The Northern Ireland accent is probably the most annoying accent in the world. I switch station on tv or radio whenever any of those politicians or golfers are on.

A grim, grating Belfast accent is pretty hard on the ears but there is no universal "Northern Ireland" accent.

Like in the south there are regional variations. In north-east Ulster the accent sounds quite Scottish, in fact.

+1, with my pale Irish skin. Rain I don't mind, if it came without the 'fresh' breeze - perfect

The Rolling Stones are the most over rated band ever. They had a few good songs about 30 years ago, and that's about it.

The recession was more our fault than the government or the banks

The old 'Ar, shure, didn't we all lose the run of ourselves' argument... cheap credit was given to absolute spastics with not the first clue of how to handle money and who frittered it away obscenely but the fact is that the banks were lending out money to people they shouldn't have at an unsustainable rate and the government turned a blind eye to it through their lack of regulation so no, I don't buy the notion that it wasn't the fault of the banks or government. They could have chosen to stem the flow of cash that they were giving to these absolute morons but they didn't.

30? Try 45 years ago! I skip through half of the greatest hits, not a patch on the Beatles or the Who

Teenagers shouldn't be allowed to be mothers , maybe take the kid off them until they're mature enough to be mothers ... Perhaps when they turn 20/21

I assume you don't know too many teen parents. I know many young Mother's who are amazing parents, and I know lots of older Mother's who are terrible and should never have had kids. Your age plays no part on whether you are a good Mother or not.

Woah man. I certainly think you need to actually grow up at the same time as these bands to truly appreciate the cultural significance they represent. My mum is a huge Beatles fan, and she was one of the screaming teenagers you see on those old clips. Zeppelin influenced all of rock music for two decades from the end of the psychedelia fuelled ethics of the 60's to the weed toting 70's. The Rolling Stones introduced British rock/pop culture to the world, helping to establish it as a viable centre for musical creativity and in my mind epitomise the feeling of 1960's.

It's very hard to look at these bands as a 90's or 80's child and truly appreciate what they have done for the music industry.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I like them and all but they just wouldn't be one of my favourite bands.

Notch it up a few degrees. I love the sun and being Irish, I shall never complain about it. 30-35 is what I want. Throughout the whole summer.

I'm probably going to get battered for this but I don't get the big thing about Bruce Springsteen. Every year he's over here playing for five or six hours and you have all sorts like Matt Cooper and Tom Dunne on the radio saying " I can't wait to see him, he's so great". It's music for part time music lovers.
He's only slightly less annoying than music snobs.

    There's music snobbery for ya;)

What sun? It's been overcast and humid here anyway. At least if it was sunny and clear it would be a whole load more enjoyable.

The last few days here in the Fairest of Cities were nice. Alas, the suns decided to fuck off. Ah, well. It was nice when it lasted.

AC/DC are a terrible band. One of the worst ever.

Michael jackson was not a pedophile. There is nothing wrong with sharing a bed with kids. (although it's incredibly unconventional) and I don't believe for a second that he felt any of them up.

I also think that he never had a bad song. Ever. I even love everything on the HIStory, Invincible and MICHAEL albums.

Either you're incredibly naive or you're simply at it.

    I'm not sure which.

I'm not at it, whatever that means :L I just really don't think he did it. And when I say theres nothing wrong with sharing a bed with kids I mean there's nothing illegal about it. Obviously its not right :L But I don't think he felt any of them up. In my opinion the kids were put up to it by their parents.

I don't remember saying the Banks /Government were blameless.

What I said was, I feel that those who created the demand are more to Blame. Credit agreements are explict in what is expected of those receiving loans/Mortgages etc. Its very hard to account for idiots who don't take what they were signing more seriously.

The demand was unprecedented, as were the consequences. Of course, regulations were inadequate and the Government / Banks should done more. It's too easy in retrospect to apportion the blame to the few instead of the many who actually created the demand in the first place. But there ya have it - my unpopular opinion :)

Demand that was also created by the banks. Banks set enormous sales targets every month for their staff and pre-approved massive loans for people on low incomes. The reason house prices shot up was because of the amount of money banks were willing to give out to people so I would apportion a huge amount of the blame on the banks. I'm not saying people are blameless when a good portion were absolutely moronic in their borrowing and are paying the price now.

Remember the general view of banks a decade ago was completely different to what it is now. Banks were blue chip companies which had a reputation of being conservative and steadfast and if they were giving you money they obviously thought you were good for it, right?

Nobody held a gun to people's heads but the lax regulation of the banks meant that these institutions were giving out huge sums of money to people who would never be able to pay it back and now we are all reaping the rewards of that.

The demand for money is always going to be there, just now the banks are not giving out money.

Setting sales targets for staff or pre-approving loans does not initiate a demand. They are actions to answer a demand thats already there and to secure their position to meet it.

Seriously, there's always going to be a demand for money - it's up to the banks whether they choose to take the risk of giving their money to you. During the tiger era, they created more demand for loans by pre-approving them and awarded the sales people with the most loans secured by giving them holidays. The banks were flush with easy credit and were trying their hardest to offload it onto their customers. 6 years ago I was being pre-approved for a loan of roughly half my yearly wage - something I never took them up on. It was absolute insanity.

Since when does being able to sing matter? Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Mick Jagger, Lou Reed and Rick Astley all can't sing. But music legends

Stick with the x-factor, leave the real music to the adults :D
