Best of luck with it. What time are you out? I'm playing the Minor Scratch Cup down there. First time ever playing a Scratch Cup.
Cheers, I'm out at 10:52. Best of luck to you too. Remember although it's a Scratch Cup, it's the same game you play every week :). Nice to play somewhere different with a few new people.

We can compare notes on Monday. Here's hoping we can post a good one and strike a blow for Boards :)

Playing the Inter Scratch Cup tomorrow at Killeen in Kildare. Just about scrape qualification at 9.6 :). Anyone else playing it? Course looks nice enough.

Played it last year, plays quite long off the blues, tough stretch from 2-7 and 15-18 , plenty of water, nice greens, enjoy it.

played tralee scratch cup yesterday. Good weather by and large in fairness and the course was in superb condition. The rough was very very punishing due to the rain caused it to be very thick and turned over the club often.

Very enjoyable and great value at 35euro as well.

I see there's an 18 hole JSC in Moyvalley next Sun 15th Jul, €25 which includes a €5 food voucher. Online timesheet seemed faulty as showed it as a 3 person team with the only facility to book an entire line so rang the club to enter. Never played the course before but it's supposed to be good and long so should be interesting, forgot to ask what tees they'd be using as it looks like a beast from the blues.

Decent track, I enjoyed it. Weather was fairly cat at the start, for the 1st 5 holes was raining persistently. Placing on the Fairways, pity I didn't hit many :). I struggled a bit off the tee, started with a Par but treble bogeyed the 2nd after a bad slice and failed to take my medicine. Up & down round from then on, a few doubles, a few Birdies & an even enough spattering of Pars & Bogeys. Clawed back to about +9 with a couple of Birdies but the Index 1 15th did me in.

What a fantastic Par 4. O.B left from tee to green, lateral water hazards right off tee and up right of the green from about 100yds out. I lost my tee shot OB left, ripped a provo up the left center of the Fairway, pulled out my 3 wood, struck it well and didn't manage to carry the green so splashed into Hazard short right. Snowman! That was a real golf hole... played with a member who had a Par on it, only 4 Pars & 1 Birdie on the hole all day. This fella threw it away, finished 4th with a +10 82 but dropped 5 shots on 12 & 13 out of nowhere after being rock solid all day. Car crash stuff really but he was delighted overall. Nice chap too.

Would go back, facilities v. ordinary but an interesting course, kept me engaged all the way even though my golf was fairly bad.

Super value at €35. Never played it before so was looking forward to it for ages. It didn't disappoint. Was out at 11am, weather wasn't great for first 12 or so holes. I was in a two ball, took 4 hrs 45 mins but the slow play didn't bother me really. It let me enjoy the scenery even more.
Shot 93 but actually played alot better than that.

Played Mallow today in JSC. Shot 79, which included four 3-putts and a 6 at the easy 14th. Have to say Mallow was in great nick too. Greens were excellent.

Didn't manage to strike any blow for Boards unfortunately. My driving let me down, particularly on the back 9. Have been slicing them for a while. Got a lesson during the week which was aiming to give me a more right to left ball flight. Tried it out today and hit some right, some left and some straight so didn't know where it was going! Went out of bounds a few times on the back 9 which proved costly. Finished with 102 gross and 83 nett. :( First time I've been over 100 in a long time.

One of the few positives was on the first par 3 when I hit the green with a 3 wood. Still had a long putt and left it a foot or so short but got my par. Also on the 16th I put my first drive out of bounds but still managed a bogey with my 2nd ball so that was nice. Pity about the weather. Scores in the minor weren't great. 97 gross got 3rd.

Was out just before 10am, it was slow alright but there are worse courses to have a slow round on. Got off to a nightmare 8 on the first but settled and played well with pars and bogeys for the rest of the front 9. Lost a ball OB left on the 8th but birdied the second ball.

Back nine started well, par par & birdie for index 1 12th. Then lost the plot, had a double on the par 3 13th, followed by and 7 & 8 on the next two par 4's & a 3 putted the next par 3!! Finished with 2 pars. CSS was 74. Wound up with 77 net so no .1 back. Very happy with that.

Besides the meltdown in the middle of the back nine, I had a great time. Weather was a bit crap for the first 14 holes but what a great course. €35 is a bargain.

Played Mount Temple Junior Scratch at the weekend. played well, but had an 8 on the 16th. Greens were very slow, but apart from that, it's a nice course. Not too difficult.

