    Torpedos.
As in Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Very Fine suds.

    Did you sample the Black?
No, sadly I was there at lunch-time and was heading surfing for the afternoon, so couldn't take the opportunity to sample the other two beers (though I had a taste of the lager, which I though was a bit ordinary).

McHughs had the range from whitewater brewery at 5 for €10 last week, tried them and also Comeragh Challanger. Wasnt blown away by anything from whitewater, enjoyed the Challanger.

Was in Manchester over the weekend and managed to convince the lads to go to the Brewdog bar (they liked it so much that they even went back the next day!). Cool bar with a great vibe. Tried a few of the usual fare that I've had at home and also tried a pint of The Hunter Foundation Pale Ale. Confusingly their site says it's 5.5%, with the mocked up label saying 7.7%, and the chalk board on the day said 5.4% That aside, it's a nice light hoppy pale ale. Got a bottle of Stone Brewing Ruination too. Not for the faint hearted, pretty full on, but lovely. Certainly not a session beer though.

Also managed to try a pint of cask Thwaites Lancaster Bomber in one of the many other bars that we frequented over the weekend.

Greta stuff. Any other bar recommendations? Headed over in a few weeks.

I think that might be "?.?%"

Tbh, a lot of the bars I went to were just the usual lads on tour places, but Brewdog obviously was brilliant, they do lovely pizzas (didn't try the burgers but they looked great). I got the Thwaites in a place called The Brunswick, on the main street just up from Piccadily Station. They had 3 cask engines, Bomber, Hobgoblin and something else I can't remember.....possibly John Smiths?

We were also in a place called Trof up in the Northern Quarter which was a cool enough place, I was drinking Brooklyn, but that part of the night was a bit hazy.

Had a great weekend in North Dakota and got to taste a good few beers but I lost my piece of paper which I had all the info. on.

    So from memory I had:

Fargo Wood Chipper IPA : A nice bitterness to it but also my first beer so might have been a reason to think it was bitter.

Surly Brewing Company IPA (Cant remember which IPA) was really nice.

Fulton beer Sweet Child Of Vine : Very light tasting beer almost reminded me of a bitter.

Summit Extra Pale Ale : Smelled like a forest and tasted nice and hoppy. I think it was my favourite out of all.

I think I've mentioned some of these to you in a previous post, but you could easily spend an evening enjoying quality beer by working your way along Thomas St in the Northern Quarter:

Trof Not bad for a late night venue, usually has some good tunes plus a reasonable selection of women if the beer isn't holding your attention.

    Marble

Just off Thomas St is Common (Usually have a Magic Rock guest on draft)

And for some serious beer tasting, at the end of Thomas St Port Street Beer House (hoping to try the Summer Wine Kopikat imperial stout next time I get a chance to visit)

Also worth a look for some daytime refreshments are Cask on Liverpool Rd (mainly Belgian & German fare) and Knott Bar around the corner on Deansgate (they had a few Nogne O choices last time I was there).

And obviously any of the multitude of more traditional pubs will always have a few local and national ales available on cask.

I had those two beer before xmas, when I was in Minnesota (think they're both Minnesotan Breweries). The Surly Furious was my favourite. I only wish I had thought to bring some cans home (they seem to prefer cans to bottles). A shared pitcher of the stuff in a bar, came to the princely sum of $11.

Yeah I think it was around $6 for a pint . It was the dearest beer I had in Fargo.
The cheapest being $2.45 a pint in a small little bar. Cheapest beer I've had in a bar in the US so far which also had a blackjack table which I found unusual.

That's one that I really wanted to try but it would've been a hard sell to the lads. Was surprised that they liked Brewdog so much that they wanted to go back.

Brewdog had the full range, mad expensive though.

Just finished a bottle of Erdinger's Urweisse, good stuff, especially since it's warm here in Berlin

Had a Brewdog Dogma tonight. Interesting is probably the best description!

Had a magic hat 9 last night and found it quite disappointing. Had it before and liked it, very citrusy and refreshing but this one was seriously lacking.
Switched to unertyl ursud which is a new favourite of mine, dark and delicious but light enough to quench a thirst.
Finished with montieths radler bier, a 5% lemonade from new Zealand for the alco pop generation and a pint of hop head that gave me serious heart burn!
Strange night. Think I'll stick to the home brew tonight!

I had some magic hat in the Bierhaus last night, I liked it, missed it since I was in the states some years back.

Switched to the Sierra Nevada draft and the Dungarvan brewary challenger.

I found the Sierra Nevada with a bit more flavour than I have come to expect from it out of the bottle.
The Dungarvan challenger was a nice refreshing bitter. Definitely not for the casual drinker, but if you've spent some time in Britain and had a taste for Bitter over there you should def try it.

Definitely worth a visit, though the place was sadly empty on a Saturday afternoon. A great big plate of locally smoked fish (Salmon, Trout and Mackerel) helped to wash down the beer. :)

IF the fast ferry service from the docks in Galway to Ballyvaughn resumes before the end of the summer as planned I'll tip across and up the hill to Lisdonvarna for lunch :)

    Did you buy Clothworthy Dobbin?

    That stuff is magic.

Even with all the great reviews, I wasn't a big fan myself. Each to their own I suppose.

Indeed. Though that said I have had a couple of dodgy bottles of Clotworthy over the years: oxidised, and overcarbonated. Heartbreaking, because I think it's a classic when in good condition.

I found it grew on me.
Wasn't too keen on it at first but now absolutely love it.

Had O'Hara's smoked Ale in the Brew Dock last night. Thought it was gorgeous

Just had a bottle of Hobgoblin, quite nice. Long live 5 for 10 in Tesco!

    Today's plunder from the offie:

    Kostritzer black lager
    Redwillow chocolate stout
    Thornbridge Raven BIPA
And a Cantillon Rosé de Gambrinus...intriguing as this will be my first taste of a good lambic.

Just finished off a Little Creatures Pale Ale, very nice indeed.

Up next is Ireland's most recent addition to bottled Irish craft beer, Rebel Red.

I Hardcore You a colab' beer from Mikkeller and BrewDog.

It's an IIPA (Imperial IPA) Strong beer 9.5%

Very strong hoppy flavour, more to the fruity side at first taste, orange peel, pine and very bitter. A great beer, only opened it a few minutes ago, so far so good. It's a solid 10 for me at the moment.
