Thats perhaps true but most of the tv providers are halfway through a 3 year tv contract .
Removing rights now mid contract seems a breach of contract but perhaps the FA have allowed for that in the small print.
It seems only Viasat Baltic is affected,Viasat Scandinavia viewing is unchanged.

They must have something in the contract, or they have been paid as viasat were selling these packages for the term so they have made their money. And they were always going to lose the contract on renewel as every pub as this package.

Without searching through this thread. I’d like to know:

Is it still worth setting up a satellite for foreign channels for Premier League games?

If so, where can I find a simple how to guide. I’d actually pay someone to do it if anyone provided the service.

Currently have Sky and there just isn’t enough games on.

    Thanks in advance!

Viasat Baltic had all their 3pm matches blocked last weekend.
    According to Lj-Sport,
Is this the beginning of the end for 3pm matches across Europe ?

I highly doubt it, the European and international EPL market is huge. It will be too costly for the EPL to do this. The 3pm saturday slot is dead handy for euro channels showing games as a lot of mainland games are shown at different times (I.E Spanish, Italian leagues). The bubble is fit to burst in regards to the EPL, the game is getting too money orientated. Euro channels will stop buying rights if they are going to be dictated to by the FA/EPL. Freesat and soarview is also having an impact here in Ireland, with people moving away from pay tv as they are cutting back. I for one would rather listen to a match on the radio now than go back to days of watching 2 or 3 games a weekend on UK/Irish TV. The EPL coverage over the Christmas period on UK/Irish TV was horrific also.

it might be awkward then to buy a card this year when rights might change next year?

Rights don't change until after the football season ends, so nearly a full year from now.

Just wonder with the restrictions that were put in last season with certain broadcasters loosing some 3pms etc. How's it looking for this coming season? Is it the same as it ended last?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 478 ✭✭davidom2513

Viasat have got the rights for the next 3 years anyway for 380 games

    http://www.mtg.se/en/media/press-releases/mtg-acquires-tv-rights-to-english-premier-league-football-in-sweden-and-denmark-until-2016/

Not much use for people here in Ireland though, unless your in the east

If anyone hears of the amount of games other broadcasters have, post it up

That group will have channels on 1w, just like they have done for the past two years.

Not entirely sure but I'd say that the season after next will keep the foreign providers happy.... all be it without English audio on 99% of the foreign providers channels.

The 3pm games is the attraction for the pubs, both here & the UK to get the foreign sub.

    We shall see I suppose

According to Tring, they'll have 360 premier league games next season

I wonder will they have the same problem as last year with the 3pm games?

Tring broadcast terrestrially in Albania too so perhaps they show more matches on that than on satellite ?

Since the new batches of rights are for after this forthcoming season, what Tring are bragging about is their existing rights. No news yet of who gets the rights for the 3 seasons after (I'd imagine DigitAlb will fight to get those rights back? Assuming they've money)

Whether they'll have 3pm games with that "special card" at 16E, or just terrestrially like Zardoz says, will be interesting to see.

About to make the jump to foreign satellite. Local dish installer lined up to install but he is leaving the card and reader up to me. Just want to confirm what I'm buying is accurate.

    80 cm dish
    Ferguson Ariva 120
    Al Jazeera card

This is for my father so want English commentary and want renewals as cheap as possible. Going to a single room.

    Am I missing anything?

What sort of thing is he after? English soccer? The channels he'll want will dictate what bird your dish will be aimed at. Or maybe you're going multi-LNB or motor?

Take a nosy through this thread, as it's more recent. Many seem to be opting again for Al Jazeera and Cyfra+ for their mix of football (and some films in English on Cyfra)

    Dang.

What's the best card for English commentary? I really need a simple set up for him. No extra box for radio commentary.

Maybe he would be better off just getting Setanta Ireland? I notice they seem to have a nice mix of Sat 3pms for Man U & United games?

Rural location no UPC so options are sky or foreign satellite set up.
