Unusual in that it would spend more time in the pits than on the track?

    :pac:

How would that be unusual for an Alfa? :pac:

tracking down a coin pusher is proving seriously difficult. could get one from china but it could take a month. rang various companies in the uk and it seems they are all supplied from the same people, who are out of stock. seen one unused for sale on adverts in ireland last year where it was withdrawn from sale and you cant comment on the add or contact the seller without making an offer and you cant make an offer because the add is withdrawn...

i wouldn't mind but its only a toy.

Mine has done 1800km the last two weeks with the same 1.6 engine. Hasn't missed a beat either. Struggles a little at motorway speeds but the engine is just loud at any revs tbh.

The sound when floored in 2nd is just delicious. Not massively fast but it's such a pleasant way of getting up to speed. :) I love my car...

I'd be asking questions if it couldn't do 1800km on the same engine :pac::pac::pac:

Lads, seriously need your help. Drove to UCD today and couldn't find parking. I ended up being clamped. I was clamped by the NCPS. Harking back to Garys epic thread about private clamping, is there anything I can do? I really don't have the €80 release fee. Please advise!

Cut it off. I've a socket set + basic tools in the back of the car in UCD, but I don't know how much use I'll be at to removing it.

Where about are you parked exactly?

I'm parked over near the centra in the car park beside it. It's the red Alfa that's been clamped!

    Cheers lads really appreciate it!

Is there CCTV in this centra car park?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,313 ✭✭✭Mycroft H

Probably would be, it's beside a residences entrance. Isolated car parks you would have a chance but it's a high traffic area.

Do you have axle stands + jack 166? I'm not round for a few hours (lab) but if your still stuck then.

It's not a centra car park it's just across the road, fairly sure there's no CCTV. Is there anything that I can do RE the legality of the clamp?

You could have a look at removing it without damaging it. You could try call the Gardai and try get it removed through the Road Traffic Act 1961
Unauthorised interference with mechanism of vehicle.

113.—(1) A person shall not, without lawful authority or reasonable cause, interfere or attempt to interfere with the mechanism of a mechanically propelled vehicle while it is stationary in a public place, or get on or into or attempt to get on or into the vehicle while it is so stationary.

    (2) A person who contravenes subsection (1) of this section shall be guilty of an offence.

    (3) Where a member of the Garda Síochána has reasonable grounds for believing that a person is committing an offence under this section, he may arrest the person without warrant.

    (4) This section shall not apply to a person taking, in relation to a mechanically propelled vehicle which is obstructing his lawful ingress or egress to or from any place, such steps as are reasonably necessary to move the vehicle by human propulsion for a distance sufficient to terminate the obstruction.

    (5) Where a person is charged with an offence under this section, it shall be a good defence to the charge for him to show that, when he did the act alleged to constitute the offence, he believed, and had reasonable grounds for believing, that he had lawful authority for doing that act.

Is it the gravel car park near the lights? Did you accidentally park in the pay section (they're really poorly marked as to the pay section and the free section)

Sue them and see how you get on would be the only way to go in that direction. AGS won't get involved unless the clamp is damaged.

My concern would be with the line:

"A person shall not, without lawful authority or reasonable cause, interfere or attempt to interfere with the mechanism of a mechanically propelled vehicle while it is stationary in a public place, or get on or into or attempt to get on or into the vehicle while it is so stationary."

Technically, it's not a public place.

    “public place” means any street, road or other place to which the public have access with vehicles whether as of right or by permission and whether subject to or free of charge;

    RTA 1961 definitions :D

So what should I do? Should I ring them? I'm not really in a position to sue and would need the car back ASAP...

    Thanks fella's appreciate it..:)

Well 166, I had a quick look at the car there, you weren't there. They seem to have lopped the chain through the lower suspension arm rather then a droplink. I don't think I've the tools with me to remove that as it's a bit more difficult to remove.

    Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for trying anyone. It's just the thought of paying €80 is just making my blood boil...

Can someone clarify the legality of the situation? Maybe I should PM Gary and get him and his van down here...:D

I jacked the car up while I was there and I think the chain was wrapped around the steering arm although I wasn't too sure. It started feckin' raining too so the flask of tae would have been welcome!

I was waiting in the car wondering what to do and the NCPS van drove around. Two ignorant fellas of the highest order knocked on my window asking me was I paying by cash or card. I tried to question the legality of the whole situation and swiftly got told where to go. After a bit of questioning and not getting a reply I paid the €85 fine. It killed me handing over the money. :(

Still though, every cloud and all that, because as they drove around they spotted some car in the pay and display area whose time disc had expired so they pulled up and got out ready to clamp it I assumed.

I legged it over to the machine and threw €2 in. Gave whoever owned the car another 4 hours parking, attached it to the windscreen and took a photo. The face on the NCPS's guys face when he came back and saw it was priceless.. :D
