The 120 will play .avi files.

I believe the 120 will play H.264/MPEG-4 part 10 (AVC) encoded video files which is what is currently used to encode high definition video files in the majority of cases.

It will not play MPEG-4 Part 2 (MPEG-4 Visual) video files with is/was the standard used to encoded standard definition video files in the majority of cases, the DIVX/XVID format.

Since the majority of my collection are TV shows that uses the MPEG-4 Part 2/DIVX, XVID codec the Ferguson 120 will not play them (I have a 120 and I have confirmed that this is the case)

It looks like the Ferguson 150 will play both MPEG-4 part 10 and MPEG-4 Part 2 encoded video files.

I believe most peoples collections (apart from the more recent stuff) will be MPEG-4 Part 2/DIVX,XVID and so the 120 will not play the files.

Yes all of this is true.

If you have a large collection of XVID/DIVX films then you need the Ferguson 150.

Sorry I cannot answer that here as direct commercial interaction is not allowed.

Hi does the ariva 250 combo play .avi.
I have upgraded the firmware but still no luck
Is there a way I can download latest codecs to the media player.
    Thanks

.avi is the wrapper format which can contain video with various encoding types. Check what the video is encoded with against the list of playable codecs in the manual.

You could recode the video to make it playable ....... time consuming ....

    Thanks for that

The 120's couldnt play XVID/Divx recordings due to licensing.

The 150/250 range plays practically everything. Including Divx/Xvid/MKV/MP4/H264 encodings no matter what the wrapper.

@szn80 Try it in VLC and check under media information what the video format is. Probably some obscure realtime codec.

Hi, Hoping someone can answer my query. Will this box accept a channel list from the 120? I mean can i somehow get my list for the 120 which is extensive btw onto this box (if I choose to get it) without it dying on me? It's just that i have 3 satellites using diseq switch and was a pain using the ariva editor to compile all the channels.

Also does anybody know if this latest box has solved the problem of after a recording, the radio channels disappear? Although i think that might have something to do with the ariva not liking the diseq switch.

Bought 150 from soundstore in Cork today. Plenty in stock, €120
One annoying thing is t came with 2 pin plug, so the usual bit of wiggling to power up.
It's my first non sky box so I found it complicated enough.
I think I must have added all the satellites currently in orbit when I scanned :)
    3 queries:
1: When I am on channel list, 4 options on screen: grey, red, green, yellow and blue buttons.
Grey is the Fav button, which I assume lets you add it to a list of favourites. Confusing thing is
there are only 4 colours on the remote, no grey. Any solutions or am I being extra thick?
2: What satellites do you recommend I keep? Astras only?
3: Lots of channels scrambled. I have a sky account currently but that is reason
I bought box. Not interested in movies etc but are channels like sky1, comedy central etc always scrambled?
(think I should have dome some research before I bought )
    Thanks for any help

    Hi,

1 - The 'Grey' Button you refer to should say 'FAV' and be near the coloured buttons.

2 - Astra and Eurobird at 28E for english channels (Unless your using another Satellite with a Diseq Switch then just select whichever one it is)

3 - Yes them channels are scrambled you will need a sky card to watch them. If you do a blind scan with the 'FTA Only' option selected, you will get all the free channels currently available to you.

They did not give you a 3 pin adapter ?

Thanks for that help gents, found the "hidden" fav button and figured it.
Not quite as frustrated as I was earlier. Connected lan cable to modem and
it can use the (very) limited web

Tony, no adaptor was supplied with it. I could go and ask for one tomorrow,
but it's just another adaptor to lie around...

yo, muskymagic here, I have just installed my 2nd 150 combo ,I have got an issue with the terestrial signal. MY horizon meter gives me a marginal signal, which is usually ok.At the box i am getting sig intensity 70% sig quality 95%.My rtes have been glitchyThe desperate housewife (desperate to get the job done) has pointed this out, I told her to have a look at her samsung tv when this happens. She did, no glitches on the tv,just the combo box. Just for the fun of it, I replaced the combo box with a scart type mpeg4 box - again no glitches. Do you think the power supply in these boxes is a bit weak?(this used to be an issue with some of the cheaper sat boxes, I always used technomate boxes)

i hope we dont get an "a5h" type problem with these !!!!

    cheers

Like Tony said, do not attempt to do it. It shouldn't let you. If it did you would brick the box and have to recover it with a null modem cable.

I posted a Channel list a few pages back, but its Astra 2 (v1.18B6).

I also have another channel list for the 150 with Astra 1(19.2) Astra 2(28.2) Eurobird (28.5) and Hotbird (13) which I can stick up (Its based on v1.18B6p. If you have a firmware version after that it is no good.

The Signal I/Q on STB meters is not entirely reliable. If you press the edit button on the Ariva whilst on a Saorview station it will give you a BER reading. It might be for eg. 0 10e-8. If the numbers before the 10e is fluctuating the signal coming in is not stable. What type aerial is being used ?

You should definitely use an adapter and make sure it fits neatly and strongly. Cheap adapters do not have a fuse (they should have) and may give a bad connection making a fire hazard.

Do not just push the round pins into an ordinary socket. They may make a bad connection and start a fire. It will also not be fused like is required in Ireland (fusing is different and lower in Europe)

It's a legal requirement they provide it fitted. A proper plugtop is better.

Sorry to back-peddle here but I have the same problem as tom_in_cork - I just cant find the FAV button at all....I can see the button beneath the blue button says FAV but pressing it does nothing - i'm trying to add a channel to a favourites group. Can you tell me exactly what button on the 150's remote control is the FAV button please?! I have done this many times on a 120 with no problems.

I think I will call in to Power Store today and get an adaptor then. Thanks.

Re Fav button, when you have selected channel list and see the 5 buttons at top of screen, you click on the (hidden) FAV button and will see the grey box then has a tick in it. You then scroll down to the channels you are adding and press the large OK button and you will see a little heart appear, which indicates you have added that channel. Repeat for other channels.
This was after trial and error and much frustration that I must be getting stupid in my older age, so I am glad it wasn't just me :)

I just setup my Ariva 150. Can someone please tell me how to add/remove from the Entertainment list?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 798 ✭✭✭szn80

go to home button --> tv channel list.
hit the blue button "edit" and then blue again "delete" scroll through channels hitting centre button "ok" to apply delete function to the channel with an X marked .when finished hit return button "delete unticked now" and save changes.
to add channels dearch the sattelites - cant see how you add individual programmes within this though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭mossey79

Thanks but thats the channel list. I'm looking to add/remove from the Entertainment list, where YouTube, Google Maps are located. Any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 tom_in_cork

Also, is there any way to see list of what is on next on the 150 or is it limited to what is on and next programme only?
If that's all I get to see I think I will sell this on ebay and buy a better unit,

You'll only get now & next on the satellite channels. Your best bet for a proper epg on satellite is a Freesat box or even an out of subscription Sky box, but you won't get the Irish channels with those.
