I don't know, to be honest. I'm not sure how their youth system is in comparison to Barça's. But yeah, he's one of the signings that's needed for the B team next season. The majority of fans following the team seem happy with him.

He is a product of Espanyols youth team (City signed him from them) so I guess some Barca fans may have seen him in his youth already

Birmingham City yesterday turned down a £6 million bid from Southampton for keeper Jack Butland.

It is a bit of a weird situation because 6 million might seem a lot for a keeper who has yet to play for Birmingham and whose only league experience is in League Two. However he has flown through the ranks of the England teams eventually going on to make the senior squad for the Euros, and is most likely going to be the keeper for team GB in the Olympics. He is seen as a long term challenger to Joe Hart for the England jersey and has been watched by nearly all the top teams in the PL.

So it is kind of understandable why Birmingham are looking for such a high fee in excess of 10 million for him despite his relative inexperience.

His timing is bad to arrive on the scene - Man U, Man City and Arsenal all have good young keepers in place. Liverpool and Chelsea have experienced keepers with plenty of years left. Maybe Spurs are the only top team who need to address that position?

Think he needs to prove himself a little bit more before one of the big clubs will bring him in. Englands 4th choice keeper, if he does well in the Championship this year then I imagine Spurs could easily swoop, Friedel is quite old and Gomes/Cudicini are not great!

Barcelona have agreed a fee with Valencia over the sale of Jordi Alba. €14m

    :(

Spanish football is so frustrating so often.
Imagine if every Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool player was almost certainly set to join United or City as soon as they broke into the national side... Hard to see how any team will ever catch Barca or Real.

The gap between Barca/Real Madrid & Valencia is much more then the gap between City/Utd & Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool.

Spain's top two are miles ahead of the rest in terms of finances and marketability in comparison to the English sides you mentioned.

Timing of it is somewhat odd. Very good signing for Barca of course.

If Malaga's owners are totally in it for the long haul, maybe in 5-10 years (if not sooner) they'll be able to fully go head to head with Barca and Real on a consistent basis. Been quietly impressed with the majority of their purchases since the new owners came in.

I take it you are under the mass delusion that City and Utd are better and more desirable than the EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS and the other 2 clubs?! :p

I know you're probably just messing, but to clarify I'm not disparaging the clubs outside this season's English top two, I'm just making a point about how the top two in Spain hoover up any up-and-coming Spanish stars, thanks to both their prestige and their unfair financial muscle. It makes it impossible for the second-tier clubs to compete for the title like the other English clubs can.

(With Malaga, something weird seems to be going on there. A lot of the players seemingly aren't being paid on time, and even Santi Cazorla hasn't been paid for yet. I know Valencia had issues over the payment for Isco too.)

I am and its certainly not a delusion. You can fluke your way through a few cup games, but league tables don't lie

Apparently we've sigend Curtis Good from Melbourne. $600,000 Australian dollars believed to be the fee.

They still owe HSV for Joris Mathijsen. The €2.5m was supposed to be paid over three installments but the cub have not even received one.

We reported them to UEFA a few months ago.

Deal done. Best of luck to him. He scored some absolute crackers in his 4 years at HSV that I wont forget.

Gio Dos Santos is leaving Spurs. Looked great in his early days.

Gladbach sign Twente's Luuk de Jong on a four-year deal, according to the Express. Reportedly about €11m fee.

A NUFC mate of mine was saying earlier they had reps meeting with Twente to discuss a deal for De Jong today
While I wished Dortmund were in for him like early reports were suggesting, he is exactly the player Gladbach need.

4 years at Spurs and 2 league starts. A different move and he could be a household name. Sevilla and At Madrid apparantly interested.

Aye, either he wasn't fancied by management there or he didn't fit the system, which he doesn't, unless you stick him on the left a 442 wont suit and even then it wont allow him to show his ability.

Shocking how he never got a look in, even in times of Spurs injury crisis.

It had to be done, he hasn't been up to it since the treble and is too slow. Hopefully Forlan will be next, and I wouldn't mind if Stankovic followed too. Selling Maicon would be good too.

Agreed about Lucio and Stankovic. I thought Fenerbahce were in negotiations with Lucio, bit surprised that his contract was terminated.

It's very clear from Inter management, they want to offload high earning old players, which is a good thing as their wage bill is just ridiculous.

Its not like they are radically changing their policy though, Palacio has been brought in and he is 30.

Fenerbache were trying to buy him but he wouldn't leave without being paid off by Inter, I'm guessing that they let him go on a free so that he can get extra from them as they won't have to pay for him. They were only going to pay about €1m anyway.

Yeah but he is on a lot less than the likes of Forlan, Lucio and Stankovic so it will be reducing the wage bill if we can get rid of Forlan. Chivu has had his wages halved too, there has been a lot of talk of trying to get rid of Julio Cesar and Maicon too, and bringing in Handanovic and another full back which would aslo reduce the wage bill by quite a lot. The problem isn't just that the players are old, it is that they were given big, long contracts after the treble and are costing too much now, they would be decent squad players if their wages weren't so high.
