Had Asics Keyano 17 then 2160 and onto 2170 - all from Elverys (with gait analysis).
Went to Amphibian King and had a good gait analysis, tried on about 6 pairs of running shoes and left with a pair of Mizuno waves.
Very light on your feet and very comfortable. Haven't done a long run yet in them.

Will use the Mizunos at half M on Sat in Dublin and then on the 20m LSR the following week.........

I'll be interchanging them with the 2170 for a while and (all going well) will be running the marathon in the Mizuno's.

Would strongly advise against this. With any new shoes you should really be getting used to them first with a few short runs before thinking of racing or doing a 20 miler in them.

thanks Cormac - good to see another Spurs man in here!

I should have added that I got mine weeks ago and have put up about 60 miles so far on them - many short runs with the longest being 11 miles last monday.
They'll be well worn in to about 80-90 miles by my next LSR.

Come Marathon day I'll be aiming to have about 150miles in them.

thanks for the advice though - not many people would break them in.

    Ah, sure you're grand so.
Here was me thinking you got them during the week and were going to go straight into a HM with them.
11miles to HM ain't much of a leap, and you'll be fine by the time the marathon comes around.

Us Spurs fans have a turbulent year ahead I think, lost creativity & options, but we better give AVB some time.

    What I'm wearing now...

Added to my growing collection of Inov-8 shoes yesterday - thanks to amphkingwest for supplying the Trailroc 245 & at a better deal than you'd find online.

For those who don't know, they're a trail shoe with a 3mm heel-toe drop, which helps me continue my gradual transition towards a flatter minimal shoe.
    etc

Out of interest, what heel-toe drop did you start out with in the innov8s?

Big fan of their shoes and planning on purchasing the new trailroc but perhaps with a lesser drop. The 255s.

Started out with the Road-X 255, 9mm drop, last December. Kept with them through to June when I went with the 6mm Road-X 233.
Now using the 233 for most runs except the LSR at the weekend.

Tried both the 255 & 245 Trailrocs in the shop next to my 233s. Due to the added cushioning from the deeper sole lugs, I didn't notice too much difference between the 233s & Trailroc 245.
The 255 just felt to me like it had too much of a sole now that I'm so used to much less on the road-x shoes.

Done a couple of runs in the 245s now and they seem right for me. If you're coming from a more standard shoe, might be better as you said, to consider the Trailroc 255.

Best to try both if you can, but I think they are limited sizes. I know they have some in Oranmore, not sure about the Dublin & Bray stores.

Spurs - can I ask how much were the 245's - don't see them on the AK website and are you still happy with them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

They're not on the website, like so much of the new stock, we simply don't have the time to invest in updating the website as so much of work involves dealing with people in person.

Always glad of a phone call for any queries though.

€120 to answer your query (less loyal customer or TI discounts).

    Price as Sean answered already.

Am I happy with them, absolutely. Been using them around Dangan, grass, rough paths & the roads in around UCG (I refuse to refer to it as NUIG).

Need to get them out on a proper off-road route, but I expect them to be just as good there.

Just took delivery of a pair of Asics Gel 1170's - €78.75 delivered from runireland.com

    Delighted with that price.

Posted this over on my training log and got the recommendation for the Trailrocs.
Need to get new trail shoes soon as the sharp stones are now pushing through the soft soles on my Lunarglides which have over 1000 km racked up now. Looking for something good on loose gravel and sharp stones so don't need big lugs on the soles just good grips, probably something light but strong & durable with around 6mm heel-toe drop. Oh and did I say cheap as well - answers on a postcard.

I am also interested in the New Balance MTE101 or MT110 (newer version I think). Anyone got any experiences of these? Or other recommendations?

I picked up a pair of the MT110 last month. So far I have found them to be great. My first run in them was a couple of hours of mixed terrain, from fireroad to trail to open mountain they did a good job of handling everything. The outsole is soft enough and I think will wear quickly but they can be bought very cheaply, I got mine for 40 Sterling in London, so at that price it’s not so bad! They have a very smooth lining, I ran sockless in them from the first run and had no rubbing or blistering.

I bought these to replace Inov8 flite 232s for longer training and racing on mixed terrain. A shoe for all occasions you might say. I was looking for a lower heel drop than the 232s, as well as a more anatomical last and a rock plate. Some people have told me they find the sole is built with a slope from outside edge of the foot to inside edge but I am yet to notice this. The 110 had been recommended to me and I would recommend them to others for similar use.

If you’re interested in them for their more anatomical shape I’d recommend going up a size from normal to give a bit more room for your toes, as they are not as wide in the forefoot as a Vivo for example.

Oh and mine stink! That might be cos of the sockless use though...

