    Rheinisch knocked off top spot. Still looking good for qualification though.

    Eoin drops to 5th with the top 5 in the world still to come. In terms of qualification though, he is well positioned.

    Rheinisch has been pushed back a bit now (currently lying in 6th). Wonder if he can improve his time later on.

    Great result in the sailing. Race 2 was supposed to start at 15.10, I think it has just started now due to the delay in Race 1.

    Pity about the overall Dressage score, but the 2 women did quite well, and hopefully they can all pull it up a bit in the Cross Country and Jumping.

    Eoin ends up 6th - that means he is ahead of 10 competitors ranked higher than he is in the world rankings, including the world numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4.

    Great stuff from him so far.

    Ireland are the early leaders in race two in the Star class.

    How does the sailing work. Do you discard your worst score or do you discard your best and worst score?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 543 ✭✭✭Truman Burbank

    1 = Holland = Marianne Vos
    2 = GB = lizzie armitstead
    3 = Russia = Olga Zabelinskaya

    Who was 3rd in race 1?

    Probably a silly question, but they don't use the same horses for all the events do they?

    GB got their first medal there in the women's road race. Armistead got silver, just missed out on gold in the sprint finish.

    10 races....worst score discarded, then top 10 contest the medal race with points from previous races still counting.

    On a negative note here is a depressing tweet from Sunday Sport:

    sundaysport
    A source close to Sailor Peter O'Leary confirm he is the athlete at centre of betting story...they call it a "naive mistake"

    I didn't think it would be a sailor.

    They still lead race two, Denmark second.

    What sort of weighting does the medal race get in relation to the other 9 scoring races for each team?

    No there are 10 races and then the medal race.....I think it might be double points for medal race but not 100% sure on that.

    Generally, how long do each of these races go on? I see we have a nice lead but have no idea how long is left to go.

    Yes, it's double points in the medal race I believe.

    We are a quarter of the way through this race at the first mark.

    Wow, talented horses. They should get the medals ;)

    It sounds like no rules were broken, and it was four years ago.

    Certainly a 'naive mistake' alright, hopefully it's left at that now.

    Shock in the gymnastics qualifiers as USA sweep the qualifiers as expected but Jordyn Weiber doesn't make the AA finals. Only two from each team can make the finals and she was 3rd best on team USA. She looks devastated.

    Breaking: Dennis Lynch's appeal thrown out.

    This is the description of the competition: "In fleet racing, each event has a series of races. Points are awarded in each race: first scores one point, second scores two points, etc.

    After 10 races (15 races in the Skiff event), points from the worst race are discarded. The remaining points are added together.

    The 10 best athletes/crews then advance to the medal race. Points are doubled, so first place gets two points, second gets four, etc. The points total after the medal race determines the placings.

    The athlete/crew with the lowest number of points is the winner."

    Ireland having a slow run down wind, falling back now. 3rd at the second mark.

    Ireland fallen well back into the field now, French and Greeks who did well in the first race struggling in the second.

    looks promising for rheinisch considering some of the top 'paddlers' couldnt beat his score, hope he improves it in the second run.
