I find the metal ones are normally lighter then the plastic ones.

They are but I'm talking about the adhesion of the tape to the metal when it's cold.

That's on my list...just opened up Eireplates there to order some pressed steel plates. Just normal font, none of this german lark! Eh...how does one go about getting 2 holes drilled into them? I guess I could do it myself...

Don't drill them. Buy the clips as well , they are only a few euro

Nothing worse than nice clean pressed plates with 2 dirty screw heads sticking out of them, just use some double sided tape.

As has been said, DONT drill those lovely new pressed plates. Tape them on. Ive never once had one of mine fall off.

There are number plate surrounds that dont require bolts, screws etc to hold the plate in. I have a set on the 406 I put on Sunday, I'll throw up pics later when I'm at a pc :)

Not all of them ;) The ones I normally get are Rammstein ones and they are deadly if I may say so myself :D

Very handy if you want to just pop in different plates but the pain about them is when you wash the car and wet-wax it. The surrounding area will be dry but once you open the boot or a door, water drips from behind it

They serve another purpose too, if a dealer had them on, for some reason this usually leaves a line scratched into the paint. By removing the surround and only having the plate, the line is very visible. A new surrond covers it up :D

Well lads I ordered them without seeing all this talk of double sided tape, anyone know where I could pick some up? Extra strong!

There's a 1.49 shop in Limerick that do a big roll of it for... well.. 1.49.

    Serious stuff!

Halford`s sell actual specific License plate double sided tape, used some myself a few weeks to tape metal plates on the 924. Wouldn't have thought there would be a huge market for the stuff but there you go!

That'll do! I was just out there too...ah well.

Anyway, sort of back on topic. Got the car serviced this morning. Running well. Mechanic was impressed with how well sorted the car was. Need to get a couple of jobs done in the near future, nothing too major.

They do but the price is extortionate. I can get the same thing in my local MF for half nothing!

From what I remember, it's this bad. If Halfords are selling it for €10, I can get it for €2.50.

Was that stuff in halfords in a green roll with orange package? Its nowhere near as strong as the pads eireplates sell and wasn't strong enough for either of my friends number plates and came unstuck after a week or so. Not trying to say youre wrong LIGHTNING but thats just my experience of them. The ones on eireplates are what you want, but I found them on eBay for much better price http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320965320449?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_922

Have half my lip kit on with them!you only need 4 for each number plate maximum

The problem with using good tape like that is you have to be absolutely sure that the plate is going on straight and centred. If you have to realign it, you'll going to be pulling it off and possibly making sh!t of the tape.

    It's happened me before :(

If the plates falls of it's due to the user/car.

Two full pages about double sided tape? Too much time free lads.

Two self tappers always does the job for me. Not worried about holes as a result, sure they're behind the plate!
