Podolski did fantastic from the wing against Liverpool. Really helps Gibbs on the defensive side of things as well.

He certainly did, but it's also a relief that he can play up front, on the wing or as a deep lying playmaker.
He may turn out to be 3 players in one for us.

Just watched the France vs Iceland match, where Giroud showed some beautiful link up place and great passing skill to assist 2 goals. He would really do well up front with Podolski as Giroud is great at creating chances when the ball is hoofed up to him and as Poldi is the best finisher there should be many goals.

I think Podolski is being wasted on the wing, and its time for us to play 2 strikers.

Yes but the midfielders need to use the quick ball to make this happen. While all our midfielders are now exceptional players they need to adjust to the speed and tempo to suit Podolski and Giroud. Sometimes they take too many touches and slow the play down. That is ok sometimes but they need to vary the play and get it in quickly at times too.

Why would we go for Drogba when Giroud is so much better looking?

2 up top? No chance, not on a regular basis anyway!

The way we play, it's not needed.
Our wingers and attack minded midfielders get forward most of the time too.

Imagine what we could do with the Anti-Arsenal himself in our team though

Exactly. Im optimistic for starters that when Giroud starts to score he will hit a rich vein of form.

I mean if we are going on successful buy's regarding who scores closer to their debut then by the media's logic, Adebayor was better then both Bergkamp and Henry

I have a lot of faith in Giroud coming good if there one thing Wenger has always had a knack for spotting it was top class goal scorers, and from what ive seen of Giroud so far he will come good and the goals will flow just needs to be given time to settle and have the fans not put to much pressure on him, as long the rest the team can get goals and were winning matchs the pressure will stay off.

Anyone read the cazorla interview where he said, he was signed to play on the wing with the option to move inside, very interesting I think

Ya. Bit of it on Arseblog.........

Cazorla: Wenger gives me the freedom I love
    by arseblog, news.arseblog.com
    September 11th 2012

New boy Santi Cazorla says he feels the pressure of his big money move to Arsenal but that his deployment in the role just behind the striker is the one that suits him best.

The Spaniard has paid tribute to Arsene Wenger, and his teammates, in an interview with El Pais. Asked about the pressure of moving from Malaga to Arsenal and what Wenger said to him when he signed, Cazorla said, “They have paid an important amount of money for me and the role they’ve given me is the one I like.

“I love the style of the team. Wenger’s philosophy is to control the game and I like to be on the ball. Furthermore, the boss has put me in a position, second striker, with all the freedom I want to have.

“He told me to be at ease and that he’d play me where I could most help the team. It surprised me in pre-season when he put me as the second striker. I’ve come to play on the wings with the freedom to move inside, but Wenger has immediately put me in this position. With Arteta, Diaby, Rosicky and Wilshere, who is recovering from injury, we’re going to have a lot of the ball.”

When asked about what he has to do on the pitch in England differently to Spain, he explained, “Arteta has advised me a lot, he told me football is much faster and less tactical than Spain. It’s more give and go. Mikel has helped me to learn to see the game and said that if we play rapidly with the ball we’re going to create a lot of danger and we’ll beat most teams.”

And the praise for his fellow Spaniard didn’t stop there, with Cazorla confirming that the manager is now going to use Arteta as a defensive midfielder.

“Wenger wants him now as a defensive pivote and he’s doing if very well. He gives real balance and he can win the ball back and play it out because with the ball he’s spectacular.”

So, it’s so far so good for Cazorla who says learning English is very important and he’s having English lessons twice a week with the same tutor who taught Cesc.

After three games it’s perhaps too soon to say the money spent on him was a bargain, but when Arsene Wenger says ‘We’re lucky to have him’, when speaking about his quality, that tells you everything you need to know.

Wasn't Walcott signed for that role originally!

I think he was alright. Wenger certainly used to be on about Walcott becoming a striker/second striker

Walcott was signed as an unproven player with potential. Cazorla on the other hand is the finished article

Quiet around here. Not good for us lurkers!

Anyway seems Diaby is out for this weekend but we should be able to cope with Southampton. Really hoping to see Giroud take his chance too.

Sagna has been talking about Arsenal's transfer sales. Hope he pipes down and gets on with his comeback cos we really need him.

i don't think he meant 'come' in that sentence as in come to arsenal, more like what has happened in his career, if you get me. maybe i'm getting it wrong though.

Wenger rubbished the unhappy Sagna reports today, insisting that if he was unhappy he'd have been sold before the window closed. I wouldn't say there's much to the reports considering how drastically different the various translations are.

I wonder what the Drogs situation is - he has tracked him before & in fairness his comment of "“At the moment no. In my opinion he is not free. He has just left England,” said the Arsenal manager." to me implies he's following the situation but doesn't want to get hoisted for approaching a player under contract.

£200k a week could be an issue though unless they increase the matches programme by £3 (joking)

I'd love to see him in an Arsenal shirt, but I don't think he'd play in England for a club other than Chelsea. I reckon if he goes anywhere in Europe it'll be Marseille.

Lads, i think even if Drogba said "I'd like to play for Arsenal", it would still never happen.
His wage, his age, his diving, his bad boy attitude.

Giroud, Bendtner & Chamakh would be the closest Arsenal would ever get to a Drogba type.:D

Lol I read that as "driving" initially - he could keep Santos company

I think we will see a few changes in personnel tomorrow with some players being rested. I hope not too many though. Never change a winning team and all that but we have an important game on Tuesday too and a big one the following Saturday.

Diaby def not been risked, who else would ya rest??
I'd be tempted to give verm a rest but besides that I think everyone else plays
Scez prob back in goal too

Walcott looks like he's out too.

Czsz, Gibbs, Mert, Kos, Jenks, Santos, Ramsey, Cazorla, Arteta, Ox, Giroud.
I think he'll rest Diaby, Podolski and Verm and replace Cazorla if we are comfortably ahead.

Just got my confirmation of my club level tickets for tomorrows game. Can't wait to see another clean sheet....

    Szcz
    Jenk
    Per
    Verm----Gibbs
    Arteta----Ramsey
    Gervinho
    Santi
    Podolski
    Giroud

Would be my preference for tomorrow. As far as I'm concerned Walcott sits on the bench for the rest of the season, unless we have serious injury problems.

I suspect you might be right, at least until January.
