gets back in time and meets all the characters from Irish mythology.

On the graphical programming languages I'm way ahead of everyone else in the class. I could pretty easily knock out a full game using it or something like Game Maker right now.

I have vague recollections of making a guess the number game when bored in a computational physics class in college. I think it was in the form of a crappy version of Battleship...still a better adaptation than the film I'd bet.

Windows 8 is being released in 45 mins time....Word of advice to anyone thinking about buying it....It is without doubt the biggest piece of **** MS have ever released much worse then Vista...

Amazing. Sounds like microsoft have got it wrong yet again, right at a time of a sea change in operating system design and the way people use their hardware. This could cost them dearly. It's amazing how chequered that company's business history is and how many times theyve guaged the market wrongly over the years.

Windows 98 first edition, Windows ME, the steaming turd that was Vista, their consistent failure to back cloud computing while it was taking off everywhere else, and now it looks like Windows 8 has gotten it wrong again, right at a time when tablets and linux are going thru the roof and chomping at microsofts heels.

There are already a host of linux options that offer a better experience than 7 for no money. The Zorin distro is aimed squarely at windows 7 users and is smaller, lighter, and better than anything microsoft are selling, and jellybean and the likes that come on new tablets like the Google nexus 7 are so user friendly and easy to navigate that the tablet versions of Win8 would have had a tough time keeping up with them even if it was fantastic (which it sounds like it wont be). Why use an OS that's poor and is going to boost the price of a tablet by €50-100 at the till when theres a better option preinstalled on a better tablet for less money elsewhere?
    Sparks43 wrote: »
8 Will not last more then a year and this is the end of microsofts dominance.

    They will not be missed

Microsoft is an old dinosaur in a new market that they haven't yet adapted to properly, and a lot of people think that given how long it takes them to get major new releases out, this is their last chance to stave off a disaster the likes of apple had when they pushed out steve jobs and then became completely out of touch with the market for a decade.

New models are threatening to make the way Microsoft have worked for years outdated, but they can't change for fear of cannibalising their existing revenue streams. All the the pack-in charged OEM OS deals that are their bread and butter are what their success is built on, and changing course on a ship like that is something that takes time, and is going to make shareholders and investors very very nervous.

The kind of hardware people want to use is changing, and the software aspect of it has to change too. The charged OS tie in market they created with desktops and laptops is slowly going the way of the dodo in favour of better value for consumers, but they're still doggedly trying to hold on to their outdated revenue model while paying lip service to tablets, cloud computing, and everything else that threatens them.

It's the classic example of a company with a vested interest trying to resist a major change or a "paradigm shift" in their marketplace because they have so much invested in the old, outdated ways.

    Good luck with that.....

Well done, i hope it all works out for you with delivery etc. I know next to nothing about comics, but i love to see people getting gets for stuff that they're passionate about, and getting a great price and no hassle by leapfrogging an entire auction (and i'm sure a few snipers in the waiting) is even sweeter. Chuffed for you!! :D

Ah I was only joking, I just have a huge distaste for anything from Hong Kong...anything I've ever gotten from there was almost always cheap dirt that broke very quickly. I avoid anything on ebay from Hong Kong now. Thats just me though :)

Oh, ok. But my cheap dirt is gonna be delivered ok, right?? Phew.

Yeah I generally avoid anything from outside Europe unless I cant help it, I'll sometimes order from the states, but it's getting so likely that you get snagged for import tax now it makes ordering a lot of stuff uneconomical (stoopid public sector efficiency improvements!).

I just really wanted that particular pad as its got good reviews, and anywhere that had it was in hong kong, so I took a chance. Fingers crossed!!

Ah yeah, no hassle that way. I just found the quality of the products severely wanting. But that being said, thats just my experience many others have had no issues

Depends on what you're actually getting. If it's relatively cheap items like wiring then I've found HK fine, those JST 2 pin connectors I needed for the B&O service menu mod came from HK, relatively fast and worked fine. Suppose you can't go wrong with something that cheap.

However, if you're expecting that €10 Boker knife from DealExtreme to last any length of time, then good luck with that. :pac:

Unfortunately, all of the development fun goes on in a different building to me, the work I do is in software licensing. So there isn't really as much stuff just lying about as there would be for software devs and that. :(

My boss is meant to be getting a slate in soon though. I'm number one on the list of folks who'll be in to fiddle around with it once it arrives!

Kevin O Neill's artwork is probably the most expensive you'll see of any 2000AD artist. You're talking about 10k+ for one of his Nemesis pages  It's absolutely amazing stuff though.

The Ballad of Halo Jones is by far one of Alan Moore's greatest achievements. It's one of those stories that seriously elevates it out of the medium of 'silly comic books for kids' - American superhero rubbish just can't compare in the slightest to storytelling like that. Sci fi comics at their best.

Cheers! I can't wait to have my own, non rented place in which I can start putting it all on display. At this stage there might not be enough wall space though  (can blame a lot of that on Arnie, he's huge!)

I just ordered one of these on fleabay this evening. Cost me about €17 including 7 day shipping by airmail, but the only places that stocked it despatch it from hong kong, so i'm budgeting for a few quid on top of that in case "the man" hits me for import duty for buying from outside the EU.

Thanks for the recommendation. It looks like a really nice pad. I'll post back in a week or two with my general impressions once i've got my hands on it.

For €17 you shouldn't get hit for customs, the limit is €25 or thereabouts. Its a Buffalo Japan product with plenty of reviews online so it'll be the same pad whether it comes from HK or somewhere else. Once you bought from a reputable seller I wouldn't worry about it.

Ah, I didn't know that, your fine then in such case. Unless its a cheap knock off...but coming from Hong Kong, I doubt that ;)

On a similar note to MackDaddi's question, what's a good N64 USB adaptor? Back in the day everybody recommended the adaptoid but they stopped making it, and other ones weren't supposed to be as good. Has that changed?

Trying to decide whether to upgrade to win 8 or not while its cheap.
(basically 30 quid for the rest of the year to upgrade a machine from xp onwards to 8)
Bear in mind I've got vista on this pc , so it may actually be an improvement.
(once I stick on classic shell)

Personally, when it comes to windows and microsoft, I favour the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and "stick with what works" approaches. Having said that, vista is dire, so do switch to something else, anything would be an improvement on it. Personally I'd steer clear of 8 for now at least till the first service pack comes out. Ive had enough hassle with bugs and driver issues on new microshaft operating systems to learn never to be an early adopter with anything they bring out ever again.

I recently get rid of vista on a media centre Dualcore PC I had, and put 7 on it, didn't like it, so rolled it back to XP pro SP3. I don't care about all the graphical bells and whistles on the aero interface, I always just select the windows classic shell anyways, and I like the old task bars and so on, so for me XP is a good choice. As long as you don't need more than 3.5 to 4 gigs of ram (XP is max 4GB ram) it's still a great OS.

If you need more or if your PC is a much newer spec then I'd look at windows 7, or one of the better flavours of Linux if you don't need much in the way of hardware compatibility for printers and add on hardware and peripherals and the like.

There's a very good quiz below to help you decide which version of Linux is best for you. It asks you a bunch of simple step by step questions about your usage, level of technical ability and other stuff about how you want to use your machine, and then recommends the best versions for you and gives you links to download them.

    ah yeah
tbh I cant afford 7 and quite frankly vista is that bad that I'm biting the bullet and going with an 8 install.
Linux is a non runner for me , its great and all since this pc is used mainly for gaming and all its not viable.