No idea what won it in the end though.

ahh Heartbreak Hill. Only hole in the country that I f'n detest big time!!! I hit the bunker with my second shot once and when I chipped out my ball landed just off the green and ended up 50 foot behind me:mad: Chipped up again, ball rolled back to my feet!!! 3rd attempt landed miles the far side of the green.

I have a new approach to that hole now - 3 wood off tee, 9 iron to this side of the drain, 7 iron up the hill to the back of the green, chip on and 2 putt. Bogey is a great score on that damm hole!!

I notice this thread is no longer a sticky but played Moyvalley JSC in breezy conditions off the white tees on Sun. Course markets itself as an inland links and somewhat reminiscent of the Carton House Montgomerie course with a few less bunkers but still with the long tough rough. Overall though I found the course more interesting with a nice array of holes and a sublime finish with holes 16, 17 and 18.

In saying that though the greens although running true were pretty pok marked from poorly repaired pitch marks (actually when I played Carton House last year I noticed the same pok marks so perhaps it's relating to the type of grass). The big problem however were the bunkers which were very hard with little sand and therefore somewhat of a lottery trying to hit out of.

Played reasonable finishing with an 82 but a 7 on the par 4 11th killed me, pushed my 2nd shot right into one of the green side bunkers and flew from there across the green into another bunker and from there off the green again, not pleasant. Also never managed to sink any putt longer than 5 foot so you'll never feature with such a poor performance on the greens. Results haven't been posted yet but I heard there was a 76 in which was nice shooting in the breeze but conditions were facilitated as they were playing placing everywhere.

Is anyone playing the Junior Scratch events this weekend?

Roganstown has a Top Golfer 18 hole one on Saturday, and Royal Tara has 36 holes on Sunday.

Have to travel to Limerick this weekend thus missing our President's Prize on the Sun but in return get to play the JSC in Castletroy, supposed to be a lovely course.

Roganstown's JSC according to the GUI site is €35 for 18 holes, bit saucey since their opens are usually €25. Along with the 36 holer in Royal Tara on Sun for €30 there's also an 18 holer JSC in Old Conna marked at €15 which is a bit strange since their Intermediate was €25.

Played my first JSC in Castletroy at the weekend. Windy conditions, off the blues (first time I've played a course off the blues). I had a godawful start - double bogey, double bogey, bogey, bogey. Worst start to a game of golf in two years I would say. Managed to steady the ship and shot +3 for the remaining 14 holes. Ended up +9. +5 won with +7 taking the last gross prize so I'm figuring I was in the top 10 or so. For such a terrible start I was delighted coming off the course at having kept the head and playing so well coming in. Really should have shot level par for the back nine but missed two six footers for birdies on 13 and 14. Anyway, really enjoyed the experience. Only my second time playing Castletroy (played it Friday for a warm up). Really lovely course. Fantastic greens which are absolutely lethal. CSS turned out to be 76 so got cut 0.2 to bring me to my lowest to date - 5.5.

Well done that's great shooting from the 5th and unlucky to miss out on the prizes given the start. I played in this also and think I had my worst round of the year so far with an embarrassing round of 96. Was in all sorts of trouble off the tee pulling and pushing my drivers to where ever the trouble lied resulting in a frantic effort to try and find the ball and then hack out sideways. As bad as I was off the tee my short game was even worse culminating in a total of eight 3 putts on the speedy greens. Not sure what the cause of the problems were as I'd been putting well the past few weeks and I certainly can't blame the greens as they were consistent and true and rolling beautifully. It was just one of those days and best forgotten but nice to have played Castletroy in the process. It's not an overly long course even off the blues and in the wind so if playing again I think I'd play it a little differently to try and avoid some of the trouble which is not always evident from the tee. Some nice holes and generally thought the back nine was better in terms of the variety of holes and changes in distance/elevation.

Played in it myself, was +9 with 2 doubles and a treble. +5 won it with a finish of birdie, eagle, birdie, par. Some finish to win a tournament. SSS was 75 also not 76.

Nope CSS was 76. Club said 75 but golfnet has it at 76, reduction only. My cut has already been processed. The guy who won it was the guy I played in Junior Cup North Munster final. Heard he had that finish alright.

PS Possibility that there was a separate CSS for visitors given the number playing.

no but it was tough out there, between the hangover and the heat i gave up after i double bogeyed the first two holes! our playing partner gave up after 13 holes and walked in. My other playing partner though had a 77 i think though.

Rough was tough alright,I played all the tough holes well and messed up on the easier ones,I had 82,I'd say 77 wasn't far off,I'd expect a 75 or so to win
Looking forward to Greystones this Sunday
