Yeah, I know. I'm not so much defending my view as explaining where I'm coming from. Some friends of mine who are big RD fans are talking about running a marathon on it, and I might join 'em.

Really though, the way they tell if the books are the essential stuff.

I've read the book, they're as hilarious as the show for sure. But it's impossible to not enjoy Red Dwarf because your not up on the backstory, its only meant to be loosely consistent.

Re-watch it with them if you can, if after that your still not a fan then at least you tried :)

I'm guessing no amount of cash would be able to erase from your memory the sight of retr0 in an apron and not much else! :pac:

Ciderman - no probs if this post needs to be deleted incase it causes involuntary vomitting among the viewership. :D

Great article hear about the cross over of talent between the Anime and Videogame industry. You'll be surprised where many famous anime directors and games developers got their start:

Microsoft renew trademark for Killer Instinct.

    http://www.destructoid.com/microsoft-renews-trademark-for-killer-instinct-235169.phtml
There's nothing quite like the possibility of a series revival to get the Internet hype machine rolling. Killer Instinct is one of those properties that people have been wondering about for a long time now. On the website PlayXBLA, Microsoft has made an announcement:

With all due respect to our friends in the media who like to frequent trademark sites, we thought we’d break this one ourselves. :)

Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: "We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions."

If anything at all, I suspect a port to Xbox Live Arcade is what would probably come to fruition. A full-fledged, numbered follow-up game doesn't seem very likely at all, I'm sorry to say. But that's premature -- let's hope something comes out of this unusual announcement.

Let the aimless, baseless speculation commence.

Ugh. More rehashed mindless reboots that are inferior to their predecessors. Not that KI was too good to begin with mind...

With SF4AE, Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter 5 and absolutely delicious King of Fighters XIII and a host of other contenders out Killer Instinct really needs to do a lot to stand from the crowd. I'd say most of it's target audience is already playing the surprisingly great MK9. And yes, outside of the silly combos and nice graphics KI was a very poor fighter.

Who knows? They could be making a HD port, like they did with the original Perfect Dark.

So, suck ass fighting games, Red Dwarf and visions of Retr0 cooking in the nip, looks like this forum has got back on track!

    Thank the maker!

Otherwise I was going to have to nuke the whole thing from orbit....

Yeah, that was a great reminder of how badly aged that game is, just like a HD port of KI would be. I doubt they will go that route since it would mean reanimated all the character and background animation in CG.

It's the only way to be sure.

Oh I'm sure it will have HD at the end of it, that'll make it good

Odd. I played Perfect Dark for the first time in its HD form a year or two ago, and I somewhat prefer it to most shooters of today. It's a shame that its online community had to die so quickly. Once again, matchmaking had to ruin it.

In terms of multiplayer it was a fun throw back to the old style FPS games like Unreal or Quake 3 which I much prefer to the likes of Call of Duty and it's millions of imitators. Not as good as those games though. Single player however was pretty naff. It starts off ok with some decent level design but quickly nose dives until you save Elvis the alien and it's pretty awful from then on out.

I do agree that the single player in itself is dated, but the amount of content it offered is still more than most shooters even bother with, today. Stuff like counter ops and objectives that changed depending on difficulty are things that you don't see often in other games. Also, laptop gun.

Counter Ops was quite unique but never thought it worked that well. As for the multiplayer, I've no real interest in it, I did my time on multiplayer FPS games back in the late 90's/early 00's and it put me off it for good, I'd rather play multiplayer with friends. Back when Perfect Dark was released stuff like the laptop gun, objectives that change with difficulty and it's multiplayer were all done better in PC games at the time.

I guess the N64 couldn't impress me anymore, Goldeneye I found more impressive and while that's a much worse game than Perfect Dark which improves on it a lot at the time it was much more advanced. PC games took what innovations goldeneye had and built on them. Between 1997 and 2000 there was stuff like Unreal Tournament, Thief 1 and 2 and the biggie, Half Life which pretty much made every FPS before it seem obsolete. By the time PD came around it was pretty mediocre.

The HD remake was a bit of an antithesis to the CoD formula so it felt fresher than it was to a lot of people. The increased framerate was also a big help, the original was so sluggish, the HD remake plays so much better.

Why is Final Fantasy VI on the GBA so expensive? I mean, it's not even the best platform on which to play it, it's not rare by any stretch, and cheapest I can see is £15 on Ebay (buy-it-now), cart only, and that's the sole halfway-verifiable legit copy. You can buy the original SNES version (Amazon US) twice for the price Amazon (UK) are charging for it.

All Daddy Google spouts-up is posts from other forums going 'Wow! it's worth that much?!' and the like.

Just got an email for the new humble indie bundle

I never played any of the games in this, but I'll pick it up regardless, I have yet to not have hours of entertainment from a Humble Bundle

I've got loads of Benylin 4 Flu... Can I make any drugs out of that or is it only good for letting me get into work while sick so Greg from accounts doesn't steal my job?

Bit of odd one this , but anyone have a PC case going spare? (as in a knackered pc you havent got around to throwing in the skip yet?) When I did my 'puter upgrade I kept all the old bits...which turned out to be handy when it dawned on me my ancient flashcarts for the meg/snes/gba/ (where my homebrew lives) all need a very old style parallel port. One that the fancy dan new pc doesnt have! So I have to press the oul fella back into service again.
It'd need to fit an ATX motherboard , (most normal to big cases do),and I'd dig up a few bits and bobs to trade.

Do the flash carts need a parallel or serial port? I'm sure I have a USB to Serial adapter knocking around somewhere that I used to load maps onto and off of my trusty old etrex vista GPS.
