Minimum age to shoot at a range

Guys,

Is there a minimum age to shoot at a shooting range. My son is very interested in getting into clay shooting, he's only 9.

He has gone clay shooting with me before and used a 410 shotgun.

We just rented the gun.

Is this legal?

AFAIK there is no legal age restriction for using a firearm on a range. It's covered under Section 2(4)(d). However ranges may impose age limits themselves for insurance, competence reasons, etc.

Just confirmed the above with one addendum.

A range may have it's authorisation based on all shooters having firearms licenses. For this reason a person must have a license in order to shoot. That is on a range to range basis. So best option is to ring before traveling.

Condition listed in Range Authorisation:

"No persons under 14 years of age shall be permitted to handle or use any firearm or enter the confines of the range at any time"

But that's a restriction on that specific range rather than it being a legal restriction on ranges in general, if you know what I mean.
