Breckenridge Lucky U IPA - a nice IPA with a strong hop finish. Really liked this as it was the only non sweet beer at the bar.

On the cider this week, drinking Old Rosie Scrumpy Cider...5 for 10 euro at tesco and at over 7% it packs a punch...Beautiful stuff...most Westons ciders are :D

Night before last I had a bottle of Brooklyn Chocolate Stout. Wow! Blew me away. Fantastic stout. Thick syrupy, malty goodness. Wonderful. It was only afterwards that I read the ABV. Shocker. Thankfully it's heavy enough that it's a sipper.

Last night: Delirium Red. Doesn't have the same depth as Delirium Tremens, but still a really enjoyable beer. The kind of beer you can only have one of, and not preceded or followed by any other beers, as it's very sweet and tart. I'm developing a taste for these cherry beers. It doesn't rate very highly on BeerAdvocate or ratebeer, but it suited the mood (while I was bottling my homebrew).

watched the match in The Black Sheep before taking a bus home to Galway and supped a few beers.

Started with a Jaipur followed by a Punk IPA then a Seirra Nevada Pale Ale and rounded off with a Kippling.

The Kippling + Jaipur were only €5.50 each, for a large bottle in a Dublin bar, that's serious value. They are both over €7 in Salt House!

A Windjammer to mark the end of the week in Farringtons. Then 1st trip to Croker of the year on Sunday hopefully I can convince friends to make it an inaugural trip to the new Kavanaghs too, dying to try a Knockmealdown porter on tap.

I went to 'Innis & Gunn' in Edinburgh yesterday evening and had their 'Rum Finish' ale. It was really quite an experience - I'd never had anything remotely like it. It was spicy, sweet, caramel-like with 7.4% ABV. I really enjoyed it but had to leave some behind because I was in a hurry and simply could not drink it fast enough. Their original ale, I feel, is overpriced and not very remarkable but this really impressed me!

Ooo, that's interesting. What is there to see? I've always assumed "Innis & Gunn" was just a marketing office and warehouse.

Going to head here over the weekend. I have no idea what to have. Any stand-out beers there for anyone?

Oooh the un-named mod deleted his own post because he was digging himself into a hole. What a douche, couldn't let our normal happy conversation go unhindered. Anyway, just drank Tactual Nuclear Penguin (some beer, straight out you taste a lot of dark fruits, prunes etc.. a lot nicer than i would have expected from a beer at 32%)

I had a bottle of Stonewell cider last night. Pricey at 3.99, but very good nonetheless. I've got a bottle of brooklyn local no.2 for tonight. Had it before in the bierhaus, picked up a bottle in carry out for a tenner :D

It wasn't actually that exciting. I expected to see some indication of how they produce the beer, even just for show, but it was just like any other trendy tied house, really - lots of Innis & Gunn bottles and some guest beers, with bourgeoisified pub food and leather couches.

That would be because they don't :D It's contract brewed. Used to be at Belhaven, though I've heard it's the Tennant's brewery in Glasgow making it now.

Trying a bottle or two of that desperado's stuff tonight. Have some Budvar in case it's awful.

I would barely class desperado as beer.

Had some Comeragh Challenger last night - thought it was very nice.
Just finished a bottle of 5am Saint.
Was convinced in O'Briens this afternoon to try some Doppel Hirsch and bought a bottle as a result. Anyone any opinions on it?
I thought the sample I had was lovely.

Friend suggested having a bottle, but I'm not optimistic. ;)

    Going to be drinking

    Magic Hat #9
    Tor Ol IPA
    Joker IPA

Am in the mood to try some different beers.

Really did not enjoy Comeragh Challenger, I dunno if there was something wrong with the bottle, but there was zero taste/smell off it.

I didn't like the challenger either. Mine did have a taste but not one that I liked.

Was in Messrs tonight for the match. I was drinking their seasonal Olympic Gold. It's a golden ale and it was really good. Only €4 a pint too.

Had a Meantime Chocolate tonight. Nice chocolate taste with a hint of caramel. Tasty but I wouldn't be pushed to go back for more.

I'm having a little tasting session in Cork's Bierhaus. Started with St. Peter's The Saints whiskey beer, which was quite delicious, if you like whiskey, at least. I went on to try 400 Pound Monkey IPA from Left Hand Brewing co. And that was mild, but very flavoursome. After that I tried their Sawtooth Ale, which was more flavour and more got bitterness, and I loved it. I'm about to try the Flying Dog Doggy Style IPA at the recommendation of the delightful Brazilian lady behind the bar. She hasn't been wrong so far today...

Edit: Yeah, that's a winner. Who could resist such a fancy bottle label, such a suggestive name, or a quote from Hunter S. Thompson? Also the beer is damn tasty.

Had a Burren Red at the Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna at the weekend. Very tasty it was too. A nice smokey hoppy red ale that had me wishing it wasn't lunch-time. Great to see pubs setting up their own local Breweries too.

That place has been there a while and I still haven't been able to get out there!

Definitely worth a visit, though the place was sadly empty on a Saturday afternoon. A great big plate of locally smoked fish (Salmon, Trout and Mackerel) helped to wash down the beer. :)
