All the guys who were on the Patriots when I started following them have now retired, there's no one left.

I've been a Pats fan since the early eighties and I don't think you ever get used to seeing teams coming to an end.

Surely Brady's the only one left from the '01 Superbowl?

You are right, both Matt Light and Kevin Faulk retired this year.

Only Brady, Branch and Wilfork are left from the 2004 Superbowl against the Eagles

And they are the only 3 on the current roster that have rings (Jake Ballard is on PUP will probably end up on IR):eek: our team is so young and hopefully hungry for sucess.

Also only 5 of our current staff have rings; Belichick, Fears, Patricia, Scarnecchia, Johnson

+1 to Eli's, Davy's and EE's comments on Coach closing his account.:(

Sad to see a good poster leaving the forum but I was chatting to TO and he had his legit reasons for closing the account and leaving boards. And just so everyone knows it was nothing against any other posters or anything like that. It was just simply one of those things that happens from time to time.

To echo this I have been fortunate enough to be given a chance to work in a job related to the game in the US starting Fall 2013 and the job has strict policies on public forums and what their staff say on said forums.

As I get into a lot of scrapes on here I don't want to endanger said chance before it even happens. It will be tough not debating and getting into banter here but I am going to leave this account open just in case and in the event come fall next year I can chat on here the odd time and refrain from calling folk out I will :D Also I will continue with Fantasy football.

I may also pop in and answer rule related stuff and the mechanics of the game but I will have to take a large step back to prevent making a tit of myself as usual.

Since the door is ajar:D....open to anyone who can help.

I don't think the 12 men on the field rule makes a bit of common sense as it is currently applied.

12 men in the offensive huddle: penalty.
Huge defensive lineman lumbering off the field but still has one foot on the field when the ball is put in play: penalty.

Just makes no sense to me. Curious if there is a genesis to this rather ridiculous rule.

It does look crazy at times, but players in the past as part of strategy have made it look like they were leaving and getting substituted out. Only for them to make a quick repostion and take part in a play. With 12 players on the pitch, the opponent has to account for an extra man and has a huge competitive disadvantage.

So when a player has been substituted out and lingers on the pitch. The NFL views these lingering players as behaving with unsportsmanlike conduct. It might look silly on TV, but I can understand the NFL's logic for not tolerating it. Especially in the mind games and game of chess world that American Football is.

We are so fortunate to be in the AFC.

Could you imagine this "defence" having to face the likes of Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Eli Manning or Matt Stafford multiple times a season?

Not that it matters, when we're allowing the likes of Jake Locker and Russell Wilson to look like Steve Young.

Yeah but you'd also get to face Vick which would pad the cb's stats nicely...

poor from your lot today but tbf you played muck and it was still a tight game. You'll be there or there abouts as usual, as much as it pains me.

These matches are good for the patriots. They need to be battle hardened when they come up against the NFC champs in the Superbowl whether that be Green Bay, my beloved Giants or the 49ners. Although a resurgent Steelers could cause a few problems in a AFC championship game.

We were awful everywhere, coaching included.

Offense was shocking and Brady is the man to blame unfortunately for the loss. Over thrown/under thrown, wildly inaccurate passes. The 2 ints were from badly thrown balls. We had multiple chances to put the game away on offense and we couldn't do it. The debacle at the end of the first half was mostly Brady's fault. The Oline did a fantastic job against a great pass rush, Brady was only sacked once all game and he could do nothing with it. On any other day for the final drive when we had 1:18 and only needed 60 yards to put us in FG range, my money would have been on Brady...but FFS we couldnt even get one 1st down on 4 attempts, just awful. Brady had the most passing attempts of his career and very little pressure and we only scored 23 points, i think that sums up how bad his passing was.

Defense was good for most of the game and caused turnovers which the offense couldn't capitalise on. The Seahawks had multiple 3 and outs and i dont think they had a 1st down in the 3rd qtr. A great rushing team was neutralised on the ground. But sh1t hit the fan when the secondary and mostly the safeties were exposed on the deep ball. Our pass rush was undisciplined at times letting Wilson get out of the pocket on multiple occasions.

We have the talent in nearly every position on the field (except in the 2ndary) to be a great team but our mental toughness is sh1te at the moment and it started with Brady and tickled down from there. I have no doubt we'll bounce back and beat the Jets next Sunday and make the playoffs but after that, against good teams, I'm not very confident.

On a side note, Peter King is a twat. Reading his MMQB today, he is all over the Pats loss while the week before in the Brady/Manning battle (which he is normally super wet for) all he has is a tiny tidbit on the last page...he's a disgrace to be from Mass and he can stick his anti Pats/Belichick bias up his hole...dickhead

I think you took that out of context. As in if the Steelers make a resurgent effort they can cause problems for the Pats. On the basis on the opening six weeks you could not suggest they had made a resurgent effort to get back on top of the AFC yet the season is only young.

If your a Chargers fan than yes maybe you can justifably claim to be the biggest threat to the Patriots in a playoff type game. Im think Houston are a nice team but when you come up against seasoned pros like they did last night then its a whole different ball game. Baltimore are a typical AFC semi finalist team but the NFC is dog eat dog so its not disrepectful to suggest the Pats have an easier route to a Superbowl than the 49ners, The Big Bad Giants, Packers. Atlanta are going well but do you really think that sort of team has the knowhow to beat one of the big dogs in a championship type of game. My answer is no thats why I write off the Texans and Ravens although the Ravens have more substance than the Texans I feel.

Lots of talk on WEEI about NE's drafts of DB's over the last few years, here is a look at the last 10.

