Played in it myself, was +9 with 2 doubles and a treble. +5 won it with a finish of birdie, eagle, birdie, par. Some finish to win a tournament. SSS was 75 also not 76.

Nope CSS was 76. Club said 75 but golfnet has it at 76, reduction only. My cut has already been processed. The guy who won it was the guy I played in Junior Cup North Munster final. Heard he had that finish alright.

PS Possibility that there was a separate CSS for visitors given the number playing.

Yep, I can confirm guy who won it had that finish as he's also known as little redzah, he's catching up on the big bro and it's only a matter of time before he's better based on my game at the moment. Still a bit surprised he won it with that score although i suppose they normally set the course up difficult for scratch cups.

Anyone have the results for the senior scratch cup last weekend in Killarney?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,468 ✭✭✭matt-dublin

i found the greens very hard, had a birdie put on 8 (i think) before the par 3. just came up short of the cup and then the ball started rolling back and ended up 3 feet short of the green.

the rough was really dense, made it very difficult to chip i found.

I think you mean 7,I holed out for birdie from 20 feet above the hole,if it had missed I was prob 5 yards off the front, mad pin position that

yeah probably, by the time i got that far in the round id lost so much interest i wasn't even counting holes or scores anymore!

the heat was unreal as well, i went through 3 litres of water and a bottle of lucozade!

    hangover didn't really help!

Looking at JSCs for the August bank holiday since I'll have the place to myself and my home club are only running open fourballs each day which I've no interest in. Looks like there's plenty of options as per GUI site:

    Knockanally JSC 18 04/08/2012 €15
    Skerries JSC 36 04/08/2012 €30
    Kilcock JSC 18 04/08/2012 €15
    Kilcock JSC 18 05/08/2012 €15
    Woodenbridge JSC 18 06/08/2012 €35
    New Forest JSC 18 06/08/2012 €20
    Laytown & Bettystown JSC 36 06/08/2012 €20
    Donabate JSC 18 06/08/2012 €20
    Knightsbrook JSC 18 06/08/2012 €25

Have never played any of the above courses so it's a good opportunity to try and take the Mon off work and get in alot of golf but a few questions for you more experienced players:

Unusual to see the Kilcock JSC played over the Sat and Sun, how does that work in terms of selecting the winners, are scores adjusted based on CSS or is it just the luck of the draw depending on weather and playing conditions between the Sat and Sun?

I've heard Laytown & Bettytown is supposed to be a great course so €20 for 36 holes looks like great value. I've only ever played one 36 hole JSC before in Carlow and that had an unexpected lunch included in the interval, I'm presuming most 36 holes events don't have a lunch included unless advertised?

Woodenbridge is another course I've read great reviews on but €35 for an 18 hole JSC is a bit rich when their open days are advertised for €20. Anyone know if their JSC is 36 holes instead as sometimes the GUI site can have incorrect details (there's no info on their website apart from the price on the booking page)

What's Skerries like as a course, their scratch cup on the Sat is both a Senior and Junior so could be a good opportunity to play a round with some low handicap golfers.

At the moment I'm inclined to go for Skerries on the Sat, Kilcock on the Sun and Laytown and Bettstown on the Mon provided I can get that day off work and haven't lost all my golf balls before then.

Woodenbridges is more expensive because it's a top golfer JSC as far as I know

I'll be heading for Knightsbrook on the BH Monday. A repeat of last years 74 would do nicely!!

    .

I think Kilcock is luck of the draw ..you can play either Sat or Sunday. There is also Intermediate and Minor Scratch Cups on.

    How'd you fair out?

Had a shocker in the morning but was a bit more respectable in the afternoon with an 84 (net 75), was looking a lot better in the afternoon turning 3 over after 9 then had 3 doublers and 3 bogeys which messed up the card on the back.

greens were in great nick and rough was nice and dense!

cant complain about the course being bad on my poor performance this time!

    83/79

really struggled on the greens for the first 9 in the morn. no fault to them as they were really good surfaces, i just could not read the lines. in the aft just got a bit tired on the 2nd 9 a let a few silly ones go.

course was really good, as you say. playing long too..

Anyone any idea what the likely cut offs will be for Mullingar and Carlow SSC cups this year?

Playing Skerries this weekend, hopefully not as windy as last year!!

What time are you out at, playing in this also on the JSC side of things. Do you or anyone else know if there's a lunch included in the interval or should I fix me some sandwiches the night before? Information is very sparse on their website. Haven't played Skerries before so not sure what's in store but over 36 holes should at least learn the course.

Out early, 7.30 or 20 or something. Want to be back in to go to Croker on Saturday evening!

Last year there was lunch, im sure that it will be the same.

It's a lovely course, never played it in bad condition. The one thing I have probably been told anytime I have played it is stay below the pin on 4:D

Carlow cut off hasn't been especially low the last few years, I would guess anyone off 4.0 would get in regardless of whether or not they have a 'limit' of 3. Mullingar is a different story; you'd want to be a comfortable 2 handicap and probably less to have any chance of getting in.

Also playing Skerries on Saturday, looking forward to it if the weather is kind. And then the John Lumsden on Sunday in Royal Dublin, which has been reduced from 36 to 18 holes this year but still decent value at 30e. Anyone else playing?

    Not playing Sunday.

I was thinking the same for Mullingar, I have previously got in off 2 but has been tight, if not the waiting list.

Anyone have the results and standard scratch from skerries senior?

Rough was savage when it was wet

No don't see the results posted yet on their website and Skerries isn't on HowDidIDo. When I got in around 19:30 a 1 handicapper from Malahide was top of the leader with scores of 72&71 I think it was. Quite a big entry for the Senior Scratch by the looks of it.

Can't remember who was leading the Junior scratch except that it was a 5 handicapper, think scores were around 75&80. I'd a bit of a shocker day myself with scores in the high 80s, lost a few balls off the tee and was appalling chipping. Only saving grace was that the day turned out beautiful, wasn't out until near 10:30 so missed most of the heavy rain so it was rather warm with plenty of sunshine.

Disappointed lunch wasn't included, wouldn't have killed them to put on soup and sandwiches or equivalent. Despite playing badly liked the course and set up, it's a very pleasant track and although a bit soft underfoot in parts given the weather it plays fair. Will be back.

CSS was 74 in round 1 and 73 in round 2. 0.1 back for me I'm afraid; at least i scraped into the buffer for round 2. Made up for that today in Royal Dublin today I'm sorry to say...

Played the Junior Scratch in Tipperary Golf club yesterday. Have to say that it was the biggest waste of €20 I've ever spent. I understand a course needing the money but it was virtually unplayable. Phoned the pro shop to make sure it was open, shocked when they said yes so travelled down to play. Standing water everywhere, literally everywhere. Almost every lie you had you could of taken relief except there was nowhere to take it. Plugged balls in the fairway, buried in the rough. Not sure what the winning scores were for the rounds as Senior Junior Intermediate and Minor were all on. The course must be even worse now

I played on the Friday. Had an 81. Thought the course was in fine condition, enjoyable round

Are you sure it's 18 holes? GUI and Beech Park website both show it as 36 holes which would be great value for €15. Another course I've yet to play so hoping to get out but obviously number of holes in play is a decider on what tee time to select.

Had a 87 :( I was 9 over for the Par 5s. Had a 5,7,8 & 9 on them. Finished birdie, par birdie though which was pleasing.

Course was in great nick alright. Got one very bad shower that flooded the 13th green but by the time we got to 14th all the surface water was gone.
    Love the course.
