Did I hear it right - Mike coming out with a thinly veiled insult to Pat by saying something like all Irish current affairs programmes are fifth rate??

Ya he did say that. I don't think it reflected well on him tbh, just seemed petty. RTE may do a lot of things poorly but Current Affairs has always been their trump card.

You didn't hear it quite right if you thought it was thinly veiled.

I also thought it was quite blatant, and a little odd for him to say. RTÉ's current affairs is quite good in my opinion (the Prime Time Investigates fiasco notwithstanding). MM did a series of 6 interviews a few months ago (Bertie and David MacWilliams being amongst the interviewees) which could be deemed current affairs. Again, an odd thing for MM to say.

I personally think the whole "Ireland's favourite painting" is a complete waste of money (just my opinion) but having a regular segment about it on the PK show these last few weeks is an egregious waste of airtime. Using a non-visual medium to describe a visual medium is utterly pointless.

Yeah I heard that "give the nazi their jews"... REALLY poor choice of words.. inasmuch as it's hugely politically incorrect to admire anything that the Nazis did anyway.

Pat really putting Pierce through the wringer this morning .... notwithstanding the lovely Donegal accent Pierce is on the back foot & sounding very pressured

Pat is in flying form this morning and is kicking Pearse Doherty's arse on taxation. Pearse came in waffling about "other ways to raise revenue" and Pat started throwing facts and figures at him. Pat is dissecting Sinn Fein's economic policies with detailed %s and £s and Pearse is stumbling and stuttering. It's great radio!

This is great stuff from Pat... Showing Sinn Finn up for the hypocrites that they are...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,438 ✭✭✭touts

Now Pat's whalloping him on the Fiscal Treaty. It's a car crash for Pearse :-)

They must have given Pat full caffine instead of decaf this morning. I'd say anyone sitting outside waiting to come on later is shifting nervously in their seat.

Update: It's Noonan next for a spanking. This should be an interesting fight.

Pearse got way more than he expected this morning .... Pat went from him forensically with the facts as only Pat can do. Excellent Public Service Broadcasting :D

"I used to love looking in to people's gardens when I was out running"..

Maybe that's where pat's compulsion for coveting other people's land began?

"Pat Kenny in Pervert Peeping Tom Admission" headline in the Daily Mail tomorrow so....;)

I was surprised how Mike Murphy went on... and on... and on.... He's been on RTE TV and radio for 30 years, would he not go away and give us a break?

I do agree with him that there's too much current affairs on TV and radio.

Just listening to this morning's show now. Jesus, Pat was in flying form! It was the type of well-researched, intelligent, passionate, and engaging interview with Doherty that would almost make me be in favour of public service broadcasting.

Just a shame he barely interrupted Noonan, later on.

I'm sure when its the turn of the prosecuting attorney they will "do a job" on the accused.

In the mean time I can't imagine how Michaela's family must feel regarding the angles taken by the defense prosecution.
Obviously they are just doing their job, but from what Tommy Gorman was articulating it seems a bit far-fetched.

arrggghhhhh I cant STAND her accent.. She sounds like a really bad actor doing an American accent, really over the top..

I found Pat's belittling of the primitive justice system in Mauritius a little bit much as well, given the fiasco that is going on here with the warrants.. I think the only thing that we can conclude is that there is little chance of getting justice in either country.

    Some neck on Micheal Martin.

My God Claire Daly is embarrassing... I'd say the average secondary school student has more of a grasp of economics than she has..

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,425 ✭✭✭telekon

F*ckin hell, I'm actually agreeing with Micheal Martin. :(

I can taste the sick in my mouth...

Caroline Simons approach just rubs people up the wrong way. All shouting and preaching.

It is kind of funny seeing both FG and FF on the same side alright.. I was kind of visualizing Lucinda having Michéal on a leash in the studio, as she didnt need to do any of the barking herself...

Clare Daly doesnt believe that the people in Greece were living beyond their means.. (though to be fair to her, she may have thought Pat was talking about the musical)..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭spank_inferno

Who is this Claire Daly person?

And more importantly what primary school has to answer for her stunningly poor grasp of facts

If there are any undecideds listening to this, I think Ms Daly has secured victory for the "Yes" side.

(which btw as a "No" voter, saddens me)

Public pay being defended. Now there's a surprise.

Michael Martin may be a fianna failure but at least he isn't hiding behind Lucinda's skirts. Enda could learn from him on that one.

Claire Daly is coming across as the typical loud mouth socialist. Empty words playing to the crowd. God help us if she ever gets into power. When you listen her you understand why anywhere socialism has come to power it only stayed longer than a couple of years at the point of a gun. Absolutely clueless but utterly convinced of her ideology and aggressive in defending it.