    2003:
    Eugene Wilson
    Asante Samuel

    2004:
    Gus Scott
    Dexter Reid
    Christian Morton

    2005:
    Ellis Hobbs

    2006:
    Willie Andrews

    2007:
    Brandon Meriweather
    Mike Richardson

    2008:
    Terrence Wheatley
    Jonathan Wilhite
    Mattehew Slater

    2009:
    Pat Chung
    Darius Butler

    2010:
    Devin McCourty

    2011
    Ras-I Dowling
    Malcolm Williams

Lots of guys still contributing on other teams around the league but by and large the DB's we have drafted have been bad. Mc Courty was immense in his first year but has regressed something awful. I think that it has been more coaching than drafting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

Was Slater initially drafted as a receiver?

Slater started as CB and did some work at FS then, its only in the last two seasons he has been classified as a WR.

A bit unfair to classify him as anything but a special teams player.

Brady owns the Chargers and they're not even that good anymore. It was Manning's Colts they owned and beat twice in the playoffs, if that's what you're thinking.

Chandler Jones for defensive rookie of the year. He's been terrific.

Finally got to look at Sunday's game, fúck me. Almost lost for words with the performance, they could have put the Seahawks away so many times it was ridiculous. The continuing inability to close out games is very worrying. Even more frustrating when they lost 3 games by a combined total of 4 points.

Very annoying when you see the D line make some key plays and then watch the offense squander the opportunity. The secondary is beyond poor at this stage. They are just not delivering, if they're not breaking up a play they're giving up a key penalty against us. I expect to see a few of these guys to start packing their bags at the end of the season.

Aside from hoping to draft some quality next April, we really need to sign up some experienced defensive hawks, to cover our asses in the secondary. I just hope if an opportunity arises that money is not a stumbling block. I think most of us were realistic about the question marks hanging over the secondary at the start of the season. I don't know about the rest of you, but like last season, I expected the Pats awesome offensive to deliver this season and make up for our defensive weakness.

I never expected the stuttering offense I have seen at times this season. Or an offense that would repeatedly fail to make plays at key moments in a game. That's the biggest worry for me. My biggest concern at the start of the season was the O line, but they have done a good job. No surprise that Coach Scarnecchia's has been clearly working his magic with them.

Positives from Sunday's game, Welker is the toughest little fúcker in the NFL, some of the hits he took were just savage. Woodhead continues to make keys plays and continues to make me eat humble pie after I gave out about him a few weeks ago. Lloyd is catching balls that defy the laws of physics. Great to have Hernandez back and Gostkowski seems to have his kicking boots back on again which is a relief. Jones will be the defensive rookie of the year and I hope Hightower can get back soon.

A very unBrady like performance on Sunday, but I think the savage hit he took in the third quarter might have had an effect. He took a savage helmet first hit under the chin by Jason Jones. He didn't get up straight away and he looked fairly shook. I know Brady denied it had any effect on him later, but he's a classy guy and that's what he does.

But the stats suggest otherwise, before he took that hit in the first three quarters, Brady was 31-for-45 with two touchdowns. After he took the hit, he was 5-for-13 with two interceptions and one intentional grounding call. Again I know he said it had no effect, but I don't swallow it. In the current climate players are naturally quick to play down these hits and the effect it might have.

This team, especially the offense needs to find consistency. 6 games in and I'm still not seeing it. So if the Jets don't motivate them to wake up next Sunday, then I don't know what will.

Rex Ryan has been talking up the Pats defence all week - its like the kiss of death :D

Shonn Greene's performance against the colts was amazing, but there is no chance that the jets will be able to run on the Patriots D-line. Vince has been the best defensive player on the team for a long time now, its a pity that Haynesworth turned out to be a lazy animal - those two would have made an amazing base to build the defence off.

As bad as the DB's are, Sanchez threw for 82 yards against the colts. I'd say we could be seeing more Tebow this week than the last few games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,370 ✭✭✭✭Son Of A Vidic

We all know Ryan speaks outta both sides of his mouth, so I tend to switch off when he yaps tbh. I think Haynesworth sealed his fate when he squared up with our linebacker coach Pepper Johnson. But if any secondary is gonna make Sanchez or Tebow look good, it will probably be ours unfortunately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 Mike912

Great post CM, looked but couldn't find anything to disagree with (big Woodhead fan here). Feel kind of like the rug's been pulled out once again over this whole secondary issue. It's almost too much to take.

Didn't notice the hit on Brady. It sure explains his middling performance late in the game.

Here's hoping for a trouncing of the Jesters on Sunday.

Here's some stills of the hit on Brady that might interest you.

Brady throws a completed pass to Woodhead and he hasn't even got the ball. Look at Jason Jones (number 90) coming at him. Moving at speed in a lower strike position than Brady. He strikes Brady head first in an upward motion.

    brady_1_blog480.jpg

Bang!!! He hits Brady helmet first to the chin/cheek area of the head. You see it better in the live footage but it was a savage upward moving power strike. A chicken shít hit on a defenseless QB.

    brady_2_blog480_1.jpg

Brady is clearly reeling here and who fecking wouldn't be.

    brady_3_blog480_1.jpg

Flat on the ground with a thrown penalty flag lying beside him. He lay like this for several seconds. He eventually rose to one knee and stayed like that for maybe another 6-7 seconds.

    brady4.jpg

Brady is a tough nut though and he totally denied this affected him. Yet the stats that I mentioned in my earlier post, clearly showed that his performance was totally different after the hit.

Brady before the hit:31-for-45 (68.8% completion) with two touchdowns.

Brady after the hit: 5-for-13 (38.4% completion rate) for 81 yards.

I was just logging in to here after the Jets TD about how we haven't got a chance, our defense is atrocious, if the offence play anything like they have the past couple of weeks we're screwed.
