The problem with the MX518 is that it's got quite a short life. The right-angled turn of the cable inside the mouse seems to be too much strain on it.

The MX518 comes with a glossy finish that collects dead skin like no ones business and causes my hands to get all sweaty and sticky. The G500 has a smooth finish and its a great bargain on amazon! Its like a redesigned MX518

the g500 is a completely different mouse to the mx518. different feel/style, different grip positions, harder scroll wheel (and frictionless with the button obviously) DPI range doesn't feel 'right' to me, whereas I'm very comfortable with switching dpi in game on the mx518. also the g500 is a lot heavier to move, and is useless on anything other than cloth mouse mats.

the g400 is the real update to the 518, though I haven't used it.

if my 518 died today, I'd get another, or the g400. I've used the death adder and its pretty good too. I may be tempted by wireless though cause it can get annoying to have that drag the mouse up. also, totally agree with the skin cell comment, I thought it was somehow just mine, but I don't get it while using other mice :o

the 518 is also optical, whereas the g500 is lazer.

My G500 works perfectly fine on a wooden surface with no mouse mat.
As for switching dpi, I can't say I do it often enough I rarely touch it at all.

strange, cause wood is what I've used it on and it was baaad. maybe something to do with the grain it didn't like.

don't get me wrong, the g500 is a very nice mouse, and great value for money. I would still recommend it to people, its just not for me.

Are they treated surfaces or raw wood?

At 2000dpi + the grain really shouldnt be a big issue, I'd say its more the fault of the lacquer.

Yeah, only ever use the DPI when a new game is way off and its just easy to swap down/up sensitivity.

10GB? Is it a trick question?

it'll have access to 10gb, assuming you're using a 64bit OS, but it likely won't be in dual channel, which will be a small performance hit.

If it gets past POST :D

Stick to buying RAM in pairs, to avail of dual channel and to cut problems. Get 4x2GB or 2x4GB or even (2x2GB + 2x4GB). Try to keep the same kind of RAM in each pair.

No its not a trick question.

    I bought 2gb x 4 ram modules.

One was faulty and the seller is offering 4GB for half the price.

so I was wondering what the best option was.

I don't get it either, the overclockers won't need it and those afraid of overclocking don't seem likely to flash a BIOS either.

    Because nvidia cards do it.

The Samsung is about 50% faster tbh - and I paid 189.99 each for the P64s back in the day /cry

They've both found new homes though. Ones caching my games collection the other will be my HTPCs boot drive.

its also not worth upgrading to windows8 for it tbf. maybe someone will port it over for us though.

Procast, Give a look at this-MNPCTECH Custom made 600T acrylic full window for $125 (€101) plus shipping.

Imo way nicer than the Corsair one.
