Balkestein (Gladbach head scout): "I expect LDJ to join BVB, succeeding Lewandowski. He's their No1 candidate & they have lots to spend."

I'd be very pleased if we get him. I know we've been linked with him in recent times, likewise 'gladbach.

    Official Milan Statement from ACMilan.com

"Silvio Berlusconi, our president, has decided: "Thiago Silva is staying at Milan." An important decision taken in difficult times and faced with a unique economic proposal. But the decision is always, always with love and openness of mind forever.

Thiago Silva is not simply a champion who tackles and wins back the ball, who, with his team-mates, wins, draws or loses the match. Thiago Silva himself embodies the class and style of Milan, the charisma of a club that loves the game but also the result and behaviour. And so his stay with the Rossoneri, decided by President Berlusconi, preserves the Milan identity.

    Good night to all Milanisti.

And good night from all Milanisti, to the Rossonero, the Rossonero more than any: Silvio Berlusconi."

Just so, ya know, it's official and all.

Gazzetta Dello Sport say Chelsea will officially launch the 25mill bid for Stevan Jovetic today

I dunno Ade, they do have room for him. They only have Torres, Lukaka and Sturridge as real strikers, with Mata, Marin, Hazard & Malouda giving them width and attack from midfield. They may end up with Jovetic behind Torres, with Hazard and Mata either side of 2 from Ramires, Lampard, Mikel, Romeu and Essien...a slightly scary prospect.

So what's happening with Tevez? I presume he's not going to stay, but it's been quiet, will one of the Italian clubs sell to buy him? Maybe Napoli could try it on? He could follow in Diego M's footsteps...

Swap deal with Cavani, its the only way i can see any of them move with the money that would be needed to sign either.

What about if Hulk comes in? Someone who while is better as a wing forward can lead the line and play as a second striker....

Absolute madness if they get both in.

For me, Jovetic will always be a no.10. A second striker/central attacking midfielder. That is his position, his best position. It's arguably already overloaded as it is now. It's Mata's best position, Hazard's best position, Marin could play there, Lampard too if need be and again, Hulk can play there. I reckon Sturridge can also do a job if need be. I'm sure Chelsea fans won't mind signing him, they need to strengthen elsewhere assuming Hulk is a done deal.

Speaking about Chelsea, some French TV station saying Lille want Kalou.
So long as he doesn't end up at Liverpool I'm happy.

Sky Italia saying Roma close to signing German midfielder Alexander Merkel from Genoa as well. Love to hear Seaneh's thoughts on Merkel. Had high hopes for him a few seasons ago.

Barcelona poaching youth players from Valencia. They hardly need to with the youth setup they already have, but I suppose the continuance of the unfair Spanish duopoly is the most important thing.

(article is in Spanish, but if you've Chrome the translation is pretty understandable)

Is that not outrageously overpriced for Jovetic?

You've convinced me, they don't need him. We'll have at Anfield so! :D

Well considering Andy Carroll cost 35 million, not really.

    :(

Rafa wanted to sign him a few years ago... before the lad destroyed us at the Stadio Artemio Franchi back in 09. I'd love us to still sign him but if we are signing Sigurdsson, not much point to signing Jovetic.

Said in the Del Piero thread a while back. IMHO if Juve want a replacement for Delps, should look at him.

Michael Owen being linked with Stoke. Seems a bit of a strange one, not sure he would be suited to that style of play but he could work well off Crouch. Stoke could offer him a good wage as well so that could be an incentive for him to join them.

Lewandowski: ""I do not care what my agent is doing. I am under contract with Borussia Dortmund."

Brilliant. I wish more footballers were as blunt.

He'll probably die in their training matches seen how fragile he is

At 32 and with and with the injuries he's had Owen won't be taking too much down each week. Maybe a pay per play type contract?

He's also linked with Everton. Could do a job for Villa I reckon?

    What was the context there?

Also, why does he employ this guy as his agent!?

He didnt say anything until after the Dortmund CEO came out and said he was not going to be sold anway :)

Merkel is a very good young player, Milan recalled him form co-ownership this season but he got injured in his second game and missed the rest of the season, he'd played most of Genoa's games up until then and had a great season.

At the end of the Season Milan traded their 50% of Merkel's contract for Genoa's 50% of El Shaarawy's contract in a straight swap. The fact that Genoa were willing to trade half of El Shaarawy's rights says a lot, as he is, IMHO, THE outstanding Italian young player right now.

I would honestly expect Merkel to be a German regular in the next few years, he's a very, very, very good 19 year old!

Milan, El Shaarawy is a fantastic prospect. I fully expect him to be one of the best players in the world in the next few years. Pace, skill, creativity and that little something "special" where he can just do the unexpected.

Was Serie B player of the season when he had barely turned 18 last year. He's a special, special young man.

It's worked out now that El Shaarawy is 100% a Milan player and Merkel is 100% a Genoa player.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Merkel back at Milan if he performs well next season.

IMO Genoa got the better deal becuase of the €5+Million Milan paid on top of the original 50% acquisition

The €5m was for the original 50% of his contract.

Also, Milan saved money on Boateng by giving Genoa 50% of Merkel as well, there were a few other players involved too.

It's all swings and round abouts with Miland and Genoa.

I don't think Merkel will be back at Milan next summer tbh, I'd love if he was but, realistically, I wouldn't be surprised if he went the way of Davide Astori and Milan just let him go...

Which, obviously, in the case of Astori, was a mistake!

I've an Inter supporting mate so seen a good bit of Serie A in the year gone by. He's one of those exciting players who is capable of doing something different - great prospect. I just didnt know much about Merkel

Apparently, he said it well before Watzke's statement to a local radio station in Dortmund. But never mind, it's only good, that he stays with Borussia Dortmund