Thanks Jeff. Good info. I had read about the lateral to medial slope in the 110 which seems a bit strange, though apparently it will be corrected in the next version. You are right about the price -both the 101 & 110 can be got for around 60 euro, which had me wondering why - maybe durability is the answer.

I just ordered a pair of New Balance 890 V2s off the web there last night. Look fantastic, I currently train in NB 620s (690s??) that I got in the states last summer and they're among the most comfortable runners I've ever had.

Just wondering what people's thoughts on the 890 v2s are?

I'll also be looking to get a really light/racing flats type of shoe soon, for track and interval running and would welcome all suggestions.

I'm training for the 400/800, so grip is a big issue.

    Any advice welcome. :)

The heel and ball, the high wear bits, of the sole seem to be made of very durable rubber. I have about 100 miles ran in mine, mostly around Howth head and ticknock and I have yet to see any appreciable damage. The same cannot be said for the mid foot area, which is a much softer and lighter compound.
About the "slope", I noticed that the first time I wore them, but not since. I think it would be more noticeable on a road shoe, but when you're ankle deep in mud it's not such a big deal

    Hi Folks,
I always am interested in what other runners are wearing and I always tend to look at others shoes in races...:D

Just wondering, what shoe are you wearing now, your reason for wearing it and what you plan on purchasing next?

    Cheers.

At the moment, none, because I'm in my house sitting beside a grand fire on the laptop.

When I do wear shoes, I wear Addidas runners, a REALLY comfy pair, and I can't find a pair like them.

not going to start a new thread, this is possibly the best place to post..
just wondering did anyone ever get a new pair of runners that seemed to have no bounce / response in them pretty much from the off
i got new wave inspires in june and while they were better than the old ones they still felt very solid to me , and now 3 almost 4 months on they seem completely dead.. i have racked up higher mileage in shorter time than usual but nothing crazy almost 400km and now im getting stiffness and soreness that id usually be getting when new runners are required..
nothing i can do i guess but get a new pair and rotate them but i was just wondering if it ever happened to anyone else
( i vaguely remember a post about runners left under lights in a shop for a long time drying out and losing their bounce..these were bought off the internet )

Yep, got a pair of Kayano 17's in March which were exactly like that. Felt like I was running on bricks right from the off. :( Couldn't even return them because I picked them up on a weekend away.

I run in the Inspire and find the 8's feel stiffer under foot when walking around in them. I don't feel them being 'dead' when running though.

Yes, to your query of long display or shoes sitting in a sunny window, not good for them, neither is washing or drying them on a radiator (not saying you have). If you've bought off the internet, this is not likely to be a huge factor as they most likely stocked off a warehouse.

I generally rotate through shoes from 400-450km and can milk an older pair to possibly 600k using them for the shorter runs and the new ones for longer runs.

dont walk in them, just for running only..have always been solid rather than after a few miles
they are due for rotating now alright , i just wanted to see had anyone else experienced it.. hoping to get into ak in base to race in a couple of weeks to replace them.. might get them to double check what suits me while im there

Gone from being a pegasus 28 doubter to a believer, and now a pegasus 29 lover:p
Got a nice 'bright' yellow pair ( bright is an understatement really!) on Monday and have done a couple of slow runs with a tempo run tonight.
I cannot even hear my feet landing in them.
Doing hi-milage marathon training so they suit my needs perfectly.

These shoes are amazing. I've done about 25 miles in them so far, and they're absolutley brilliant. I might order another pair to rotate with.

They're a tight fit around the toes when you first put them on, but this eases slighlty over time. I remember the same thing happened with my first pair of NB shoes, and it makes for a really good fit.

    Update on the Trailroc 245s:-
Done approx 45 miles in them, including a cross-country race last Sunday. Found they were great in the conditions, a little soft in places, but no pure mud. Probably tightened one of them a little too much as in the middle of the race it squeezed a bit, but forgot about it and ploughed on.
They wash quickly, just dunked in the shower & stuffed with newspaper, and there's very little evidence of wear on the sole yet, which is good considering they've been doing a fair bit on rough paths.

There appears to be a little bit of detail leaking out from Inov-8 every now and again on the Spring releases, those Road-X-Tremes will definitely be my next purchase.
    Want...

And some further research gives me the pdf of the new Inov-8 road shoes for 2013

Really want the 178s, close to club colours as well. :)

A nice little package arrived to work today (under the OH radar) from my friends in AK and a pair of Trailroc 245's jumped out to greet me, they were all excited and full of life so I had to take them for a run in Shanganagh. After 10.4 miles straight out of the box in slippy mucky conditions I'm already loving these shoes. Little more protection than the flite 230's, deeper lugs, very comfortable fit, I'm looking forward to many mucky miles over the Winter!

