For all the people calling for psych tests there is probably no better judge than gun professionals at detecting the nuts.

Pity the gun store didn't have any gun professionals on that day.......... or did they...

The guns were bought on the internet I believe, however you do need to ship firearms to a FFL (ie a gunstore) for collection. Don't you think refusal of membership of a range should set a flag? I'd support some controls around that - perhaps it should trigger an evaluation before continued gun ownership is allwed.

Is a 'psych" test performed by a professional psychologist required in Ireland, or any other part of Europe, before you can obtain a firearm?

    Yep.

    Health requirement in Czech Republic
    Health clearance
It is also necessary to present the approval from the applicant's general practitioner that they are physically and mentally fit to own and carry gun. It is fully up to the person's doctor whether he insists on them to go through psychological testing. In reality, the psychological test is rarely requested.

France and Spain have medical exams (incl psych) and Germany has a psych test for under 25s

Not in Ireland. You have to give your GP's contact details and the names of two character referees.

I don't think it's necessary in the UK either.

They showed his court appearance on Sky News live from Denver, he was completely out of it, really spaced out. So creepy
It looks kind of evident that he was pumped up on narcotics during the court appearance, he couldn't even talk and just look at the state of his eyes. FFS.

One would have thought that they would let him at least come down to earth for the court appearance.

He was probably on the similar drugs when he appeared at the staged shootings.

Is there any word about "motive" or anything? Usually much quicker to find out than this.

The upcoming UN treaty on small arms being signed this Friday seems like the only motive I see behind this killing.

    Sort of......

Due to the rifle's modular design, one upper receiver can quickly and easily be substituted for another. There are many aftermarket upper receivers that incorporate barrels of different weights, lengths and calibers. Some available calibers for the AR-15 platform are the .223 Remington/5.56x45mm, .45 ACP, 5.7x28mm, 6.5 mm Grendel, .338 Lapua,[14] 6.8 mm Remington SPC,[15], .50 Beowulf and .50 BMG.[16] It is not recommended to chamber the 5.56x45 NATO into a rifle designated 223 Remington, due to the slightly increased chamber pressure in the 5.56mm cartridges, the two calibers are similar, but not identical.

There are dozens of chamberings and calibres available in AR-15 configurations. Rifles absolutely *do* come in "sizes".

You forgot to mention Wolves in your previous post. One of the main reasons I carry a firearm at work

How many people have been killed by humans in your area and how many by wolves, and then tell me why wolves are one of the main reasons you carry a firearm, quoting wolves as a reason for carrying firearms is about as sensible as quoting lightning, if you said I carry a firearm because there are a lot of assholes out there that would be fine, but wolves ? that's lol ridiculous

I don't think its a CT to suggest he was sedated. He looks very sedated.

Bear in mind this man is very intelligent and committed a crime that required a lot of planning and technical no-how. The guy we seen in court today, would not be capable of it if he was in that state all the time.

The fact he was on suicide watch could be an explanation of why he was sedated.

He works in the wilderness of the pacific north west. He doesn't expect to meet wolves down at the supermarket. Attacks by healthy wolves on humans are extremely rare yes but I think its fair to say they would be a more formidable threat than a lone grizzly if they do choose to attack.

Reminds me of the Monty Python argument. Gainsaying is the automatic contradiction of anything which is said. The post which you quote and announce you couldn't be arsed to read does not say 'no you're wrong', but instead brings up some practical questions which must be addressed in order to attain your desired endstate. Waving a magic wand and saying 'there must be changes' is a wonderful political soundbite, but lacks a little of the practical realities.

Unless you are prepared to explain how something is to be done, don't bother suggesting it at all: You have contributed nothing to the conversation.

I'm still not interested in what you have to say and your Monty Python reference is as redundant as anything else that you've written.

I have already offered some points on what can be done to tighten up the current situation, which in all honesty is quite ridiculous.

YOU, on the other hand have just offered bull****.

Your position stilll sounds like "Your daughter was shot in the back? Fuck her...I don't care, so long as I have my toys to play with"

I'm currently living in Arizona. I've never owned a gun, never fired a gun and hope to never have to fire one BUT if I was to settle down here, I would buy one.

There's a lot of things around here that can get ya if they want. Bobcats, Snakes, Bears, Coyotes, Mountain Lions etc.

I've only been here a few months and have already seen a big oul snake. There's been a few bear attacks up North.

Everyone should read Jason Alexanders blog about it. It's great.

Try not to shoot the coyotes old chap, we have learned to live with them and they do a good job of keeping down the bunnies in my backyard. However if a pack did get aggressive Kirby wants me to trap them :)
