I think the reason we haven't seen Vito much is because he is not really good enough. To be fair to him he kept a couple of clean sheets so far and he has been doing the basics right (which has was a lot more that Woj done on Saturday) but he is a nightmare waiting to happen. For example I wouldn't let him near the pitch for the Man City game.

Woj did have a disaster of a game on Saturday but you gotta go with him every time unless he suffers a consistent loss of form. If so, by all means cut him loose and try something different but we are nowhere near that stage yet with him.

Arsene's comment about there being genuine competition for the No. 1 spot was I think designed to give Woj a kick up the arse as opposed to being a ringing endorsement of goalkeeping skills of one Vito "Corleone" Mannone

Anyways can you really trust a keeper with a nose like that??

    I didnt think so

I think Mannone will come good, remember most of the time it's all about form with GK's.
Wenger wouldn't hang onto him as number 2 if he hadn't got confidence in him.

To be honest that scares the crap out of me

Czsz scares the crap out of me a lot of the time. He had a very bad Euros and has not started well this season either.Might be lacking confidence at the moment. Hopes he gets over it soon though.

Yeah, we have seen enough of Woj to know that he has his faults, Manonne hasn't got enough playing time in the first team to see if he can make it his own and cope.

I still have a lot of faith in Scez he young and has a lot of talent and commands his box which is something weve not had in a long time, he had one poor game in the Euros which possibly knocked his confidence but that will return and no doubt Wenger and Bould will help him get it back.

For me he is 100% without a shadow of doubt our number 1.

I agree but he was thrown into the Arsenal team at the deep-end. I always believed we should have bought an experienced keep nearing retirement and given our youngsters time to grow and mature into the position.Szcz will be a great keeper but what we don't want is mistakes happening on a regular basis which lead him to doubt his ability.

Wenger tried to buy the Fulham goalkeeper whos name im not ever goina attempt to spell. Mark S.! We offered something like half a million for him and Fulham laughed at us!! Wenger wouldnt go any higher

Yeh I get what your saying but with keepers I think it always a difficult one really, they need to be number 1 to gain the experience and need a club who will give them the playing time to do it, because keepers unlike outfield players dont really get subsituted with twenty mins to go were winning comfortably lets throw this youngfella on to give him some playing time it just doesnt happen with keepers.

So Wenger only option would have been to loan him out let him gain that experience or leave him sitting on the bench with the odd Carling Cup game which dont really help either never get a rythm or confidence fom it. Its a position managers tend to like to have one really settled player for.

Give him a few games im sure well see the best Scez back.

Whatever about tonight (Ipresume it's an injury) but don't want Mannone between the posts for the City game if Woj is fit. Yes he kept three clean sheets, but tbh he was never really challenged much in any of those games because he was so well protected by the defence. Woj had one howler against Southanpton when we were 4-0 up, I don't think he should be dropped because of that, it's commonplace for even top teams to concede when they're that far ahead so early in a game.

Looking at our players and those who may need a rest etc with two games this weekend:

    Montpellier:

    Szcz
    Jenksinson---Per
    Verm
    Santos
    Coquelin---Arteta
    Ox
    Cazorla
    Podolski
    Giroud

    City:

    Szcz
    Jenksinson---Per
    Verm
    Gibbs
    Diaby
    Arteta
    Gervinho
    Cazorla
    Podolski
    Giroud

I'd be surprised if we started with Gervinho up top against City like we did at Southampton. Certainly not in the City game anyway and I can't see Wenger not playing Giroud tonight. French opposition that he knows very well - not going to get a much better chance to get a goal in the next few weeks unless he plays Carling Cup.

Vermaelen and Mertesacker have played very well together but Koscielny needs some game time. Although he could always get it against Coventry next week I supposed. Tonight might be a bit risky.

Wenger has mentioned Mannone and the chance he has to prove he's good enough.
I don't think Scez will be dropped, we all know he's number one, but i think tonight Wenger will be looking for reasons to DROP mannone.
If Scez comes back even with the slightest niggle in his ankle against City, it would be a bit worrying.
And that may happen if Manonne has a clanger tonight.

Agree with the city team play giroud up top we can sit deep and try counter them he will be better at holding up the ball

Don't think he will score tonight either they will be desperate for him not to score but he could open up plenty of space for others

have we anyone else other then Sanga and Jenkinson for right back? Think Jenkinson could do with a rest

    Just Coquelin or Yennaris.

Also I forgot Szcz is injured for tonight so Vito will be in goal.

I don't fancy Coq at wing back. He just looks out of sorts there. He's much more comfortable in center field. From what little I've seen of Yennaris at RB he's looked quite good. I'd say we'll have to wait until Coventry to see him get another run out though. Unless things are going swimmingly tonight and we bring him on to give Jenkinson a rest for the last 20.

I've always thought Coquelin has looked pretty assured at full back. On a par with Jenkinson and better than Djorou in that position. He is though as you say, altogether better in midfield.

I think he filled in on the left and right side and I think he wasnt too bad on the left but I didnt fancy him at all on the right. Djorou just isnt a full back in any way, shape or form. I had high hopes for him at centre back tho

With Bould running the defence, Djourou will be much improved when he gets his chance at centre back

That's a good point, forget what we have seen in the past until we see how players can cope under Bould's new system.

Coventry in the Carling cup should give JD his chance (alongside Koscielny maybe?) at CB.
Quite looking forward to that match. On paper we have a very strong second string.

    Mannone

    Yennaris---Djourou--Koscielny----Santos

    Coquelin---Ramsey----Frimpong/Rosicky (if either is fit?)

    Walcott---Chamakh---Arshavin

Thats a great second string team.

Yup that's as strong as can be really. I'd drop Walcott though, no interest in seeing him in an Arsenal shirt anymore tbh.

I think Frimpong is still out for another while but Rosicky will be back soon. Don't see either starting against Coventry. I think we'll see a couple of the younger players playing like Eisfeld.

Good changes. Doesn't upset things too much and hopefully Giroud can get off the mark tonight.

Was expecting Diaby to be rested. Delighted to see Giroud starting, would nearly put money on him bagging one.
