Beech Park GC senior/junior scratch cups Sunday 19th August. 18 holes. €15. Time sheet open.

Are you sure it's 18 holes? GUI and Beech Park website both show it as 36 holes which would be great value for €15. Another course I've yet to play so hoping to get out but obviously number of holes in play is a decider on what tee time to select.
I rang them to confirm and it's 18. Not sure why the BP website says 32. The GUI website is very poor re their open fixtures service. It doesn't seem to get updated too often. It still has open fixtures listed for South County GC

Had a 87 :( I was 9 over for the Par 5s. Had a 5,7,8 & 9 on them. Finished birdie, par birdie though which was pleasing.

Course was in great nick alright. Got one very bad shower that flooded the 13th green but by the time we got to 14th all the surface water was gone.
    Love the course.

God sounds like the par 5's really went against you. Didn't play them great myself actually. Haven't heard any results but would imagine there would have been some good scores with the course playing that nice

    71 won the junior
    77 won the intermediate
    83 won the minor

570 golfers played over the 3 days, not all were in the comp.think it was 520ish
Big numbers and reckon it was enjoyed by most, have to say it was made much easier by all par 3s being off whites.that's prob one of main differences between tees.if it had been junior only it may have been diff

Great numbers playing. I'd only played the course once previously and that was off the blues. As you said off the whites it's that bit easier. The par 3's are hard off the blues alright, in particular 5 and 14. I also find the 17th a very difficult hole. The 18th was grand on Friday as it was downwind. But off the blues with no wind that's a testing finisher

Played the Junior Scratch in Tipperary Golf club yesterday. Have to say that it was the biggest waste of €20 I've ever spent. I understand a course needing the money but it was virtually unplayable. Phoned the pro shop to make sure it was open, shocked when they said yes so travelled down to play. Standing water everywhere, literally everywhere. Almost every lie you had you could of taken relief except there was nowhere to take it. Plugged balls in the fairway, buried in the rough. Not sure what the winning scores were for the rounds as Senior Junior Intermediate and Minor were all on. The course must be even worse now

Yeah course was very wet. And long off the blues. 77 won on back 9. 72 won nett. Shot +9 81 myself which I was actually happy enough with. Not sure what the CSS was but I'm guessing around 73/74.

Ya bigdrive 5 + 14 are different off the blues, number 3 was 145 to pin but is around 190 off blues so big diff there also.
Really shallow green on 17,its the theme for most of the greens but 17 is very shallow.
18 usually down wind, its 475 from blues i think so bit of wind helps, that was off whites to which helped.i was told number 4 caused fierce probs with out of bounds both sides.

75 was leading junior after 2 days so with that many players it shows course isnt as easy ive heard from few people,10 tees were off the whites so could have played tougher again.

Before I'd ever played castlemartyr I'd heard people saying it was easy. I certainly think its a good test, wouldn't say it's easy. Must try and make another one of the Tuesday singles in the next few weeks

Was looking at the timesheets there on dromoland website? Is it being played in 4 balls?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,550 ✭✭✭Myksyk

    Yeah.

Very unusual to play a scratch cup in groups of 4 is it?

That will be a slow round :)

Yes, anyone I've played this year have all been 3 balls. Don't understand why they'd put them out in 4 balls especially since everyone is complaining of pace of play etc. Scratch cups are a great competition but if the experience is tarnished for slow pace of play then that won't entice players to return.

Dromoland is a 4 hour round at the best of times. Could be painfully slow

Muskerry Junior Scratch Cup Timesheet open. Check their website.
    Put meself down at 8.50am.

Played this today. Finished with a 79 happy enough with it as I didnt play that well and struggled at times. Holes 16 & 17 still out of action, the 2 spare holes they had in play are alright replacements though particularly the par 3 is a fine hole. The greens were lovely I thought. Overall the course was very nice and would expect good scoring

Yeah thought it was playing easy enough despite shooting 90 meself :) Just finished as the rain started.
I was 8 over for front nine. That included an 8 on the 2nd and a 7 on the 8th. Level par for other 7 holes.
Fell away on back nine because I was wrecked after walking up the 11th hole!!
Thought the greens were perfect alright.

Those 2 holes killed you. I'd a 7 on the 2nd hooked tee shot out of bounds. Was as sickener as you could reach that hole with two 8 irons!!

Did the same....only hooked 2 balls out of bounds. Ended with a good 8 :)

Was the fifth still out of play?
    Disgusted I didn't know about this as I think it's a testing track,some great holes-that par 3 7th?-suits my 3 wood fine(parred it last 2 times out).

It was the 16th and 17th that were out of play - that par 3 is usually the 6th (8th today) - straight into the wind, hit driver and barely made it on!!!

Rang up Dromoland. They're playing the scratch cups on Sunday in 4's alright. Madness in my opinion.
