    They're no Super Mario Bros.

    The Dark Knight Rises
    Brave
    Prometheus
    The Avengers
    The Amazing Spiderman

In that order. Himizu, The Raid and Mr. Lazhar were better than all of them.

Captain America was pretty great, Avengers was lots of fun, looks like there's a possibility of a Thomas Jane Punisher movie... maybe...
Thor was fun, the two Ironman films were good too.
I'd like to suggest that expectations for masterpieces is a little unreasonable, the closest to superhero perfection must be the first two Superman movies.
But would they, by today's standards sfx aside, be a wholly uncriticised series?

Forget about decent super hero movies, lets see a good superman game!

Did you watch the 10 minute punisher short with Thomas Jane in it? I thought it was good.

The trailer for the new superman looks ok, they are going down the broody batman road it seems.

The first two superman films are classics, especially the richard donner cut of the second one.

I always liked Superman 3... if you ignore most of the Richard Pryor stuff then it has a lot going for it.

I always liked Superman Returns, but mostly because the opening credits were amazing.

Frightened the crap out of me when your woman was turned into a cyborg, still gives me the heebie jeebies!

"The one thing I can't stand is... greed", classic Robert Vaughn line from Supes 3, as well when he comments on what sort of idiot would draw attention to himself after embezzling the millions from his company, before Pryor comes roaring into the parking lot with his Ferrari.
Also, the Supes Vs Kent fight was pretty good, tbh it felt like it was out of a different, better movie than the one we got.

The less said about Superman 4 the better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

Yeah. The cyborg was terrifying. Makes you wonder how cool it would have been if we'd gotten a proper Brianiac as the villian like originally planned.

The dirty superman was great as well.

    I'd rather Supergirl though....

The Supergirl movie had it's moments as well.

Did you know that Superman 4 originally had a crappy Bizzaro Superman in it?

I think the worst of many crimes in that scene (product placement, crappy effects, generally awfulness) might be the soundtrack. It might only be temporary, but it sounds like a seven year old's first piano lesson.

Jeez that clip is diabolical. The product placement is almost on par with I, Robot. Except Will Smith said something along the lines of "Grandma, check out my new sneakers, they are 2004 Converse hi tops. I love these!" and Christopher Reeve didn't say "Say, robot lad, lets pause for a moment and head in to Burger King for a Whopper and Coca Cola! Don't worry, my skintight leotard has no pockets so I've no cash on me, but we can use my new American Express credit card with 0% interest for 6 months to pay for our hearty meal!".

Based on the above, Superman IV is a better film than I, Robot.

    But my God, that music...

Blade 3 was on the other night.

The Apple product placement in that is easily the worst product placement in cinema history.

    Of course you do....

It did have Peter Cooke and Peter O'Toole in it, so it wasn't all ba.... oh who am I kidding it was awful.

Best thing about it is the images that Google offers up when you search for "Supergirl"

No collection would be complete without Roger Corman's Fantastic Four movie:

Still the best, by a distance.

    Indian Superman comes close though...

Japanese Sega Saturn pad on it's way to me from OwaynOTT.

Now the question is do I use it as is (grey with coloured buttons) or do I transpart it's innerds to my non working official Pal controller?

I'm sure to break somebody's brain with this... my money is on EnterNow. :-)

Why would you? The japanese saturn pad is pretty much the greatest gampad ever made.

Honestly? To fit in with the colour scheme of the console.

What's so different between the japanese pad and the original PAL model 2 pad?

Ah, it's a model 2, that's ok. The model 1's are disgusting though.

Yeah, those pads were something that popped out of a conference room in Sega America, populated by people who never played a game in their lives that didn't involve either a racket or a golf club.
It was/is awful, looks terrible, feel terrible to handle and so on.
    Yuk!

    Worst pad of all though?
    Jaguar?

    Colecovision?

    CD32?
    CD32%20PAD2.jpg

No, this is the worst controller ever, it hurts to use it the right way!

What was that namco controller for? O_O
Im guessing Ridge Racer or something?

Wasnt there also one that turned in the middle?

Why did you have to bring up the NeGCon. He'll be waxing lyrical about it now!

Jaguar is really bad. It would have been a tiny bit better if it had some weight to it.
The CD32 wasn't as bad as all that. Sure it looks rough but actually using it wasn't as bad as you might think. I do prefer my Competition pro on the CD32 though.

You forgot this controller which sucks a$$

Ah, the Negcon, pure controller bliss.
Thanks for bringing it up Retr0, you're a pal....

Now, the Negcon, made by Namco principally for Ridge Racer but it was also compatible with most of the racers of the 1st and 2nd generation of PS1 games, before the Analog and DualShock made their way to our shores.
The Negcon provided and amazing array of control for the racer enthusiast.
Three analogue buttons, including two face buttons and the right shoulder button (the left had travel but was digital) plus an excellent analogue twist function in the middle.
This was already seen in PC peripherals, such as the Sidewinder stick, with it's twisting function, but on the Negcon it really found a home, permitting accurate steering in a compact form factor.
Well worth picking up, it really does improve you performance in the Ridge Racer games, Need for Speed 3 and Road Challenge as well as the first couple of Wipeout games, in particular the latter, it lets you steer with analogue precision while using the d-pad to control the pitch of the craft and easy access to the shoulder buttons for finessing the airbrakes.
And here is one of those beauties!

Once again, thanks to Retr0 for affording me the opportunity to babble on about my favourite controller of all time, you're a pal!! ;)

Be careful with 2nd hand Negcons, the resistance is simple elastic resistance to rubber and this will degrade with use, so some are a tad slack and flaccid..... age catches up with us all... :(
