    Hi guys,

Just want to ask about the USB Wifi Dongle.

So I have the UPC Cisco router downstairs. If I put the Ariva 150 in an upstairs bedroom and plug in the Wifi Dongle, will this connect the box to the internet please and thank you.

    Regards

    Iba

Just fitted ferguson wifi dongle(w02) to ferguson 150 combo and while it recognises the local wifi it will not connect. Any suggestions?

Can you connect to the wifi with an ordinary laptop? Is a password needed (you may only have entered it once years ago)
If you have the password and it works for other devices try converting the text password to hex or vice versa. Some very old routers and laptops only display one type while the others need the opposite values entered. Can you turn off all wireless security on the router and try connect again?
If unsure post make and model of your home router and the name of your internet provider.

Received a flyer through the door this morning from Co-Op superstores, they're selling the Ariva150 for 99.99 euro.
I don't work for them and I'm in no way affiliated with them.

Thanks for the reply. Internet provider and router by eircom. Several items already successfully connected to this wifi - laptops, iPad, phones, etc. Which makes me suspect something not correct in the Ferguson 150. Yes there is a WPA Key (which is possibly in hex) which was entered during attempts to connect Ferguson 150 to net. Will survive without Internet connection however the facility is supposed to be there. Thanks again.

If it's an Eircom router then visit this page:
    http://192.168.1.254

Then disable the security for the wireless. Then try connect.

Make sure to re-enable the password afterwards as it stops people using your bandwidth and also stops people from being able to see what website you visit etc.

Yes there were stacks of them at CoOp in Midleton this morning, with the 2 pin to 3 pin adapter taped to each box.

this email address is not valid.
I sent mail on sales@satboxes.com, but I got notification: Delivery to the following recipients failed.
    I don't know why?

I have a Ferguson ariva 150. I have all the channels setup working as intended.

I have the box connected via ethernet cable and dailymotion/google maps are working fine. I get an ip address and all the gateway infrormation etc is working fine.

The problem I have is with Youtube. When I click on a video it tried to connect but comes back 'Connection Failed'.

Is there any network settings I am missing?

I haven't touched the DDNS settings. Could this be the problem?

    Thanks.

    Hi

I was coming on to the forum to ask the same question.

This actually was working fine (ie Youtube) 2 weeks ago when i connected
    directly to ethernet

I got a couple of the Wi Fi dongles from ebay ( 3-4 euro) and was testing the operation and am seeing the same message when playing youtube (ie connection failed) daily motion is working fine.

tried connecting directly and same error, tried on another box and same error.

Leads me to think its not related to Ariva unit ??????

I also have same problem with youtube connection failed but daily motion fine. Am connected with ethernet cable through a powerline adapter. Strange, I think it worked few weeks ago also. With youtube I can search for clips, see the thumbnail images immediately, but connection failed when I try to play them. Anybody have an ideas on this? Thanks.

Hi does the ariva 250 combo play .avi.
I have upgraded the firmware but still no luck
Is there a way I can download latest codecs to the media player.
    Thanks
Hi Thanks for all the replies to this but just thought i'd post this in embarassment.
I just noticed tonight that within Media player there are menus on within for audio Photos etc.
one of theses is video and guess what! yes you do need to select it to view your avi/mpg.
Just in case there are any others out there like me this will save the hassle of trying to convert to fit or just RTFM.
    Thanks

    Hi,

i have an Ariva 150 all set up and working fine except i cant figure out how to use the timer record function....

The way i do it is to go into the guide, hit the green button and set up my recording there, hit save. All seems well - when i go to the the REC menu item, then view Timer Settings, my recording is listed here. When the recording is due to start, I get a message something like "Event started/notified". I wait for the recording to end, check my PVR and there is nothing recorded. Nothing is listed. I can play .avi files no problem.

I'm sure i'm missing out something simple! Has anyone else had this??

Are you sure you are actually setting it to record or just a reminder? Although I'm not familiar with this box, I know some offer the two options reminder (notification) or record.

Well I got it sorted, as Gerry said above - the default action when setting up an "event" is not record, so just use the right/left arrows to change this to record and up she flew...

Just to mention there is a new firmware available. Below is a quick translation of what it is supposed to fix.
    Autumn news and updates

    New software is available for receivers 1.20B1 Ariva 52E, 102mini, 102E, 150Combo, 202E and 250Combo.
The new system software version introduces many improvements and bug fixes reported by users so far. We recommend that you upgrade to the new version, and then restore the factory settings in order to "clean up" the receiver settings.
Note: With this update, it is recommended to format the disk / memory or delete all the directories created by the receiver in order to avoid possible errors related changes.

The most important change, which includes a version 1.20B1 include:
    • Added support for service Vimeo - it is the third largest video site, which provide users with Ariva receivers.
    • completely rebuilt the "entertainment"
    • updated API access to YouTube and YouPorn
    • added support for audio container *. m4a (AAC encoding only)
    • further improve the operation of timers
    • database update transponders (mostly Astra 19.2 E)
    • and other
Note 1: Due to the ongoing changes in the Google Weather forecast online may not be available from the receiver.

Note 2: is ongoing work on further improvements of the models Combo timers.

I've had my Ariva 150 box for around 2months now. It has recently started to freeze while changing channels - this is happening probably around once a week - does this happen to anyone else?

Also if recording to an external hard drive, what would be the average file size of an hour long program?

    thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭PatchZ

When you say freeze do you mean the box locks up completely? And to free it up do you have to reboot?
One thing to try is to remove your external harddrive to see if that is the source of the problem. If so connect it (harddrive) to a PC and run a chkdsk on it to make sure there are no errors on it.
I use an external USB key for record that is just slightly below recommended write times and found it slows the channel changing if I have timeshift enabled. I just disabled the timeshift and rely on record if needed. But I found a bug that means when I hit the stop button (either playing or recording) the HDMI drops out and reverts to the TV. Not sure if it is a TV issue or an ariva issue. Just curious if anyone else has seen this?

Yep, it locks up completely...can't do anything. To solve the problem i've just been switching it off at the power point - how do you reboot?

I have had a 2g usb plugged into the back - i'll take that out & see if that fixes it. Not sure about the rest of what you are talking about.

How much space would a 1hr show take up? I do have a 500g exterrnal hardeive, nbut just wondering as i haven't recorded anything yet.

Allow roughly 4gigs per hour of HD.

Do you mean that you had an external hard disk AND a usb key plugged in at the same time? As I remember it you can only use one usb port at a time.