    OH FFS!
If ANYONE ELSE says good things about the trailroc 245s I'm going to have to give Sean a call and get a pair of my own to play with :D:D:D.
Out of curiosity, size wise, same as the road-x fitting?
Not that I'm tempted or anything, until early December at the earliest and I was thinking I'd have an easy Christmas.
I was thinking of going for a pair of the 233 but no there's a spanner in the works in the form of the xtreme's
So, time to start dropping hints to Mrs B.Harte

    Oh yeah, nearly forgot.
ordered a new pair of Pegasus 29 today, went for the radioactive yellow pair, 60.30 from Littlewoods, (67 -10% promo code) a few weeks out from a change but at that price too good to pass up on.

Quite similar to the road-x, feel more like the 233, I find the 255 a little snugger.

Brooks Pure Flow. I got them ostensibly as a replacement for my green silence (all time faves). While the soles aren't visibly thicker, the cushioning is more plush, also they are more of a replacement for my kinvaras, although I think the DCM will be the kinvaras swan song.
I've done 4 runs in them so far, a 14,10,10 and a 6 mile. Comfortable straight out of the box, but feel a bit disconnected from the road until you get used to them. Forgot to put my socks in my bag today, so I can verify they these are good to wear sock less, no blisters or hotspots.
Might go for the pure connect when the green silence finally give up the ghost, unless I can get more of those

So far for 2012 - No wonder the wife says no more runners. I monitor each mile I do on each pair. I have marks if I have two of the same pair which I will probably not buy in doubles again as its a pain to track but I monitor my legs for niggles when I go above 400 miles on a pair. As my stride was slapping the ground it meant that I only got the high 400's miles out of the GT-2170's. I'd say I will get more from the Mizuno's as they seem a better built shoe but time will tell. Injury free for well over a year with only missing training due to sickness or planned rest so I will keep it going. I spent a lot of money before that sorting out my pains. Its not all down to the runners but I like shinny things

    Retired:
Asics GT-2170 - Had two pairs of these that I got in December. Now I loved these runners. They were great but I prefer the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8 now but I did like the blue of these. Still wear them as a day to day shoe but will have to bin both pairs when I retire the Inspire 8's soon as they are all holes.
    25e84014e7fcacc3b720dd13b7ae3b12ef48b034_m.jpg

    Currently:
Asics DS Trainer 17 - hate these as the laces come open often, reminds me must change the laces in them. Other than that they are grand, nothing special.
    asics_gel_ds_trainer_17_t212n0147_03_db62b4dad6194942b005721645fae9ce.jpg

Mizuno Wave Inspire 8 - Really like these. Have 2 pairs at the moment. Had another pair that had an air pocket under the sole that I had to send back but overall a good runner. No more holes like the asics. Good wearing shoe.
    Inspire-8-8KN24209-500x500.jpg

    Just got:
Mizuno Wave Elixir 7 - just got these from AK. Much lighter than before. Only for short stuff for a few months as don't want to get an injury but of the times I have worn them they are great. Lighter is the way to go but gradually. Soles of feet feeling the pounding more on these defo so need to be careful.

Agree with BeepBeep67, they feel closer to the 233 than the 255. I think the 255 has a bit more cushioning around the heel, hence the snug feeling fit.
Size wise, I find the trailroc the same as the road-x.

Not sure what to say on the Xtremes, I'm thinking of using them on track sessions and short races only when I first get them. Will be using my 233s for most training and 10k to HM races, with the 255s on weekend LSRs.
Don't know how well the Xtremes would hold up as a regular training shoe.

The 233s wear pretty well so far for me and so are great for general training, so I wouldn't advise against investing in them, sure you'll always need another pair soon afterwards. ;)

@rom, I'm retiring my GT 2160s but for other reasons. Initially they were great but anything over 10k they just tear the arches off me, one foot currently looks like a butchered pig after a long run over last weekend keeping me out until this weekend at the earliest, plus the bloody toe hole appeared very quickly in them.

Anyway, I over pronate, hence the 2160s, but I seem to have a fairly flat foot. Do you have a regular arch in comparison ? I need to pop back to AK next week when I can run properly again and re-evaluate what I wear. Last time it was down to the Brooks and Asics but the Asics felt slightly nicer at the time, Mizunos were 3rd in the list but felt too hard. But I suppose this time around the most important thing is how the arch on them are.

Ideally I'd like to jump into a pair of road Innov8s as I adore my roclites, not so much of a hint of hot spots or rubbing but due to pronating I may need a bit more guidance or support.
