Slightly disappointed that he didn't end up at a bigger team/league tbh. I know PSG have money and may very well be a force to be reckoned with in the CL next year, but I would of loved to see him in the PL or the Spanish League.

He should of signed for Liverpool :p

How are PSG going to cope with the FFP rules?

Good question. You could see some of Europe's big clubs standing up to UEFA.
Not so sure if PSG are big enough to do that.

PSG simply have to win Ligue1 this year. Great signing in Lavezzi.

Said it a few times now in this thread, but I'll say it once more since it's official, fantastic business by PSG.

It'll be fascinating to see their starting XI come the start of the season, and namely will it be Nene or Menez alongside Lavezzi and Pastore.

Very good signing. Will certainly score goals at that level.

Newcastle supposedly agree €8 million fee with Twente for Douglas

Seems a good player, but is apparently very temperamental and likely to do something silly in games like Barton etc.

I read this morning that there is lots of red tape involved, from the Chronicle:
NEWCASTLE UNITED'S bid for FC Twente star Douglas has been complicated by a red tape issue – which could see the defender start the season in Holland.

The Chronicle understands that the 6ft 4in lynchpin’s proposed move to the Premier League may now be put on hold.

The Brazilian-born star was granted Dutch citizenship last November after revealing ambitions to play for Holland.

But despite receiving a certificate from the mayor of Enschede confirming his status as an adopted Dutchman, strict FIFA rules mean that any players that have been granted a new nationality must live in the country they wish to represent for five years.

And it means that Douglas must wait until the end of August before he becomes eligible to play for Holland.

He now faces a dilemma, knowing that by switching to Newcastle or anywhere else before the end of next month will see his hopes of pulling on an orange shirt evaporate.

Reports over the weekend claimed that a £5m fee had been agreed by Newcastle and the Dutch side, following meetings between chiefs from both clubs, but the Magpies weren’t able to confirm any capture today.

Even if Newcastle did complete the transfer for the defender he would end his international future with Holland by appearing in a black and white shirt before the fifth anniversary of his Dutch residence.

Douglas and the Dutch FA are well aware of the situation and the likelihood for the defender is he resumes pre-season training with FC Twente.

Centre half and right back are the two main positions that Newcastle need to strengthen this summer IMO, along with a striker if Ba leaves.

If they do get Douglas and Debuchy in (as reported) and don't sell anyone else then they really are miles ahead of the chasing back and the likes of Everton, Sunderland, Fulham, Villa, etc can forget about getting anywhere near them for the next few seasons at the very least.

They'll easily finish as the ''best of the rest'' next season anyway IMO, although I guess we don't know how Europe will affect them.

Just heard there may not be as much substance to this story yet.

Dont rule out a move to another German club like Schalke.
Apparently he wants to return to Germany for family reasons.

yes shalke are in the frame, and so are Milan and Roma.I'm fairly certain he'll head back to Germany, to help his wife and her career.

Never denied. Klaus-Michael Kühne (a fan) said he wants VdV back and would be willing to finance the deal, but that the club have shown no interest in his proposal. Some journalists took that to mean the club have no interest in VdV. Arnesen came out and said that nothing could be ruled out.

Rasmus Elm is still the no.1 target for the creative midfielder Arnesen is after imo.

Kess may be interested to hear that Harmeet Singh has supposedly agreed a move to Feyenoord.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

The thing about vdV is that he doesn't seem able for 90 minutes, and every 2/3 months he seems to suffer some sort of muscle injury, normally to his hamstring or calf. I don't know why he has such poor fitness (in comparison to other footballers) but I have a feeling it may have something to do with the controversial Dutch physio Dick Van Toorn who van der Vaart visits so often His methods have an abnormally quick recovery time but the long term effect are debated. I wish him all the best anyways if he does go, he was nothing short of phenomenol for us, if he does stay, then all the better for us.

Good move for him, and one that will allow him to continue to develop in a better league.

    Good Memory G.K :)

Di Marzio(Sky Sports): Maicon is close to joining Chelsea for 8M euros. Negotiations between Inter and Chelsea at a very advanced stage

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭G.K.

8m euro is a decent price. As long as the wages aren't massive I think it could be a shrewd move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭dor83

He is on about €9m per year before tax with Inter so I'd imagine he'll be getting a decent amount there too. I think Inter are doing well out of it, getting rid of an old player, who has been under performing for the past 2 years and is on high wages.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

If Chelsea end up paying him close to what he earns now it will be a pretty poor deal for them imo, unless its for the free transfer that had been rumoured before, if they are paying 8 million for him and paying him a salary of 7+ million a year thats a pretty poor deal imo.

It will cost them a basic 22million for him altogether then, excluding signing fees and other bonuses!

He has not been performing near his 2009 level, they will not get anything back for him, there are surely better options out there :)

Sad to see Lavezzi leave Napoli, genuinely annoys me when class players leave Serie A and not being replaced with similar quality. PSG should be entertaining to watch next season though. Haven't seen nearly enough of them over the last season as it involves watching Ligue 1 but at least we'll see them regularly in the CL now.

I really hope Milan don't sign him.
I doubt they are even interested, he's 29 and would want big wages and wouldn't be cheap, on top of that, he's not Allegri's type of player at all, he's exactly the type of player Milan don't need.

What do you mean exactly? I have never heard anything negative about him personality wise or anything like that?
