    5k for that!!
Give me 2 thirds of the price and I'll build you a better system in every possible way, technically and visually.

    Yes they are.
Over priced on nearly everything and the systems are badly put together and use mostly cheap as chips components (crappy fans and the ventilation on the cases is really not great).
Some of their stuff is decent enough like the monitor I have here (OptX AW2310 3D screen) but in general you're paying well over the odds for a shiny (but cheap ass) case and some very standard components inside it.

Jasus, for 5k sparks I'd build you a monster machine.

Are the Alienware laptops similarly poor ? Looking to upgrade my 5 year old Inspiron for something a little more recently that can handle a bit of gaming and doesn't overheat when transcoding a bit of video..

What the fook is the game about

Your basically arriving at your new job on day 1, the train is bringing you to your section in the facility & your being briefed about Black Mesa on the way by an automated message.

You arrive at your sector, & a security guard lets you out & gives you access through the security doors. Upon going up to the reception desk, another security guy tells you they've had a system crash during the morning, & he's still looking for his files.

He tells you where your assigned, & you look over at the wall to see which colour marked corridor you follow. You follow along where you need to go, picking up your HEV suit along the way. Eventually finding your way into the labs test-chamber. Proceed with the experiment as instructed by the two scientists, do what they tell you do do...& enjoy one of the best FPS games ever made ;)

I don't believe that someone had to explain the plot of Half Life...
That's like putting instructions on tea bags!

Thing about teaser screenshots like that Robocop one is you're never seeing the completed result like the visual artists intended. That they're even using a costume instead of just bluescreening every damn thing is encouraging, it'll mean the acting has more chemistry than what happened with the Star Wars prequels.

Though had you not said it was Robocop though I would have guessed it was a Guyver film.

Yeah, and as everyone knows you're better off doing your own blue LEDs and glitter :)

I do have a tacky ass Alienware M17x laptop but it's really only for when I need some proper pc gaming when away from home (xmas at my parents house and that sort of thing).
Mostly my laptop needs are met by the iPad when travelling or if I really need a laptop then the MacBook Air does the job (Windows 7 and Mac OS of course).

On the new Robocop thing, I am disappoint :(

Thats Total Recall and Robocop that are going to be raped now, no need for either remake

And talk about trying to cash in on the whole Recent Batman look, they couldnt even give him a chrome finish :(

    Yeah, bad times indeed.
I mean they might be planning on something on the CGI front but the suit is the wrong colour for any sort of dramatic post production colour/texture changes.
I've also read that he's sort of a mini transformer in the movie, which brings more than a single tear to my eyes :(

Jesus christ, its dark days for films with the remade ****e that's coming out the last while.

Thank god for films like Dredd and The Raid this summer to refresh my cinema experiences

Robocop was already raped to death with all the sequel and series etc. The first film is amazing and I actually kinda like the second one but there is absolutly no way to top this kind of stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOkZIay0J00

The new Robocop movie can't be any worse than Robocop 3.

    I hope. :o

Well it does have a fairly good cast anyway, no idea about the director though

and oh yes, I'd like to see them take on this scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h47cmkO4b7g&feature=g-vrec. Nobody could be better than Kurtwood Smith

Lads, any of you know anything about projectors?

I've wanted to pick one up for ages, but always end up getting lost in all the different types.

Looking for something for around €500 which displays 16:9 with resolutions higher than SD.

I don't think what I am looking for exists....seems you really need to go near the 1000 mark to get something decent. any ideas? Something like this maybe? http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/11164949/art/epson/eh-tw480-projector.html

I heard the proper screens are really expensive aswell, like a few grand if you want to get a really good quality image. I could have heard this from someone who was told this but someone selling one though so dont take my word for it

I've a couple of projectors and had a few in the past as well.
Is it for a home theatre or a mix of games/movies/retro consoles etc.

Mainly for home theatre, but I'd like to be able to play consoles on it too.

Trying to figure out if I need something which is going to display HD or if I'd be happy enough with SD!

I've both a HD projector and SD one myself but don't use them that much any more.
A very important thing to think about is where you'll be putting the projector and what kind of screen you'll be using. I didnt want to spend 1k on a proper screen so I used Screen Goo from Goo Systems to paint a large wall back in 2008 when I got my first HD projector and it worked very well (i've a video on my youtube channel somewhere from 2008 showing how it looks). I've not painted any walls with it in the current house we're in.

Also, and this is very important, noise levels and heat. If the projector fans make a load of noise you're not going to enjoy it as much and the first HD projector I got used to heat up a large room very quickly.

Kinda wanna put a projector in my shed at some stage too & build a racer type rig with a proper seat & controls so I'd be interested in thoughts on the type/cost of projector I'd need too.

Ideally 16:9, HD resolutions & only really to be used for games

Some good info there man, thanks. I didn't really think of fan noise at all - was going to put the projector behind the sofa on a pedestal.

Between the two sitting rooms, there are solid white sliding doors - I was thinking of using them as a projection surface. Failing that, a big white sheet :D

Here's the Epson one I was looking at for 500. Does 720p

Looks ok, check out the reviews and specs (noise levels are important).

Here's a clip of my old projector from back in 2008. The clip is low quality but you get the idea.

Video quality was pretty good considering it was one of the first projectors that could do HD and even had a HDMI port back in 2008. But if you listen you can hear the fans running pretty high in the background
