My mam use to have one, apart from her current Mazda 6, that was probably her favourite car.

It had sorry end when a mechanic destroyed one of the cylinders though, she was properly devastated.

This springs to mind, I still have my suspicions to this day!!!

Lads you do know that if you pay your tax for a year it's a lot cheaper than doing it every 6 or 3 months???

I really don't see the point in renewing it any number of times than once a year unless you are thinking about selling it.

Even if you do want to sell it you can claim back the tax, can't you?

I'll be honest I was thinking of just doing the 6 months, but I had the cash set aside for the car, so I spent it on tax. I always had a budget of 4, so I had plenty of change left over after buying. Now who wants to pay for my petrol???

It may be cheaper but paying the guts of €1k in one lump sum can be too much to take for some people.

Yeah I think so, but you'd obviously have to do that before you sell it or advertise it.

I see your point but it would be a better idea to budget for it and save the money!

What's the point in paying out even more over a year if it can be too much once a year?

For some it can be the chicken and the egg situation, have to save up the tax and it falls due before you have the money, so you tax it for 3 months and after that you still dont have it saved etc etc.
I am driving 8 years and I have never taxed it for more than 3 months at a time. No real reason, Id rather spend it on something else most times though. I would very rarely have €660 sitting there doing nothing when the renemwal comes.

Only if the car is written off or scrapped can the tax be reclaimed

I like the sound but not the whole enclosed space issue, hence the reason I drive fast to get out of said tunnel :D

€46 all in to hire the compressor, inch airgun and hopefully the socket for he job... Just for one miserable bolt!!! I always regret not buying an inch airgun when I had the money :(

    Me too :D

Here's a video I took driving through Switzerland on the way to Italy. Not particularly exciting noise-wise as I was in a hire car, but the you never knew what view awaited you at the other side. Highly recommend it if you've a few days to spare! (feel free to skip the first 1min 20seconds or so, the Swiss love their tunnels!)

    One car you don't need a tunnel for - RX8 :D

BTW jen, that's some nice undertaking you did in that video :pac:

Up north you won't get anything back from insurance but you can claim back a fair bit of the tax if you declare a car off the road.

It is a bit optimistic but it's clean, has a full service history, taxed and NCT'd up till '14 along with new tyres.

And yeah, I also hate it when people don't include stuff like that in the sale, makes no sense to me unless you planning on having another similar branded car/make that the Nav will fit.
