I was able to join another server but i had to create a brand new character which annoyed me as im assuming that means i lost everything from my previous.

Update must have screwed it, plus im getting a crap ton of those aforementioned artifacts.

might not have been running on the hive, might have been seperate from it. loaded into a different server there and i got in but it took a loooong time so im trying again on boards

Having the same problem with waiting for character to create for an hour now. I was on it all day no problem. The server has gone from almost full to 18 people in the last 30 minutes so I'm guessing no one is getting in

i was getting the "waiting for character" on IE1, i restarted Arma , then i got in ( i left it for nearly 10 minutes on teh waiting screen just before doing this.
The hive is just slow, is PVP Primetime.

I was in CHerno for the last 30 minutes, saw a sniper in ghillie and his mate leaving it west 5 minutes ago, i gave chase but they were gone once i reached them.. I was after his suit too... Hehe.. (I wasn't a bandit before tonight , too many Kill On Sight folks out there, and I cant beat them)

I'm trying a complete reinstall of Steam and ARMA. Here goes another 15 gig download!

are you on steam?
goto the folder and right click the arma2oa.exe , and click the Details tab, version is about half way down.

The location for instance on my pc is:

"D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe

You can also look on the bottom right of the opening Arma screen, the one with Singleplayer , Multiplayer ,Options buttons. the main menu basically

backup up the files from steam first! you can save yourself the download.

then restore them after you reinstall steam and verify through steam they are right.

I had them backed up but I think that somehow caused the problem. I'm hoping a fresh start fixes things, if not I give up!

I have been getting the "waiting for character.." message for the last 30 minutes.

but i just got back into the game by joining a different server... "Hosted by Tansien" server. its a 60 player swedish server, try it.

Im going to try and get back into the Irish server now that my character has been created..

Edit - No joy with the Irish server, needs a reboot maybe?

as long a you verify them on Steam they should be ok.. The only files in the game folders that change are the added mods and the beta folders everything else is pretty static.

you could try and deleting [renaming would be a safer option] your config files as Arma should recreate those;

Look in \My Documents\Arma 2\ arma2oa.cfg

and your player config [same folder]

It's a shame the boards server is broken. Always a good solid player count on most of the time.

So I downloaded and installed the 95054 patch from here:

http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

but the server screen is still telling me I need 95054.

I think the last time I updated to match the boards server number I had to make a separate shortcut and run that.

Edit: It seems I can still use that shortcut and I have carried out the following:

* It will install all beta content to a mod folder "Expansion\Beta", including the beta exe (that has to be run properly with working directory set to the main game installation, see below for more information)

* To launch Arma2 Operation Arrowhead beta patch you need to go to the main game directory and click on shortcut "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch"

Any help?

Yeah am trying to join at the moment and im getting stuck at the "waiting for character to create" screen. I'd say it just needs a restart

Interesting post here which sums up my feelings on the game at the moment.

I now no longer bother to sneak around zombies. Just run from barn to barn and even with an axe you can dispatch anything that happened to be following you.

Simply not true. Zeds might not be much of a direct threat, but they affect you all the same.
Try playing as if they didn't exist, they'll eat you.

Theres only so much you can get from barns, eventually you'll have to go to crashsites, outposts etc... and i'd be sure you don't just run through them.

Anyone else getting bad fps/performance issues on the IE1 server? The server doesn't seem to be running right for some reason. Thought it was just me but my mate has the same problem

I went on for about ten minutes just now, seems I'm having the same kind of trouble.

Yeah just tried a UK server and all was grand again, then back to boards and it's just unplayable for me
