Rural location no UPC so options are sky or foreign satellite set up.

I wouldn't recommend Setanta if you want to watch the United matches. Yes, they do show United about every third week but there is no chance that you'll see any of the bnig United matches being played at 3 o clock on a Saturday. eg. United vs. the big 4.

For the price of a Setanta subscription you could easily get a Cyfra+ subscription. That coupled with BBC radio 5live and talksport through your laptop (using VPN or something similar) and you'd have almost every United match. (I missed 2 last year using this system.)

You'd also have to invest in a bigger dish and a different receiver though which would set you back a bit but after the start up costs of the first year. Foreign satellite is much cheaper in the preceeding years.

OP said he wanted a simple system for his elderly father, i don't think the hassle of looking up Englsih commentry on the net and plugging a laptop into speakers is simple for OP's elderly father?

Sorry, didn't notice that it was for father.

To have english commentary on the Premier League this season is going to be difficult especially with the way that it was clamped down on last year.

The best bet will probably wait until the season starts to see what the story is across Europe and who if anyone is broadcasting through English.

Thanks for the advise guys, i might just go with a non english speaking card.

    Wheresmejumpa,

I have the same set-up as Sob and use Cyfra from Poland receivable on Hotbird, but its not in English but is the cheapest by far - they showed Id say 97% of Man U matches last year - I think the cost is about €150 for next year - check out satskelp

In addition, the Cyrfa Card will work in the Ariva box. Im only using Cyrfra SD but u can also get the HD version.

There is no English Premier League football on Al-Jazeera.

If u want English premiership with English commentary u will have to pay a hell of a lot more money.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Iba

What provider is best for Chelsea and Arsenal fans?>me and my housemate are looking to make big savings for next season?any advice?

I don't have a scientific answer! I know cyfra show lots of united, but i also felt that they showed a lot of arsenal games (and spent most of the game banging on about the polish players.)
I also thought that Sport 1 in Russia on a Platforma sub showed lots of Chelsea. Assuming because of the connection there.

Those are both just things that struck me and i wouldn't base a purchase on the situation staying the same. i would still go with cyfra as getting a platforma sub outside of Russia can be prohibitive and no English on any channels.

Yes. Cyfra showed quite a few Arsenal games last season. It helps to have two Polish goalkeepers I suppose.

    Hi,

just looking at renewing my Cyrfa Card. Looks like this is the one Id need on Satskelp for €158 for the year:

    http://satsklep.pl/en_US/p/Cyfra-MULTIPACKAGE-HD-13-months/689

but looking on the Cyfra website, they have a 50% promotion on now across all their packages and I saw this:

    http://www.cyfraplus.pl/oferta/detale#type4

41zt per month (I think) works out at €117 a year.

Can anyone confirm what Im saying and also is it possible to buy from Cyfra direct or how could I get this card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Iba

i think you will find thats with a direct debit each month and not a pre pay card. Im just back from Poland and all the networks have offers on at the moment. You would need a Polish Bank account and a Polish address for that offer im afraid.

Different sub, its prepaid. The Sub iba was on about was only relevant to a monthly subscription (Like sky here). Like I said all the Polish networks have offers on this summer. N, Polsat & Cyfra.

Prepay options are out there in Poland as you would be surprised by the amount of people that dont have bank accounts there. Also makes things easier for ex pats.

It probably will work, but you'll have to point your dish at a different satellite.

Have I missed something or why do foreign broadcasters have to have this premier league logo at the bottom and sky UK etc don't? I know its from after the famous court case, but surely all broadcasts should be carrying it to protect the copyright? Or has sky/espn etc been exempted to still allow them to be shown outside their broadcasting area?

Setanta also don't carry the logo, as far as I'm aware it's the world-feed/foreign providers that must carry it that's not on 28e.

I would have thought that Setanta would have had to though

Seems to be only European providers. I saw a clip of the man city game on the internet via fox sports, that had no logo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 223 ✭✭xxyyxx

It's not just European. ESPN in Asia definitely have it too.
