    Come on, Liverpool. Woo.

Surprised how many people rated welbeck ahead of the others, he was our worst player on the pitch IMO.
I wouldn't say he was worse than Rooney, Evra and Nani, but he was just as bad IMO. He looked very slow on a couple of crucial occasions too.

Don't think city look as solid with 3 at the back lads. Think pool will get something from this.

Anyone heard anything about a potential move for Kurt Zouma?

Paid good money for him during my time as Dortmund in FM, turned into a super player, took him to Newcastle with me, then to United

One other thing. RVP is 6ft1. I know he took the corners at Arsenal.

At that height he should be in the box causing trouble for defenders.

Won't cause much trouble if we can't get corners past the first man, which seems to happen around 90% of the time.

To me it almost looks like we TRY to not beat the first man from corners, Welbeck (or someone else if he's not playing) always runs near post and trys to flick it on. It's as if we have a training ground routine involving a near post flick on. If that's the case... WHAT THE ****! IT FAILS SO MUCH! JUST STOP!

I swear, it makes me depressed every time we get a corner, I know we scored yeseterday indirectly from one, but that was from another failed corner. Never have I seen a team as good as ours be so utterly useless from corners. And then at the other end, every time our opponent gets a corner or free kick around the box I get a sinking feeling like we are 75% likely to concede. Our corners may as well be goal kicks for the oppo, and it must be the main source of goals against.

Set pieces are a joke. Do they practise them at all I wonder?

at least we scored from a corner yesterday, so its a start!

but ya, our set plays are a joke and even defending them seems to be a problem. we are so dodgy at defending set piece and hoof ball, its actually very very worrying.

looking back at the last 10 or so goals we have conceded and practically all of them have been from hopeful punts into the box -

fulham - cross into the box and set piece.
    everton - corner
    city - corner
everton - 3 hoofs into the box
    wigan - corner

You can't really count Kag's goal as a corner though, was a rebound from a shot that came off a failed corner!

Out of curiosity, when was the last time we scored a header from a corner? My mind's gone blank.

Rooney scored one at White Hart Lane last season, but then Spurs were/are even worse than United at set-pieces so you probably shouldn't count that one tbh.

rooney scored against Spurs (3-1) at WHL from a header and also a half volley against liverpool in the 2-1 at OT

i cant think of many more to be honest. even scoring direct from free kicks is a huge problem.

jaysus we are stretching it now to be honest! all the clubs around us score about 15 corner goals a season and we get 2 or 3!

its not great football, but in a tight game that we cant get through, every goal counts. it really is a huge achilles heel of ours, but its not the scoring them that really bothers me as long as we are scoring goals, its the defending of them.

in summary, our lack of ability in the air, is really costing us, all over the pitch. and its not like we dont try, we do send a good few high balls around the place at times yet lose them all.

one funny thing is when a few people were harping on about Dembele over the last few weeks, people laughed at the notion and how he wasnt good enough for us. not many saying that today are they!?

if he ends up at Arsenal, Chelsea or City i will be sickened, he really is turning into a top class player.

We scored the most headed goals in the league last year, 16. They may not have come from corners but we certainly don't lack any quality in the air. It's the delivery from corners that needs to improve.

I've never really noticed Welbeck's move towards the front post. If he is then it's a simple variation. If the corner is hitting the first defender (as it regularly does) then move in front of the fúcking defender. A lot of the corners wouldn't be all that bad if there was just someone in front of the first defender as a lot of them are good height for a flick on. I've been saying this for about 2 years though so change is unlikely. It's like the corner takers are expecting everyone to move to the front post and everyone in the box is expecting a back post corner. It's really perplexing.

thats down to our quality of delivery from valencia and nani more than anything else. alot of those headers were simple enough goals to be honest and not really a sign of aerial strength.

Was searching for goals scored from corners, found this stat of 2010-11 season.

Draw was best result today, hate to see either of them win.

Anfield is a bogey ground for City so I expect Liverpool to revert to type next week & Arsenal to finally score a few.

tbh I'd rather have seen City drop 3 points (every goal and point counts as we saw last season) than get the draw but dropping 2 points will have to suffice.

City dont look the team they were last season . Its probably just a slow start though .
Their two goals came from serious defensive errors today .
They looked dodgey at the back .
Last season very little got past kompany .
Im sure theyll buy a few players by next week .
Hope they keep up with the 3 at the back for a few more weeks.

if they make a really big play for the CL this year, i think it will effect their league push, as their squad IMO is just not big enough. people rave about the squad but when they got 3 or 4 players out in January-Feb, their season almost capitulated.

they have added Rodwell and Sinclair possibly, but if they dont get in one genuine world class player, i think they wont be as strong as last year if they get a few injuries.

in saying that though, we aint light the world alight in the first 2 games either did we, though one could argue our two fixtures were harder than theirs.

    Dembele teasing us...
“Personally, I would like to go to the top. I think every player wants that. But I have the confidence to say that I want to play at a top club one day,” Dembele told Sport 1.

Dembele is happy to remain at Craven Cottage if no offers come in.

“[Fulham] is a good team. We have had two good matches now so it also makes sense to play here.

“As long as there is no bid, nothing happens.”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

i fear Dembele will end up leaving for another club in the next week. i hope he stays at fulham if we dont bid for him.

i just wonder, if an another bid comes in will Fergie be tempted? he looks a real player and seems to be that power house that we need. quick, strong, good on the ball, he appears to me to be the best player outside of the top 6 clubs in the league, perhaps only Fellani is more effective than him.

by the way lads, can anybody confirm our squad right now in terms of the 25 man rule?

Could see Spurs making a move for him in week to come.

Fergie has alresdy explicitly stated his business is done.

Thats a good shout. They want one. Moutinho costs too much, move for Anderson "rejected" by Fergie apparently so Dembele could well be next on their list. Only reason they might not is if they are after only that Modric style of player that pull the strings in midfield.

As powerhouses go, hes at the cheaper end of the scale. Annoying that Fergie probably won't move for him.

Would anyone mind if we swapped Anderson for him? I certainly wouldn't.

Ando's flattered to deceive far too often while Dembele looks the real deal & the type of player we need.
