    Did you scream? :D

It was more of a dignified yelp which was greeted with bemusement by a large group of Mayo supporters who had their back to the tv!

Ah, we all approach fandom in our own way. Some get behind the team in a crisis but point out their flaws when all is apparently rosy.

I'm personally an ultra-positive. Not always realistic though.

Every team has their flaws man, we are working under more constraints than the 3 teams above us in the league, so anything over fourth is a bonus, especially after losing two regulars from previous years, that's realistic.;)
We won't win the league IMO, but I sure hope we try.

No other team in the league so far has played better stuff than us. Early days to talk about title contenders but we are definitely in the mix. Our squad is much more meatier this time around, keep the rotations going when we can and keep injuries low and it's hard not to get excited.

My one wish is for Giroud to get off the mark, the lad needs a goal badly

I applaud your optimism and confidence, I will wait until I see more before I really believe it, but I was happy enough with how the team do this year based on what Wenger has done by shipping out players who weren't fully committed, brought in some fantastic mature talent and with what Bould has done from the ground up.
I do feel any team will be worried having to play us home or away.:)

I'd like to see him start against Coventry for this reason.

Anyone know if that match is on TV at all? I know sky aren't showing it.

Don't think we'll win the league but if Szczesny returns to his best form, Giroud starts scoring, and Wilshere can carry on from where he left off; then anything is possible.

This is undoubtedly a much better team than last season in term of its all round game, but the missing piece at present is a forward who we know can bag us 20 goals a season. Gervinho ain't the answer, I believe Giroud will come good; the only question is when? In the meantime, I've always been curious to see how Walcott would do in the central striker position....

Don't think it's on tv... I agree it would be a nice one for him to bag a goal in.

We'll not see much of him so! Wenger has form here; Edu spent pretty much the entire season on the bench back in 2005 in very similar circumstances.

If Giroud starts against Coventry then I'd like to see Theo given a chance to play up front against Chelsea. Say what you want about him, but over the past two seasons he's played brilliantly against Chelsea imo.

He agrees. Wonder how Wenger will react to this. Sick of Theo and all his sh1te talk, it's about time he started walking the walk or else fcuk off.

I don't like Walcott at all BUT I agree that he should start against Chelsea. I believe that there are "horses for courses" and Walcott does indeed play well against Chelsea. We need a good confident team and I think we are good enough to beat Chelsea.

AVB was very generous with Walcott last season at Stamford Bridge with playing such a high defensive line. Will RDM be as generous.

I dont understand the logic in some people saying walcott should automatically start the game against chelsea because he has played well against them in the past. The current side is playing well and everyone in there deserves to be there on merit. He has to earn his place back in the side and maybe demonstrate why he thinks he is worth 100k a week

I'm not liking the medias angle that Walcott is been frozen out
If he signs a shiny new contract next week would he start every game
In this new system not a hope

Theo is best used as an impact sub and the sooner he acknowledges that he isn't the second coming of Christ the better.

To me Walcott embodies what was wrong with our former set up. He believes he deserves a chance as a striker even though he hasn't developed himself well enough to make a final pass. What a joke. He has had all of last season to cement his winger spot and he hasn't managed to do that as he let so many games pass him by with mediocre performances showing a lack of leadership and guts. Even his Chelsea performance at the emirates last season, he was rubbish in the first half, it was only the second half that we saw any product from him. You can say what you like about Gervinho yesterday but at least he keeps trying. His day in the sun will come if he keeps up his work rate as he has surprised with so far this season.

I just think it's funny that Walcott thinks he will be the focal point of this team without any credible evidence from recent performances to back it up. I can just imagine Cazorla putting it all on a plate for the man and then have a procession of sliced balls being produced by wally.

Give the role to Gerv, Pod or Giroud. At least they are not spouting juvenile rubbish of where they think they should play and are happy to be contributing to AFC in whatever way the club sees fit.

Sorry, was away all weekend. Here's the tally.

    Gervinho 3 (2)
    Podolski 3 (2)
    Mr. Owen Goal 2 (2)
    Koscielny 1 (1)
    Cazorla 1 (1)
    Walcott 1 (1)

    * league goals in brackets

Just had that very conversation with my dad earlier today. he's like the anti-Arshavin; not all that skillful, but damnit at least you know you're gonna get 100% from him.

I think he is brilliant at making just enough room to have a shot or to cross a decent ball. He just needs to compose himself in those moments and he will be on another level. He looks hungry this season, it's refreshing to see. I couldn't believe my eyes yesterday when I saw him in the LB position winning the ball back for us, it was excellent.

In fairness to theo finishing is one of his main strong points so perhaps he's worth a shot up top the odd time if he can get the sort of chances Gervinho ha bbeen getting.

Still he shouldn't really be moaning about not being a main stay until he starts putting in consistently competent all round performances

If you could combine him with someone like eduardos finishing he would be lethal

Chamakh hit the ground running and has been a flop. I think Giroud will come good too, it'll just take time. Not every player from a different league slots into the PL as easily as Podolski and Hazard has at Chelsea.

As for the GK position, this might be controversial but I'd keep Mannone there over Szcezny. He's earned the right to be there and we've done well with him so far.

Walcott will have to earn his place in the squad and as he thinks that place is Striker, he will have to try harder than what we've seen in the past.

In the last 33 PL games between Chelsea & Arsenal, Arsenal's record with Drogba playing is W1 D3 L7, while without him it is W13 D9 L0. -Orbinho

    Glad he's in China.

But weren't most of those without Drogba matches from before he signed for the club and before they were genuine contenders?

Without Drogba is before Roman Abramovich take over isn't it. Not surprising considering before the take over Chelsea were a mid table team (or better than midtable but not top team) and Arsenal were quality team.
